EA Battlefield 3 - Part 2

Has anyone ever pre-ordered from Origin? I just want to make sure there haven't been negative experiences before I pre-order my copy of Mass Effect 3. Thanks!

EA CEO John Riccitiello has tipped his hat to publishing rival Activision for successfully introducing a subscription offering for the Call of Duty franchise - and hinted at the possibility of something similar in the pipeline for Battlefield.

While Call of Duty Elite wasn't specifically named during a chat with investors about digital strategies earlier this week, it's clear who the EA boss was referring to when he said (via Seeking Alpha): "When we look at what we do and what our competitors do, there are a number of examples of [what] I would call the best work of our industry in terms of making this work.

"Frankly, I gave a compliment to one of our competitors," he added. "It's got a subscription on the back end of an FPS title. I think that's a best-in-class performance.

"And we study all of these, and by way of example, when we put [FIFA] Ultimate Team out there, we had a competing idea with Madden, none of which I'm sure - none of whom I believe on the call would even know the name of it because it quickly faded and it was replaced with Ultimate Team because we're learning from best practice."

He continued: "So the reason this is such a fast-growing revenue stream for us is we're identifying and implementing best practice across the range of our products, and you'll see lots more to come including an announcement near term that Peter just alluded to."

The upcoming announcement Riccitiello was referring to? Just moments earlier, EA vice president of investor relations Peter Ausnit had said: "We've got plans for all of our major franchises to turn them into more of... games for service that have a constant flow of downloadable content. You're going to hear some announcements from us on Battlefield actually as early as next week in an event we've got in New York."

And so it begins.

Sounds good to me. I'm all for a steady stream of BF content.

Take alook at the sims and what EA done with that. This will spread across all EA games. It wont be free, it wont be cheap. Content will futher be diluted in the long run with a higher price point. God dammit. Thankfully the majority of EA games aren't worth playing.

Eh I don't really care. Iv got money to spend. If its a product I enjoy, like BF3, I'll keep handing them my money with no questions asked.

Oh god, we're going to keep getting content for games we love and enjoy. The horror.

One more ribbon until I get the Decorated trophy. So close!

I'v been playing Black Shark lately (flight sim for Ka-50) and the ironic thing is, regardless of being 100 times more complicated than Battlefields arcade helicopters, it still handles much better thanks to auto-hover and trimming. Arma 2 has similar helicopters mechanics to Battlefield but they had the common sense to add auto-hover.

Oh god, we're going to keep getting content for games we love and enjoy. The horror.

Thats an over-simplifcation. I never said I was against additional content.
Team Fortress 2, Portal 2 and Left4dead got additional content, it didn't cost me a dime. Likewise, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Fallout 3 got additional content in the form of expansion packs, it was good value.

A good example is how tomislead people with pre-order DLC. making it appear as a bonus when what it actually is, holding content random with a gun in mouth unless you buy it new. Then re-selling it to maximize profit. It's cutting content out under the guise that it's addtional content.

Then you will get subscription fee's on top of the game that doesn't actually require one with them withholding content months before people who arent subscribing with exclusive content (withheld) for those that aren't subscribing that just monopolize the crap out of a game with small dribbled convoluted content that ultimately fragments a gaming community. Gaming is pretty lame now, definitely not as good as it was ten years ago. This kind of crap is partly the reason. Awful.

A recent good example of EA's utter greed is "The Old Republic". The default price of a pc game here is £29.99. The Old Republic is being sold specifically by EA for £44.00 (thats £14 more than the price of a console game) with the limited edition for £59.99. Put the £9.99 for the subscription free on top of that. Thats EA. *****bags. Now seen as the good guys because Activision managed to be even biggereryer *****bags.

Eh I don't really care. Iv got money to spend. If its a product I enjoy, like BF3, I'll keep handing them my money with no questions asked.

They will probably keep finding new ways to monopolize you more and more until you are.

Fine by me. I purchased, with money, weapon skins for Gears of War 3. Weapon skins. I haven't regretted that purchase at all either. I'll gladly do the same here.

And in relevant BF3 news, a patch should be out today for the PS3 that fixes the VOIP issues. Also it should fix the USAS and Frag rounds and the Mortar in some fashion.

Battlefield 3 players on the PS3 will be seeing a patch on February 6th, tomorrow, which will address the VoIP problems. But what else will the upcoming patches include for other platforms? On top of the recent announcement of the USAS-12 shotgun fix, other patch details have begun to surface.

Mortars in have always been a controversial feature in Battlefield 3. Fans have been pleading that players should be unable set up mortars while in their own spawn where they could quite easily be unreachable. DICE has recently stated that it “will be fixed in next patch.”

The latest patch addresses the VOIP stuff on the PS3 only. No Frag round fix as of yet. I think that's going to be in the next major patch along with other goodies.

Can't wait for all the nubs who are going to suck at OP Metro without their precious handheld LAV canon. More knives!

Also, DLC announcement any day now...

OpMetro doesn't count. That map is so poorly designed, if you dont have at least 35 kills, you are doing something wrong.

Still, 75 kills is pretty damn ridiculous. I would accuse you of camping but seeing as how you died 26 times, that clearly wasn't the case.

Thats crazy tho, i dont think iv ever seen a kill count that high. I think the highest iv ever seen is like 60 something.

I was also on the attacking team, so couldnt camp much. only time i did camp was because my squadmates died and i didnt want to attack the M-Com alone and then walk all the way back to the M-Com. But yeah, metro is pretty poorly designed.

i would hope it would track how many m coms i set and the ones that got defused because I would set one, then they would defuse it. I set them at least 10 times, they had good defense, but we just overpowered them by better planning. Since voice is fixed we can finally talk to each other and plan things out better.

Yea u can rack up kills in rush, especially if there is a lot of disarming going on. I played in one match where each set of mcoms got down to like the last guy. I think everyone walked out of that game with like at least 50 kills.

omgomgomg. Seriously, wow.

It always pisses me off when snipers take vehicles over engineers, but this man can do whatever the **** he wants.

I gotta get back into this game, man. Maybe when that new patch hits and nerfs the frag rounds I'll jump back on.

Same.

hahah with air vehicles it doesn't really matter. :o

Yes, it does. I land the heli all the time to repair if it's getting too hot. :cmad:

Goddamn snipers, go jerk off in the deployment you bastards.
...I hate recons who don't PTFO. /rant. :o

Any Recon who doesn't use a SOFLAM is worthless IMO(on maps that have vehicles of course). The Recon class can be such a vital part to a squad but damn do people not know how to use that class. I blame DICE to a degree. They should award more points for SOFLAM assists and spot assists.

Best part is seeing spawn beacons in your own deployment belonging to random smurf recons trying to go all Mark Walhberg.

I hope when I start playing this again that I haven't completely forgotten how to fly stuff. I got really good at piloting choppers and jets before I stopped playing to the point where I was almost unstoppable, and now I'd bet I'll just crash them immediately lol.

I think iv regressed with the jets. I used to be able to stay in the air all match, now as soon as another plane gets anywhere in the vicinity of my tail, I get shot down. I swear there must be some new evasion tactics that have been discovered that I don't know about.

That's what extinguishers are for. :o

I like running around the outskirts of battle with iron sights hahah, it always reminds me of those 2 awesome delta snipers from Black Hawk Down.

I hate those idiots. :(

Everytime I whip out the SOFLAM I'm just wasting my time coz nobody on the team has a javelin. I mostly just fly the MAV to places that can't be reached and park it so it acts like a T-AUG hahah.
