Guardians of the Galaxy Benicio del Toro is - The Collector

Out of all the characters introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, Benicio del Toro's the Collector was perhaps one of the most unique. Plenty of fans described him as "David Bowie in space," and I feel that James Gunn missed the opportunity of Quill or Rocket renaming him "The Hoarder".

Even though Carina blew up his base on Knowhere, the Collector plays an important role in Thanos' quest for the Infinity Gems (or Infinity Stones as they are in the MCU) and we know that del Toro has signed a multi-picture contract to play the character. He was shown to still be alive in the film's post-credits scene and Gunn has already confirmed that he'll be back for the sequel.

Personally I felt his role in the movie was quite limited and didn't serve much of a purpose aside from exposition. The entire Carina sequence was also really weird and didn't make a lot of sense. While his role in the comics isn't necessarily that fleshed out, it seems that his movie incarnation is pretty different and the sequel could be a chance for us to get to know the character more and look into his backstory as an Elder of the Universe.

Where will the Collector show up next? Will it even be in Guardians 2 or a completely different movie? What role could he play and will he interact with any other Marvel Cosmic characters?

The Collector defo hope to see more of him in next film. Also kinda hoping maybe Kang or Korvac may make a movie script someday soon.

I want to know the status of the aether. That place was a total mess and certain artifacts may have been taken.

Not every character has to have a fleshed out role. Just like other movies, you need supporting characters, and that was what the Collector was, a supporting character.

That being said, in the comics, Collector collected things because he forsaw a powerful uprising that could possibly destroy the universe. That force was Thanos. I think the Collector will have similar motivations in the MCU. I bet he is trying to collect all of the Infinity Stones before Thanos gets his hands on them.
