Batman: Year One

Guys, you're comparing a still from an animated film to a comic book panel. Not only does the panel have a lot more devotion to it than an individual animated frame, but you haven't seen the frame in it's proper context; moving.

Ironically enough, I always pictured Ben McKenzie being a good live action Terry McGinnis in a Batman Beyond movie.

People would ***** about his height, but McKenzie could even be a good young Bruce Wayne and was my personaly choice for Captain America despite is height. I'm a bigger Wally West fan than Barry Allen, but I think McKenzie could play Allen even.

Bruce Wayne has a finesse to his face that McKenzie doesn't have. A relative small fine nose, high set of cheek bones and a very imposing stare.

Bale had all of this in spades. McKenzie does not.

Christian Bale is the perfect Bruce Wayne. I'm not denying that. Traditionally speaking, McKenzie doesn't have the natural Bruce Wayne look. Neither did Keaton. But I think McKenzie would do well in the role. More suited for Terry McGinnis, but I'm just saying.

I understand.

I just hope the next actor WB/_____ director is more along the lines of the traditional Wayne look rather than someone who doesn't look an ounce like him. Yeah, Keaton didn't have all the typical Wayne features (mainly his hair and physique) but he made up for it with his eyes, mouth and great acting of course. Now that we've gotten Bale's performance he kind of elevated the role to where the next director has to find someone thats as perfect as he was to play BW/Bats.

This should always be the visual guidelines for any Wayne from now on seeing as how dead on Bale was in both appearance and demeanor.

And I understand that point, and I agree. Bale has raised the standard so high for the next Batman actor to meet guideline wise that I question if it can happen.

As for McKenzie, it's funny you mentioned Keaton's work with his eyes. This isn't about Ben playing Batman, but just a general observation. When you watch Ben McKenzie, what really makes him so good in my opinion is the work that he does with his eyes and his physical acting itself is excellent, a top notch non-verbal actor. I think sometimes he gets overlooked because he was in The O.C., and it's bull. Compare McKenzie to any one of the other candy asses that come from teeny bopper shows and he is worlds apart from them. McKenzie is what jumped out at me about the O.C. from the moment it came on my television screen and caught my attention, well that and Adam Brody's wit, but you get the point.

Bale was my personal casting wish way back when, but even then I'd still pack him with Keaton as someone who I can imagine Bruce/Batman to look like, without actually being faithful to the classic aesthetic displayed in the comics. Of course, Bale is several steps closer than Keaton, but the point still stands. They capture the right type of demeanor with their own set of complementing physical traits. But it's not picture perfect.

sidenote: in a bit of irony, Bale could have easily been The Joker back in his AP days. His angular features and deathly glare certainly suit the character just as well, if not moreso than Batman.

Incidentally, Adam West has been the closest physical representation I've seen out of all the other actors thus far:

It would be nice to get another modern (dramatic) actor of that mold. Impeccable jawline, undeniably handsome, with a tad touch of a brooding aura. Clooney was a good candidate, but with terrible direction and George's incapability of removing his natural smirk, it was less than ideal for the role.

Well, the closest physical representation when it comes to facial features for Bruce Wayne is Gregory Peck who David Mazzucchelli said he used as a reference for his work on "Year One."

Adam West was perhaps the best Bruce Wayne, because he really laid focus on the elegance such a man should have, and he portrayed him also as a womanizer.
Remember, Bruce Wayne must be the opposite of Batman, a playboy millionare and a light character, not dark and brooding.
His Batman though, was just silly.
Keaton on the other hand was a better Batman than Wayne. Maybe the best Batman??

The thing with Christian Bale is that he nails both sides of the coin, being that rich guy and at the same time a viligante. He does so better than any of the previous actors in the role have done. They are either a good Wayne or a good Batman.

Somebody had to do it. :D

Will this movie be better than Batman Begins?

2 completely different formats. Not to mention we have no trailer and only 2 pictures of this film right now. Not the greatest question in the world.

Definitely very faithful to David Mazzucchelli's original art. Awesome.
