I'm defensive because half the things being said are highly inaccurate. For example the movie actually has a very average rating among critics not actually Terrible.

It has 49 out of 100 at metacritic... that's the same score as the second national treasure film. Below average I'd say.

Having said that, it has a user rating of 6.2 out of 10. So what do critics know?

Hancock isn't a very good movie... But honestly, bad movies make money all the time. It's like a fact of life. Hancock isn't any match for Batman though... I didn't think TDK was going to be a huge money maker about 6 months ago (I figured about $250 million total domestic), but this summer hasn't done too big of business and I really think that's because 1) nothing that good has come out and 2) everybody is really pumped for TDK. I don't see the movie having too tough of a time getting to $350 million. I could be wrong though.

Ahh so then you can't read? There are negative reviews but to say the vast majority are trashing is simply wrong.

No it isn´t, at RottenTomatoes it has a 36% rate, which means 64% of them didn´t find it good enough for a fresh, and it doesn´t take a high rate to get one either.

$60 million estimate from Box Office Mojo as of July 4.

I have no idea how that translates in terms of performance. :oldrazz:

It´s a strong opening, but significantly smaller than initial predictions, that went all up to over 70 m.

The problem with Hancock is the whole history of the project is the model of what´s wrong with Hollywood. Reports are that the original script for the movie (back then titled "Tonight, He Comes" was a great, very original one. But then it fell victim for Hollywood´s recipe for disaster known as "too many cooks": A buncha execs and a big paycheck star and a filmmaker without a whole lot of clout all warring over the tone of the movie, and that´s what most reviews are pointing out: that the movie turned into an incoherent mish-mash that tries to please everyone and then in fact barely pleases anyone.

Well, it's Lionsgate's fault if we didn't get Tonight, He Comes like it was intended to. It was going to be Artisan Entertainment's first 100 million+ dollar flick (with Michael Mann directing) but Lionsgate bought the indie studio and the script went to Sony, and they hired Jonathan Mostow to helm.

Meh I feel Mostow is better than Mann. Mann is a joke and has maybe made one or two good films. Most of his stuff is mindless crap.

I'm assuming the length of the movie would have no major impact on how much money it brings in? Technically a 90 minute movie can be shown more in one day than a 150 minute movie, especially for IMAX where they can't just dump it on an extra screen in the theatre. Spiderman 3 was 140 minutes so I guess that voids my theory...

...I'll say $110 opening weekend due to darkness and not attracting the kids.

I'm going to say $85, but I hope its higher. It will be one of the best reviewed films of the year though, and get probably the best word of mouth of the year too. While crap like X3 opens well then bombs, Batman will open reasonably, and then have strong legs keeping released probably all summer. I'm hoping for $250 overall, and then around $400 internationally.

Sometimes you need a bit of mindless crap.
Meh maybe some people do, but it's never for me I hate mindless garbage.

I'm With you on this one although I think it will be higher internationally.

It would be lovely if TDK made double what BB made in opening weekend total, domestic total, foreign total, and overall total.

It would be lovely. ;)

Yes, that would be lovely, but I doubt it would make over 400 million domestically alone...300 yes, but 400? :oldrazz:

How well has Indiana Jones done to date? i see that as The Dark Knights biggest competition (along with Iron man that past everyones expectations, plus you cant discount Harry Potter)

As much as i'd like TDK to be this years biggest movie i think that'll go to either Potter or Jones.

A man can dream, right?

Correction, BB domestic total was 205 so it would be 410. :D

Batman is going to open around 100 mil and up trust me every one wants to see this movie and its not just fanboys or teens its every one from boys to girls to teens to adults every one wants to see this.

Heath Ledger fans are going to watch the movie and I'm sure he draws in a huge croud from women and gay's.

Bale fans obviously

Comic fans

well to point things out, when i went to watch wanted a crouded theater full of teens all began clapping once the tdk trailer ended if that doesnt show hype then I dont know what does.

so 100 mil to 150 mil is not impossible and seems to become much more likely with each day that goes by

Well this thread exploded over the last day. :P

I can't say for sure what TDK is gonna make right now, but Potter won't be competition for Iron Man or Indian Jones.

Looking back on it, your right. I'll say $450 internationally.

EDIT: I've been looking over release dates..

..And I think Mamma Mia is going to do great numbers.

Over at Rotten Tomatoes there's a thread where someone said how Mamma Mia would give TDK a run for its money.

Heh...
