Be Afraid...Be VERY afraid...Green Lantern Script Review

Was Nacho Libre a hit...think that but worse numbers.

Can't comment, since Nacho Libre isn't out in Australia yet and I didn't care enough to track its success online. Actually, it could be out... but, still, I don't care. I hate "stupid humour", if you know what I mean?

Meanwhile... you know what baffles me? Not only does Green Lantern currently match Superman for the number of related titles on the market (as someone mentioned earlier)... but it's successful enough, too, to justify a second wave of top-notch action figures! I got them today and, boy, they're nice!

If GL's not big enough to justify a "proper" film franchise (ala Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the rumoured Flash), why do they see a market for 'Shark', 'Manhunter' and 'Salakk' figures? Does Warner communicate AT ALL with its family of companies?

I'm seriously thinking this is all one big marketing joke, to goad us out of hiding so the studio can see - once and for all - where the GL market is. After all... it's definitely one of the riskier franchises... but, if done well, it could be absolutely huge!

If I'm wrong... then I agree... this piece of trash will be forever known as "GLINO".

*Sigh* :(

Wow. Oh my God. I'm saying this with the most sincerety that I can, I feel like my soul was just ripped out. There is no room for joking and exageration, this is awful. I have to take awhile and compute this, because I'm just dumb-founded.

LOL!

You need to go read a newspaper or something every once in awhile. A comic book movie isn't soul ripping lawl

**** me that was garbage, I think a boycott of the genre is in order.

I've only recently started reading GL, but this is very upsetting. I'm guessing that they are going to route so as not to over-saturate the market with serious superhero flicks, but, as has been said before, there are so many other characters who could and should be translated to the big screen in a comedic way. GL has to much potential to set itself apart from the rest of the superhero pack by being the epic space adventure that it should be and I truly hope that we don't see that dream turned into a joke.

This is like the Shazam/Captain Marvel thread version 2.0. Like I said in that thread, there are comedic characters in DC's library much better suited for this treatment.

Its really quite disheartening that these iconic characters are going to be getting movie adaptations that are little more than an hour and a half version of an SNL skit. If made, I hope that this movie fails miserably.:up:

d'oh missed this thread anyway I hope this is a joke cause at the very least it looks like a parody movie

I absolutely agree. Green Lantern may not be the MOST serious DC property, certainly not as serious as Batman (but killing kittens is funnier than Batman). However it has always dealt with issues and plotlines in a frank and serious manner.

In addition GL (Julius Schwartz) is the first comic ever (this is true) to treat comics as a serious medium. It was the first to have continuous storylines that lasted more than one issue, the first to have DCU references. Also the first to explore a supporting human cast who were not all dolts and comic relief. Carol Ferris and his Native American friend (whose name escapes me) were both very well developed and three dimensional characters.

FAR from a comedy.

The way I see it I'd treat Batman, Superman, GL and Flash as completely serious properties. Comedy would only exist as a necessary component, but otherwise the plots and characters would be serious characters.

The next category would be properties that are dramatic comedies. So along the lines of family films, or films which have silly characters/components. Captain Marvel, Teen Titans and Legion would all fall into this category. They are lighter films.

The last category of straight comedies. Ma Hinkle "Red Tornado" could be a laugh riot. Blue Beetle and Booster Gold could easily be a Ben Stiller/Luke Wilson vehicle. Heck even Aquaman, at least his public preception is that of a throwaway characters that you might be able to get away with it. Heck the friggin Wonder Twins.

That script sounds horrible..even if it went straight to DVD. Just leave the GL franchise with some integrity and don't title it "Green Lantern", just disassociate any ties to Green Lantern and make it its own screwball comedy with some new title and I'll be fine and I probably won't even watch it anyway thank you! I doubt WB would greenlight that script, but I wouldn't be too suprised either..CINO was released...just to put it simply...CINO was released...intergrity can easily be preserved...don't title it GL. :batman:

Agreed... but the problem lies in the "very" GL story... I mean, they have it al: Sinestro, Kilowog, the Guardians, "the Book" (ugh)...

This is so, so stupid...

Oh, and to ShadowBoxing... I agree for the most part... but Blue Beetle's cooler than a throwaway comedy! Mind you, I knew nothing about him til Infinite Crisis... but, still, he was a pretty intense character (despite any previous incarnation). I'm even liking Booster Gold, in a tragic (yet unfortunately very realistic in this day and age) way.

They shouldn't be doing this to GL. If this were Elongated Man or Blue Beetle, I'd have no problem, but to do this to the Lanterns is just wrong. This will turn out like Catwoman, maybe even worse.

what i dont understand is why cant they come up with an original spoof movie like My Super Ex-Girlfriend? they got half of it down anyway, all they need to do is change the names and turn the greenlight yellow or something.

I just saw this today from CountingDown.com. I still think that this is not offical and we are just getting our danders up for nothing.

Thank God......That article makes me feel better about the whole thing. Let's ''Not live in fear of ever seeing that movie''. Whew.

Sadly, that story is exactly 2 years old now. Since then, Jack Black has made some noises about being approached about a GL movie again, and this script is dated June 2006, so I'd be weary of it not ever happening.

I really hope it doesn't though.

Why are people so upset about this? This is what happens when tragedies of cinema like Fantastic Four are praised to high heaven: "Oh it's just a fun movie, you're not supposed to take it seriously. It was pretty good for what it was." I hear that crap ad nauseum. The studios hear that crap too. Now WB will try for a shallow, low-budget superhero flick in the FF vein, one that they think will make them lots of money, but they'll use Green Lantern to do it. Fans asked for this, I hope they're happy.

jack black being cast is the least of the problem right now. i mean, they could get the most amazing actor atached...but with this script and this approach, its still gonna suck.....oh, and its of no comfort that the article is OVER 2YEARS OLD!

:gl: I am disgusted with this script idea. I am a huge Green Lantern fan I have Hal's symbol tattooed on my right arm, and Kyle's second symbol tattooed on my left arm. I own every issue of the Hal to Kyle series and every issue on the new series. Not to mention t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, rings, watch, wallet. :gl:

If this movie get greenlit, I will get rid of all my GL stuff, cause I would want to have any ties to GL after that.

What can we do to stop the WB from doing this movie??

The only way I can accept it is if they make it after an epic GL trilogy with changed names and title. That way it will be a parody on the trilogy a la Spaceballs.

FF had a solid cast (despite Ms Alba), and for the most part it was a popcorn movie but gave enough recognition to its comic book roots. so it emphasized the comedy a little bit, so did some parts of Spiderman1. obviously their priority was to get a sequel-- which they did. i'm not as up to date with the FF2 as i was with the first one, so i dont know how the sequel is shaping up, but if they're using Spiderman as a template you know they're gonna go darker and closer to the comics.

however, this Green Lantern script is like putting the Adam West version of Batman onscreen. major difference right there.

Congratulations, you deserve this movie!

I take it you don't read comics if you think that the FF is way off.
FF in the comics are lighthearted so the movie was almost on point. You can't compare this GL to FF because GL isn't a lighthearted comedy. The Thing and Human Torch have always had a funny relationship. Any

I know you were pissed over what they did with Doom in F4 but this is much worse, none of it is remotely like the source

I imagine that will hurt when you try to get the tatoos removed.
