Batman R.I.P.

hmm, the preview looks interesting. it SEEMS things are being moved foward, and i got more information about what's going on from those pages than the last 3 issues together. Batman is delusional. Bat-Mite is batman talking to himself. The gargoyles are Batman talking to himself. His mind is scattered around the city and he's remembering who he is by what he sees.

I just hope from where that preview ends, it doesn't jump around and be all confusing.

i have to ask- is that whole isolation chamber thing they keep talking about new, or is that something else from the Silver Age that someone like me wouldn't know about?

^ Not the silver age. you should know about it if you'd read the issues right before RIP as well as RIP part 1, it's been mentioned a few times. The Thogal mediation happened recently, Dr.Hurts experiment was while Dick Grayson as still Robin

I hope this is not the much talked about new Costume hes suppose to be getting???

Tony Daniels and at one point Alex Ross were designing a *new* suit. That one is already decades old.

I've been thinking a lot about the isolation tank experiment and the idea that Batman was trying to think like the Joker. In Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum the Joker's persona is described as a form of "super sanity" in which he has no personality of his own and can recreate himself to cope with the conditions of the world around him.

I'm just wondering if this is what's happening with Batman?

Yeah I wondered this too. Also as CrimsonMist mentioned, Batman isn't as crazy as he seems here. He's still processing information about the city and his surroundings, just in a very um....imaginative way.

Morrison better make the end worth something because I know I don't speak just for myself when I say I have been greatly disappointed.

Same here. If Bruce is killed I'm not ever picking up a batman comic
(not counting Detective Comics...hopefully) ever again until some writer ***** all over Morrison say the whole last 15-20 issues were a dream.

gotta wonder if this isnt what didio's been screaming about...
what if dick takes over as bats and That's who gets snatched up by the alpha lantern chick w/o a nose, thus fulfilling didiot's stated mission to kill dick, which after the events of FC, when the nevermind...he was in that big group shot, along with tim (or there's a nightwing and robin there)- so what if it's True that jason takes over and Thats who gets snatched up, thus fulfilling ALL of OUR wishes to see jason removed from the board permanently, since GM Did say whoever That batdude was, we aint seein Him again? and That batdude getting snatched up would cause bruce to throw the cape and tights back on out of guilt or what have you, losin the boy twice like roland the damn gunslinger...or dick replaces jason as bats first, fails, and That brings bruce back around the time frame everybody's discussing
idk, what do y'all think? maybe i'm just up 2 late-

well ive been reading every issue and yes i've seen it mentioned many times but i still don't know when it takes place. and if it was recent then theres no way Dick could still be Robin- its been like 20 yrs. that just further shows how confusing Morrison's storytelling is. i didnt have any problem following him on X-Men.

see my only problem with that is wasn't one of the reasons for 52/OYL so that Bruce/Batman can regain his sense of self and become human again? this feels like a 1 step forward, 3 steps back situation.

Didn't Dick Grayson already become Batman once? Hasn't that been explored?

Bah.

Just saw an episode of "the Batman" cartoon that was an example of Batman being supposedly mad. Judging by the outcome of that, I'd say it'd be a good ending to RIP if it were an example of "what doesnt kill Bruce makes him stronger"

I have no clue what amongst this is correct. But the whole R.I.P storyline, its purpose and its potential conclusion make a little more sense to me as a result of reading it.

You'd think after all those years of being exposted to poisons, toxins, knockout gasses...Drugs...And with the crapload of physical, mental, spiritual super kickass ninja training...That he'd be able to overcome this...

Way to write YET ANOTHER lameass Batman story.

I would much prefer All Star Batman and Robin compared to this high class in disguise piece of junk.

What's next? Now that he's been injected with drugs, someone with a weird Batman obsession gets to do him up the bum ala FanFilm? Give me a freakin' break.

I put it clearly in my post; the Thogal mediation happened recently, Dr.Hurts experiment was while Dick Grayson was still Robin. They are two different events. Thogal was during the One Year Later time jump so we never saw it but it's explained in Batman 673.

and batman 676. how is that confusing

Perhaps, the new costume is the one pictured in the Batman Beyond series (I hope) and Tim Drake will take up the mantle of Batman. This could explain how in Superman/Batman #22 & 23, how the man in the Batman Beyond suite is referred to as Tim. I would like to see Batman Beyond somehow tie into Batman R.I.P..:woot:

man, i'm glad y'all are burning up all the brainpower on this because i often feel when i'm reading these detailed debates that i'm totally clueless and simply along for the ride, hoping for a good read that Someday, when this is done, i can pile all the issues up, read em Again in one big throw and Get it- as it is, since i bought the ticket, i'm enjoying the ride-
zur en Arrrrrgh

i'm just glad that there's a new, interesting story out there, it seems that writers always want to redo whats already been done w/ batman, but morrison is carving new paths for the character.

You mean like having him temporarily out of commission while someone we all hate takes over as Batman? :whatever:

Morrison probably has a bet with marvel
"i bet you I can totally **** up Batman and people will still read it"

Right now he is confused and trying to make it worse and worse.

sorry for the double post-
again, does anyone have any idea who might be under the mask when bats gets snatched up by no-nose in FC? and might this be the answer to y'all's desires to see jason whacked for good? a retcon of a retcon, as it were? and only Slightly off-topic, did anyone Else here besides me participate in the phone vote on whether jason lived or died back when? and does anyone else feel gypped? weird thing is i feel gypped even though i voted for him to live (since i liked the thought of a thug robin who questioned authority and presented a big change from his predecessor, the wise-crackin do-gooder all grown up and many years later, they've made my vote come true). now i feel wronged. it's like if they made al gore prez next as an 'oops, let's retcon a mistake' and y'all gonna have to wait 4 more on 'barry o vs. scary old' so we can get everything back in line- i guess this Isn't that off topic since GM's scribbling both bats and fc and it seems nothing's self contained in his world...so either bruce gets snatched up by missing nostril, or somebody else does- question is Who, since that has Some bearing on This story in This thread we're discussing-

I'm waiting for the tpb to read this but I take it it follows after Batman and Son?

Morrison better make the end worth something because I know I don't speak just for myself when I say I have been greatly disappointed.

I personally have loved "Batman R.I.P.". It has made me a fan of Grant Morrison, to the point where I now want to go back and buy the "Batman and Son" TPB, and get the "Black Glove" on hardcover next month, so I can have his whole Batman saga collected.

Tomorrow the new issue comes out and I hope it's easy to follow. I had to go to Wikipedia(please don't make fun of me) after reading the 3 issues at least twice.

As crazy as it sounds in that preview it's actually refreshing to see Batman and Bat-Mite interacting again. I like this storyline and can't wait for this ish it's a very entertaining read to me so far.

these previews that keep coming out every week- do y'all read them? i know folks who do religiously, and i try not to, since as it is, i'm paying $3.00 for 23 pages which go by Fast, and these 4 and 5 page previews account for a big percentage of the whole thing- not to mention ruin the reading flow, & to a degree, spoils surprises (i'm also not a real huge fan of this newish trend of releasing the 1st 5 mins of a movie early either)

i'm not criticizing those who do read the previews, since it's not like i Never have and Never do (my current guideline is Maybe look at a 1st page or 2 of art and even then, just a glance to make sure it's not some random fill in artist & don't read any text- now, that's If i'm planning on buying the issue anyway- if it's something i'm not sure i'm going to buy, then a preview's helpful as it was intended to be-
just curious if i'm the only one giving it this much thought and attempting to avoid spoiling stuff ahead for myself, since i see discussions of material in the previews above...
