BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - Part 5

Funnily enough most of the women I know like the Thor movies... which let's face it, are god-awful... the worst by far in the MCU... but as far as they're concerned it doesn't matter because Chris Hemsworth is gorgeous! :whatever:

But the first Thor was great! The second one was only decent but it still had the 3rd best reception of 2013 ss far as CBMs go (Iron Man 3 having the best reception, then Wolverine, then Thor: TDW and finally MOS: those who live in Kryptonite houses shouldn't throw stones. :oldrazz:

Thor: TDW was so bad, all I remember about it was the God-awful; shoehorned Kat Denning's humor with her screeching voice that made me want to take a butter knife to the disc for maximum comfort to ease the pain in my brain. That movie was unwatchable to me.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that assessment. I'd say all four of those movies had mixed receptions, and I still have yet to meet anyone in person who didn't think The Wolverine was awful.

Lol, I liked The Wolverine and TDW I was able to enjoy for the Thor/Loki team-up, despite its other shortcomings. I guess I look to see what I can (or do) like about a film first and foremost, and then whether I can tolerate or make peace with the things I don't like. It's sort of like relating to an imperfect person in some ways. (I.e., there may be some things that bug me about a person, but I can still like the person overall, 'warts and all', as they say.) But using this basic approach I also was able to enjoy Daredevil (2003), Fantastic Four (2015), and I, Frankenstein lol.

there are women in BvS, yes, extraordinary ones actually, but it is not marketed and promoted to let female audience know.

I'll guess most women would treat BvS as two Peter Pans play their favorite games together. that's how this film has been marketed.

one trailer pre-texted Wonder Woman's entrance, Internet nerd rage commenced. certain self-appointed geek leaders still have problem with "Dawn of Justice," demanding a 151 min of pure Peter Pan lovefest....

and sex appeals won't take a boxoffice run very far, look at Hemsworth's wale movie~

At a week long conference last month that I attended, I was in a group of 7 women and 4 males (I'm male) and we discussed the CBM and broader fantasy adventure film (including sci-fi and fantasy films) quite a bit during meals. Ages ranged (a couple older outliers), but most were 20s to 30s. I was pleasantly surprised that the women were all into the CBMs! My impression was that they saw the films with their husbands or boyfriends, and probably would not have otherwise. But since they're along for the ride, they actually dig them now. Not into it to the same degree as CBM nerds like us, but still fans with very distinct takes, likes and dislikes, etc. This group tended to tilt a bit more toward Marvel. But remember that early Superman and Batman is a bit on the cheesy side by today's standards, and Nolan's TDKT is grimdark in tone, and MoS is not exactly a free-wheeling, lighthearted, mirthful film like GotG. But best I could tell they were all pretty excited for BvS--although Suicide Squad, moreso. A small sample and anecdotal evidence, I know. But it was still pretty gratifying to see. Oh, and they are excited to see Wonder Woman! And they like Henry Cavill, lol.

Woah Woah Woah Woah Woah..... Woah

The Wolverine was awesome! I mean Wolverine vs the Silver Samurai are you kidding me? that was an awesome fight!

I still say The Wolverine is the most average, mediocre film I've ever seen.

I wouldn't say it is "bad." Just one man's opinion. I have my own personal reasons for liking it, is how I would frame it.

I guess a lot of fans with highly discriminating tastes wanted more, and I can kind of see that. But I still kind of dug the offbeat feel to it. The Wolverine was not at all what I expected. For me that was a good thing. It was much more of an intimate character study (versus straight-up action) than I expected. The story engaged me and I cared about the characters. Not the greatest final battle of all time, but... *shrug*.

What sold me was Yukio. I loved the chemistry and banter between Logan and Yukio! So much so, in fact, that I could forgive most everything else in the film for that. But I didn't mind most things that evidently bothered other people about the film to begin with.

EXCLUSIVE: Latest word on advance ticket sales for Warner Bros’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice per various sources is that they’re outstripping 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool (opening weekend $132.4M), The Avengers ($207.4M) and Universal’s Furious 7 ($147.1M) two weeks prior to their stateside releases. One non-Warner Bros analyst has the figure between $20M-$25M, which isn’t that far from where The Dark Knight Rises’ advance ticket sales were before it debuted to $160.9M. Anything above a $152M three-day would make Zack Snyder’s Dark Knight/Son of Jor-temp-03714.dngEl fusion the biggest pre-summer opening. Besting Furious 7, would make BvS, the biggest Easter and April debut of all time. Last we checked, the global bow is between $300M-$340M, and stateside could reach $140M. BsS will play in 4DX, 3D, PLF and Imax, the latter for three weeks.

It was great! One of the best X-men related films i've ever seen!

:highfive:

 :woot:

Yeah, me too. Personally, I rate it at... number 12 on my all-time favorite CBM list. That puts it above a whole lot of films that most fans typically rate way above it.

So people are still figuring around 150M OW? I still think that's a bit low for a film of this magnitude, but that's just me.

I've never finished The Wolverine. Or maybe I finished it once and just never sat through the whole thing again.

I thought The Wolverine was okay. But Silver Samurai was a huge disappointment.

Studios will always lowball themselves. No one can predict blockbusters.

The Avengers cracked the $200M domestic opening weekend barrier. And both The Avengers and Furious 7 went on to make a billion and a half worldwide by the end of their run. I'll definitely interpret that as an indicator that this film is going to perform great.

With this news, my guess is now 200 mil OW minimum.

I'd say closer to $200 million. Maybe over, depends on the quality of the movie. But even if it's total crap it'll do $600-700 million WW because it's Superman and Batman. If it's any good at all it will easily top $1 billion IMO.

Agree about The Wolverine being mediocre. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It was just forgettable. I think people would rate it even lower if it hadn't been proceeded by the damn-near unwatchable X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
