Batman R.I.P.

I really hated Joker cutting his tounge. It reminded me of some lame Elie Roth Cabin fever crap.

Morrison is going way too much for shock value in this. Joker getting shot, Joker scarring his face, Alfred getting beat up, Bruce going insane, Jezebel turning out to be Black Glove, (shock value with a touch of cliche) etc etc.

His whole run has been a big letdown.

Though with the end of this issue, it seems like Jezebel Jet is most likely the Black Glove, somebody on the official DC forums had another interesting idea. What if the Black Glove is Darkseid, or Desaad, and the finale of "Batman R.I.P." ends up running right into "Final Crisis"?

thats interesting but morrison said it would be an a list batman villian behind it.and jezebel jet is not even close to being a list

Morrison said a lot of things. He said it would be an etsablished villain from Batman's comic past, and the answers were under our noses. Well, Jezzy fits the later.

This would be sort of interesting, but I don't think it will happen.

I totally agree. I'm all for moving a story forward, but when everything you do hangs on a whole bunch of "Gotcha!" twists, you ultimately fail as a writer. Morrison really needs to take a good look at some other writers like Paul Dini or even back to Steve Englehart and realise what superhero comics (and the Joker too) is truly about.

Funny, I always wanted the career of Batman to end just how it started. No Black Glove, no Plot Device called Jezebel, no Zurr En Harr, just a really important climax with a foe of his (not necessarily the Joker). Barely winning and lucky to be alive, at the end of the story you find out that it is really just an ironic anticlimax (the good kind). In a nearby alley a nameless mugger holds a couple with their son/daughter hostage and Batman is determined to stop from happening what happened to him, he manages to save them (or perhaps not, you choose) but is shot, and the nameless mugger runs away as another like him did so long ago....

Obviously you'd need a good reason or him to stop, so maybe if the parents died and he was paralysed or blah blah, but it would support the idea that the city itself is his true arch nemesis, not some oh-my-goodness-the-black-glove-is-really- character.

I'm sure we all know the Batman that was captured in "Final Crisis" is Bruce Wayne, right? Final Crisis is after Batman R.I.P.

From reading some of the posts I don't think some of you knew/know this.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Morrison confirmed FC Batman is Bruce and that it takes place after RIP. So I guess RIP is not as big a deal as we've been led to believe.

I don't get all the hate for the Joker. I LOVE the way he's been written so far. Batman is stripped down. Bruce Wayne is no longer in the equation right now. The Joker has also stripped himself down. He is no longer an egotistical, witty maniac. This Joker is in his purest form of psychopath. This is unhinged Batman and unhinged Joker.

My only problem with it is that there hasn't been enough of it. Just this one issue.

If I recall correctly, Morrison said RIP leads in to the "final fate" of Batman in FC.

I dislike his Joker though, the look, the over-the-top gory obsession and Sweeney Todd razors. The bullet forehead is annoying, and really, there is no excuse for Joker believing Batman shot him. Joker knows Batman more than most people, and he know for sure that he would never shoot him. Also the tongue cutting was stupid, he would be gagging on his own blood there.

I thought Joker was more angry about Batman doing the whole psychological test on himself to try and understand Joker... which caused the 3 batmen arise and thus, he got shotted due to that.

I haven't read a single issue of RIP and I'm already disappointed in it.

Sigh.

Sounds plausible, but I doubt it sorry, as he distinctly states "And you Shot me!" several times to Bats. I dislike that Morrison's Joker does things for no reason like believing this or cutting his tongue. Joker is always random and of course crazy, but he never does things that are extreme for no purpose.

But that's exactly the point.

Both Batman and The Joker have become unhinged, pure versions of themselves. Bruce Wayne no longer exists and the flashiness of The Joker no longer exists. These are two characters who went through an intense trauma(all that's happened with Bruce due to the Black Glove and Joker getting shot in the face) and subsequently more or less re-invented themselves. They've been stripped down to the core. Batman no longer has traditional morals, taking on something similar to Frank Miller's Batman and The Joker has become pure psychotic, without the wit and ego and acid squirting flowers.

again, as i've stated, my problem is that this relationship and the parallels haven't been examined deep enough for it to sink in. I love this idea, but it's been executed in a so-so manner.

do people forget that joker has been drastically changed prior to this? dont you think people were upset when he went from the original to the lanky, pointy nosed weirdo? things change i might remain this way until another writer deems it time to change him and upset everyone again.

NIGHTWING #151

Written by Peter J. Tomasi; Art by Don Kramer and Jay Leisten; Cover by Georges Jeanty

Nightwing has saved New York City from Two-Face, but that doesn't mean that he's saved himself – or that Two-Face is through with him. Nightwing will be forced to confront the madman in Arkham Asylum then face dire changes to his personal life as he deals with the aftereffects of "Batman R.I.P." and makes the ultimate leap!

Yep. New Batman. Wayne out; Grayson in.

all the bat books say something like that, and i doubt they'd reveal it in nightwing, especially if the outcome isnt seen until the end of FC.

I don't care if things change, but I don't have to like how they changed Joker. I don't mind a really dark disturbing Joker, however when he is slicing his tongue I just kind of feel like he has been watered down to the level of Zsasz

All this talk of an a list villain etc....

Could Jet be Poison Ivy?

Red hair and there were the roses right....

lol could that hoe (garden tool :woot:) even tan?

Well I can't think of who it could be at the moment all I know is that bloodied dead bats also happen to be red and black so...

her being ivy makes sense, since she would be immune to the poison, and could have seduced bruce.

The though had crossed my mind that Jezebel Jet was actually Poison Ivy. However I dismissed the idea of this . Due to the fact Ivy's not as crafty as this Jet Character is.

Which why I was totally shocked when she was revealed to be be Black Glove .

Talk about an unexpected twisted .
