It just seems so premature. The result of Justice League is unknown and The Batman with Reeves could be a good experience and a successful result. For him to already be considering leaving seems cowardly and lazy, as if he is running away from the responsibility for the result and running away from the responsibility of the work involved like getting in shape, etc.

Don't get me wrong. I sympathize with all of what he must be feeling, and I don't want him to do something if it will hurt him in some way or if his heart isn't in it. However, whatever happens I hope he handles it with grace and, if he doesn't continue, he assists in finding and establishing some sort of replacement whether that is with a protege taking on the cowl or prequels.
I agree 100 percent. Maybe he has a bad feeling about Justice League but why not be excited for The Batman? Unless the script is really bad but still..

I don't think it's a good idea to do prequels with a younger actor either , especially if they cast somebody like Armie Hammer who just doesn't work EVER as a lead in a movie. And he's wrong for Bruce too. I don't have faith that they'll be able to find a good replacement right now.

Affleck, in the past anyway, wasn't known for being particularly mentally strong when adversity came his way during in his career. His reaction to Daredevil, for instance. The general consensus has been that the guy has grown and matured as he's got older, and is far more stable now.

Or they do the BRAVE thing, which is drop Batman from the schedule completely for the time being. This is what they should have done anyway of course, after TDKT, but that's an argument for another time. Concentrate on developing other characters, instead of falling back on your one and only cash cow over and over again.

And I say this as a hardcore Batman fan!

OK as I'm thinking about this, it's becoming clear to me. And I might be wrong, same with Campea's sources but this makes sense..

I've been complaining that a new director won't have the control to cast Alfred, Bruce, Deathstroke, Joker, Harley, Croc, Deadshot, Ivy, Catwoman, or Gordon. Reeves is usually s guy who wants creative control so maybe he will only do this film if it's a prequel where he gets to cast everyone (Manganiello looks young enough, where he may stay put). Maybe Affleck's film was supposed to have two actors in the role of Batman, including himself and now they'll just scrap the older Wayne part of the script and focus on the early years.

This allows Reeves to either A) not use the Joker B) recast Leto or C) bring Leto back but have it set before he meets Harley Quinn, possibly before his teeth were knocked out, before he killed Robin and before the tattoo's.

This rumor is beyond boring at this point. The smart money is that he will wait to see how Justice League is received before making a decision like this. But if he leaves because being Batman is affecting his creative process or his career more than he expected it to, so be it. He's a human being and he's allowed to make his own career decisions. Worrying about it won't change anything. Would it be good for publicity? No, but as tired a cliche as it is, the character is bigger than the actor. Even this actor.

Because the "wait and see" attitude has worked wonders so far.

If Ben wants to leave, so be. Ditch the script and let Reeves start from scratch.

This whole thing has gotten so ridiculously complicated.

I'll be all for it if Reeves made his own Batman movie outside of this universe.

It's pretty sad to see how much of a disaster this cinematic universe has become.

Seriously...and it would be a dumb move on his part because any last "golden boy" points he has would be spent after Live By Night tanked.

Leaving aside that I want him as Batman (and dont buy the rumor) that would be a monumentally stupid decision on his part. The time to leave was before Justice League...now if you leave you not only have the films weighing you down but you also look like a whiny quitter.

We will see...I gotta say though it is rather convenient that this comes out right about when Reeves is signing to make the film. Either the bloggers are looking to troll or Reeves and Affleck dont see eye to eye.

He's been more interested in politics and thrillers than
doing whatever came his way.

He also probably wishes he could remind himself and others of this every morning.

Yeah, it's going to suck to have to ditch so much of what's already been established. But if it means a smooth track to a great series in the future, then I'm down for the long run.

I've liked all the actors set within this bat-universe, but the character's always bigger than the actor. And I'm frankly sick of all this bad press consistently deflating my innate hype.

I find it really hard to believe that Ben and Matt don't see eye to eye, Ben probably had a huge hand to play in picking who would be the next director. I could be wrong but that just doesn't make sense to me.

What's complicated? A director decided he didn't want to direct a movie and they are going to hire another director. Happens all the time with all sorts
of movies. Other than that at this point in time everything is exactly the same. Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck wrote a script, which WB is pleased with.
And Ben Affleck is still slated to appear in the movie as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

If Ben planned to leave well before, they couldn't make it public as Justice League was well into production already. The absolute earliest they can make this known is after Justice League is released. At that point no further bat-appearances are confirmed.

Wow. Where do all these DCEU rumors come from? It seems like there's negative rumors every other week.

I am talking about the prospect of Affleck walking away entirely, which is what's currently being discussed.

This whole "will he, won't he" narrative regarding Affleck's future with the franchise is not only tiresome, but as others have said it's doing nothing but putting a dark cloud over people's enthusiasm. Uncertainty has that effect.

If being Batman is truly proving to be that much of a bother to him, just walk away, issue the press release, and be done with it.

It's kind of funny to think how people cried about Ben being cast as Batman and now people are losing their minds at the prospect of him leaving.

I guess they're thinking of the blowback from fans.

Well, Matt Reeves was announced as the 99.9% director three days ago. So "bad news" was expected.

When the Justice League trailer drops I'm expecting something like "sources say Henry Cavill got hit by a meteorite and won't be able to play Superman any more".

I'm going to wait until I hear the words come out of Ben Affleck's mouth before I take it as fact.

Campea said Cranston was cast as Luthor, so take that as you will..

Ever since Batman V. Superman was announced, rumors began circulating that Emmy-winning actor Bryan Cranston was being considered for the role of Lex Luthor. Fans were thrilled by the reports as the Breaking Bad star had always been considered the perfect choice to play Superman's arch-nemesis. For his part, Cranston welcomed the fan enthusiasm and publicly expressed interest in the part. However, he did caution that Warner Brothers had neither met nor contacted him.

Even after Jesse Eisenberg landed the role in January 2014, Cranston maintained that he never had one conversation with WB. But in a new interview, Zack Snyder reveals that Cranston was one of several actors that the director met with for Luthor.

“We talked about the usual suspects that you would imagine; any actor who has been bald, probably,” Synder told EW. “Bryan Cranston would have been great, right? And by the way, he’s an amazing actor. Can you imagine how different the movie would be?”
