Batman: Year One

I'm overjoy that Cranston is voicing Gordon and that Sackhoff is voicing Essen. The animation looks great too.

Bryan Cranston as Gordon? that's awesome! :awesome:

i've always liked Eliza Dushku and thought she would make a pretty kick ass Catwoman since her days on Buffy. it's pretty cool that she's voicing Selina/Catwoman.

they got some pretty good actors for this film. and the images released look great! seems they are staying faithful to the comic in all senses.

'Batman: Year One' First Look (Exclusive Photos)

Bryan Cranston, Ben McKenzie, Eliza Dushku and Katee Sackhoff have been tapped to star as the voices in Batman: Year One, the adaptation of the Frank Miller comic book classic from Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation.

Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu are directing the movie, the 12th entry in the successful series of DC universe animated originals. Tab Murphy wrote the script.

The feature adapts the landmark four-issue story written by Miller and drawn by David Mazzucchelli that first appeared in 1987 on the heels of Miller's seminal work, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Those tomes, along with The Watchmen, helped elevate the comics medium, changing the public's perception of the art form and influencing Hollywood writers and artists to this day.

In Year One, a young Bruce Wayne is first starting out as a costumed vigilante. He creates an early bond with Lieutenant James Gordon, whose importance in the tale makes it as much as Gordon's story as Wayne's.
Cranston is playing Gordon, while McKenzie is Wayne/Batman. Dushku voices Catwoman, while Sackhoff is Detective Sarah Essen, a Gordon love interest.
Additionally, Alex Rocco lends his pipes as crime lord Carmine Falcone.
As one of the holy grails in comic books, Year One will be closely scrutinized for faithfulness, but superhero animation veteran Bruce Timm, who is exec producing, says there is very little in the movie that isn't in the comic.
"The source material is surprisingly cinematic; it's a pretty straight forward literal retelling," he says. "Mazzucchelli's artwork is beautifully composed and we were able to refer to the comic for about 80 percent of the camera setups."

Cranston, an Emmy winner for AMC's Breaking Bad, says he initially turned down the chance to work on Year One, not even wanting to read the script. He blames it on his ignorance of the animation medium as well as the classic comics.

"I wasn't aware of this level of storytelling in animation. I confess that freely," he says. "They didn't give the characters the short shrift. I was stunned."
Batman: Year One, which will be rated PG-13, is scheduled to be released on home video in the fall but will world premiere in July at Comic-Con.
Cranston is repped by UTA, while McKenzie is repped by Management 360 and Ziffren Brittenham.

I was hoping for Kevin Conroy as batman.I will rent this for Eliza Dushku as Catwoman
and the fact I own the trade paperback of the Year One story.I really don't like all
the different contunitys for the animated films(with exception of SupermanBatman films)

I certainly hope since they are not using conroy here they use him for the 2012 Justice League film. The other 2012 films will probally be the Dark Knight Returns and a Superman story so Justice League;Doom may be only upcoming film Kevin might do(Inless they go for Kevin for dark Knight returns and don't go for a older CLint Eastwood type for the voice)

Bryan Cranston as Jim Gordon is absolutely inspired casting. He would even make a phenomenal live-action Gordon, too.

Wow.

Wow.

Wow...

Literally 4 for 4 in terms of awesome casting and those two images look fantastic.

I've actually been reading the comic these past few days.

The cast sounds great and that pic of Bruce at his parents' graves is beautiful.

I have no idea who these actors are... apart from Eliza Dushku (though I have never seen her in anything), so I guess i'm open to being surprised.

I'm actually glad they went for someone other than Conroy though.

And those images are AWESOME!!! :wow::hrt::hrt::wow:

Agreed. I was hoping for Kevin, but since he's not doing it, they better get him or Ironside for TDKR.

The art looks beautiful.

I'm not.

I'm sick of DC giving these newbie actors the role of Batman in these awesome animated adaptions, and giving Conroy mediocre films like Apocalypse.

Totally agree.

Well seeing how we are dealing with a young Bruce Wayne in Year One, I think it's appropriate to have a younger voice.

Agree, and also Greenwood was good in Under the Red Hood and the few times he appear in Young Justice.

I love these Conroy whine posts we get at every single DC movie thread because they all end the same: People end up loving the new actor.

Delicious, DELICIOUS whine. <3

You should consider yourself lucky... Kevin Conroy is technically the Bruce Timm Batman and considering the DCAU is over, some argue so should his tenure.

He only got Gotham Knight because... A) Bale was unavailable and B) The recording was all ADR, which is really difficult and Timm and Romano needed someone who excelled at it.

He got the Superman/Batman gigs because Jeph Loeb once said that when he wrote those stories he imagined Kevin and Tim Daly's voice in his head.

The Arkham games were clearly fan-service...

----

Plus he got his Year One with Mask of the Phantasm. Don't get me wrong I love him to bits... He is MY definitive Batman live action or animated, but its wrong to dismiss other actors.

Batman is bigger than Kevin and needs to evolve... very few have had the privelige to mantain the cowl for as long as he has.

:woot:

He gave a fantastic performance as young Bruce in Gotham Knight. And if they really didn't want Conroy, they should have gotten Rino Romano.

Agree, and also Greenwood was good in Under the Red Hood and the few times he appear in Young Justice.

NO, Greenwood is not good. I will never understand how people can like his voice.

Please, go back and watch UTRH or YJ. Pay attention to when he yells. It's terrible.

Hasn't happened to me yet. I've disliked every actor who's attempted Batman since Rino.

Be that as it may be, he got the role and we all loved it. Why not continue? I'm not dismissing Ben, he may be great, but I'm just saying I'm sick of Conroy getting the crap scripts recently.

None have, actually. It's been almost 20 years. ;)

Bryan ****ing Cranston! Instant buy for me there.

Can't wait to see how all the emotional storm Gordon and Bruce go thru translate into this film. It's gonna be great hearing the quotes from the book from some A Quality actors.

I don't recall everyone loving his casting in Gotham Knight...

Thats like saying no one but Olan Soule should have voiced Batman and have been cast in Batman: The Animated Series...

Come on dude, we ALL love Conroy... but he Bruce Timm and Andrea Romano have been doing this for 20 years as well, They like working with new people.

EDIT: Can't believe you have me arguing AGAINST Conroy... wierd lol
