The only reason Batman ever overcomes any rare foe that is clearly out of his league is because the writers are pandering to the audience. Batman has been more popular than Supes since the 70s or 80s. Really, who are Batman's regular enemies? Superman would annhiliate Batman's enemies and Batman wouldn't stand a chance against the enemies that have come closest to killing Superman.

To everyone that brings up Batman having more brains and using kryptonite, this wouldn't affect the outcome. Despite Lex Luthor being a regular villain that Superman has yet to permanently dispatch, the brains versus brawn argument is founded upon irresponsible Superman writers. The writers have established that Superman can fly near the speed of light and faster than human thought. They have also established that the Fortress of Solitude contains everything known about the universe. The only way Superman is less intelligent than a human is through irresponsible writing.

Final verdict: All the planning and kryptonite Batman could want wouldn't stop Superman from soundly whooping him.

This here is the problem with the Batman vs. Superman argument. We're not talking about a guy with Superman's powers, we're talking about Superman himself. When, in the comics, has Superman ever been a "rape and kill" kinda guy?

The fact that the mythology is riddled with contradictions IS the writers' fault. Official history is that Superman has at his disposal the entire knowledge of the universe and can think much faster than humans can. Official history also puts Luthor at a stalemate with Superman and has Batman as his equal. The writers need to choose between preserving his historical character and historical conflicts, but they can't have both and expect to do the mythology justice. Contradictions are unacceptable.

But it is what it is. Comic books are filled with contradictions and retcons. What may be canon today may not be tomorrow. It was just a few years ago that Iron Man's origin took place during the Vietnam war. Now it's during the Gulf War. Things happen. All we know is as of now, Batman has and can stop Superman again. I think everyone has their idea of what Superman would do to Batman but that hasn't been written yet. Not on the level most fans want anyway (except during the recent crisis where he put Batman in the League ward).

This is not altogether true. The fact that superheroes keep a secret identity doesn't mean or even imply that they are lying to the public at large but rather protecting their right to privacy and in many cases protecting the safety of loved ones who might be connected to them in their other guise. In the case of Superman, his strict moral code and his oaths never to tell a lie and never to take a life are his tantamount traits. The fact that Superman lives as Clark Kent isn't a lie, it is actually who he is and wants to be. Just because we don't reveal to others what we do in our private lives doesn't mean that we are lying to them.

Well, Batman is cool and has some nice weapons. But I don't think he could win without kryptonite. Superman is faster, stronger. He could even toast Batman from the distance.

Superman is also vulnerable to magic, not only kryptonite. all Bats has to do is study the Black Arts & he could easily defeat Supes!!!

He knows some of that too actually...You pick up a thing or two sleeping with Zatanna. He also dispatched Deadman pretty quickly using some of her stuff. I think with a combination of magic and Kryptonite, he can beat Superman without breaking a sweat. With magic alone, Superman would probably be too fast for him.

Batman has also mastered 8 different styles of martial arts and created his own. What does Superman know about hand to hand fighting? If he ever learned anything it would be from Batman. Superman COULD do alot of things to Batman froma distance but would he be dishonorable and wuss enough to do that to a human? Now we all know Superman ain't like that and Batman is way too cunning to let Superman have the advantage of distance.

Let's also not forget Superman: Red Son. Without Wonder Woman's help, Batman would've had Superman beat just by using lamps giving off red sun radiation. No Kryptonite needed, not to mention it just elimates his powers, instead of making him sick, so the fight looks cooler.

I actually think Superman can get the drop on him with those powers of his (if he was smart or cruel). Super breath, ice breath, heat vision. Thing is, Superman is quite scared of using his powers on regular people. Metahumans? Foreign objects? No problem. But I've never seen him use heat vision on a person or used ice breath or super breath for that matter. He's always more hands on when it comes to humans and that would be his downfall.

Not to mention his arrogance. Green Arrow shot an arrow at him, he caugh it, and the damn thing exploded kryptonite in his face. Guy could have just blew it back or froze it or something.
