The fake Batman is riding on a bat-bike while Batman and Robin chase him in the bat-mobile in the clear daylight while the bat symbol is on. Lol.

It's not a fake batman it is BATMAN JONES!!!! It is actually his real name!!!!

please don't confuse things. The show was campier, of course. "Camp" means to be intended. They "mocked" the source material, because they felt it was the only way to adapt it.

The comics were actually played straight. So they were not campy, but more absurd.

Bravo-!

Somebody who understands what camp means. :D Most posters think it just means the opposite of 'dark'.

Ease up. the statement agrees with you. I'm well aware of the difference in the show and the comics of the era. Feel free to express your concerns with Miller, he's the one would said it.

Aww - MILLER - so overrated! :o

I'll take the 'parady that is the 60's show over his all star 'parady' any day.

Hes so out of touch and in his own fabricated world he's growing mould!!!

Maybe this will cheer him up!!

I don't know, I'm convinced that 'Batman Returns' is Daniel Waters' and Tim Burton's spoof and superhero and comic books. It has some dramatic stuff, but you can't deny it's often quite funny.

It's truly a one of a kind movie, a real strange beast.

Burton said it best on the dvd, how confused he was at how some people say "It's so much darker than the first movie!" and others say "It's so much lighter than the first movie!" I guess it all has to do with your particular sensibilities.

The movie is certainly more physically cartoonish than Batman, but its sense of humor is so cynical and hard-edged. It's the most bizarre and subversive "superhero movie"/"Hollywood blockbuster" ever. Burton really put one over on Warner, Hollywood, the audiences, everyone. But in a good way! I guess that's why there was such a backlash against it.

Not knocking Bale's Batman, but he turned to Lucious Fox for all his gadgets, Batmobile, and asked him to make an antidote for Crane's toxin.

That's a good point, actually, Sir.

But that was the first film and theres alot to go over after all. Fair dooz, bruv.:yay:

I also hate the generational comparisons when it comes to arguing about these things. The fact is I'm happy to watch any old Hollywood Cheque-Slag in the cowl. I'm a sucker after all. Just like all of us:cwink:

I voted no. Burton had his time in the sun - or in the moonlight rather - and he gave us some good stuff, but for better or for worse it's time to move on.

Would love for Burton and Keaton to finish their trilogy. Either with a follow up to Returns or a Dark Knight Returns movie.

There's alot of talk that Keaton may be considered for the role of Batman in the new JLA project. Kevin Smith has even said Keaton would still make the best Batman and I agree. Whether that actually comes to pass is another topic entirely, but I think the buzz over the idea certainly cements Keaton's place in Batman lore as the best in the franchise to date. I love him. I believe he has done the best job of bringing both Bruce Wayne and Batman to life. His acting reaches another level entirely when he puts the cowl on. Keaton understands there is a kind of psychosis going on when he puts on that cowl and you can see it in his eyes and his reactions. Where other actors have let the costume do the acting, Keaton allowed the costume to enhance the acting he still had going on underneath the mask. I think that is why people continue to point back to "Returns" as the definitive installment. When you watch it, you begin to understand there is very little difference between his psychosis and those of his enemies. The motivation is not necessarily balanced on a morale code so much as an emotional measure. I think both Keaton/Burton films are by far the very best.

is the OP kidding? batman returns was a pretty dark film. yeah, its all open to interpretation, there were even times where i think burton said he felt Returns was lighter then B89, but i think many, me included, just felt it was very dark. i liked the dakrness though, it fits the material.

I still think Burton and Keaton captured the psychology of the batman/wayne character like no other director did since. listen to the audio commentary from Burton on the B89/Returns special edition DVD it explains why he chose Keaton and almost any other questions you might ave on his mindset when he directed his movies especially fun to hear are his fear of jack palnce when he filmed his scenes!.

My love for Batman Returns surpasses many because of the simple reason of Catwoman. The way she was portrayed in the film made me love the name Selina as in Selina Kyle as we all know. My love for the name was filed away for a long time in hopes to when I get married and have kids, the girl would be named Selina. In 2004 I was married and Selina was born in 2005.

The other reason why the movie is the best is two simple words: Danny Elfman.

His score is the best I've heard out of him and it is so powerful too especially the Selina insanity scene with throwing the milk, shoving dolls in the food disposal and creating the costume. Yes, Batman'89 was the classic score but Elfman outdid himself in 'Returns' why he didn't get a nod for the Oscars is beyond me. He needs to win one soon. He deserves it.

The Penguin was a Burton take on it and I would have loved to see him take on the Scarecrow. I think if Burton would do another Batman, I'm not sure what villain he would use.

I think Mad Hatter would be really cool to see if Burton did it. What do you think? What villain could Burton do justice with?

Yeah Catwoman and Penguin were excellent take on the characters, and wonderfully portrayed by DeVito and Pfeiffer. So cute that you named your daughter after Miss Kyle!

I mostly agree with your statement about Elfman. He is my favorite composer, and the one score I never get tired of is definately the Returns one, it is so powerful! Not sure about the Oscar though, but yeah he should get more credit in some way for his work on Returns, it was impressive. You surely enjoyed the bonus features of him describing his process on the Returns SE DVD!

As for the villains, I would of course have loved to see Burton's Riddler and Two-Face...other than that, I'm not sure...

This is a really stupid statement, IMO.

I think it's clear that out of the three directors, Burton understood the persona of Batman the best. His whole talk on the SE DVD about relating to that need to be in the shadows and feeling lonely.

Burton understood the deeper psychological meaning of Batman. His films had the proverbial "Burton" style, but they were as much "Batman" as any other media.

And as everyone's said, Nolan's Batman isn't MY Batman. Feel free to speak for yourself, but don't be naive and generalize everyone into a set way of thinking.

Thank you, I completely agree.

What Nolan did for Begins was fantastic, and I like Bale as Batman, but for me Burton understood Batman better than anyone. I still see Batman 89 as the definitive Batman movie, and Keaton as the definitive Batman.

As for Batman Returns, I love it. I wouldn't say it's a kids film, but the way I see it is the light parts are lighter than Batman 89, but the dark parts are darker than Batman 89.

Never saw Returns that way! Nice thought, I might remember it long time, thanks! Batman Returns is always great, but this statement adds more balance to the movie, thus begin more nuanced than I thought! Nuance is what most movies miss those days, so thanks to the non-blockbusters and the Burton and Nolan batfranchise!

The 60's show was to superhero's what Naked Gun was to Dectective shows.

I think I tend to have a different defination of what makes a movie dark. To me anybody could have Penguin trying to kill sleeping children or whatever. The real darkness to me was seeing a man who dedicated his life to wiping out the criminal element slowly starting to become one.

Batman Returns was dark atmospherically and acting-wise, but it also had its fair share of camp.

I'm of the same opinion. Word by word.

No. Now that we have this new series there's no need for Burton to do a third one.

Batman Returns is dark, but the wrong kind of dark. Begins is kind of that gritty dark, Batman Returns is like freakshow dark.

For that matter Begins is the corny dialogue kind of dark.
