Best and Worst CGI Ever seen in a movie????

I never actually saw the covenant, and I'm guessing most of you didn't either.
But the CGI work in that movie looked terrible.
Just. . . skip ahead to the end around the 2:22 mark. Yeah. . . that went into theatres.. .

That was just terrible.

I remember in the first FF movie, when Reed stretches his arm underneath the door and i just could help but laugh at how terrible it looked.

anything about Mr Fantastic effects was bad

Best: Forrest Gump(the scene in Little Rock is too awesome for words), Jurassic Park (sweet ass T-Rex eating the guy on the tiolet and pretty much that entire scene, just awesome), Transformers (OP vs Brawl on the highway was pretty much the craziest thing I've ever seen on a big screen), POTC: Dead Man's Chest and At World's End (Davey Jones and the Kraken, nuff said), & T2: Judgement Day (the T-1000, woah).

Worst: Too many to choose from.

I can tell you that 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' is somewhere close to the top of my list for Best CGI.

As for the Worst on my list... that'd better go to: 'Dragon Wars'. When I saw the trailer, I wanted to literally gouge my eyes out:o

Dark Wolf has some of the worst CG scenes I have ever seen.

Looks like an even ----tier version of 'Twilight':o

Anybody remember a really sh**ty racing movie called "Driven?" Didn't think so.

It starred Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, and some guy who looked like Johnny Lang. Anyway, I guess because they were afraid to perform real racing stunts, so we were
treated to multiple scenes of cartoon race cars flying through the air in slow motion.

The stunts in Pixar's "Cars" looked more realistic.

This is literally off the top of my head since I'm too tired to truly think about it.

Best ----> Transformers. Pure genius.
Worst---> A Day of Thunder. Vomit.

ohh A Day of Thunder.. now I get it. never saw it but read enough about it..

The attack scene in Pearl Harbor was also really well done.

I remember the first time I saw "Twister" it blew me away. Not sure they hold up to todays standards, but when I look back it really did push the envelope.

Staying on the subject of Tornadoes, Atomic Twister was just appaling.

Sounds like something on the sci fi channel.

I remember watching that channel alot when I was younger. Then... I noticed it was bad all along. I watched it primarily because thye were covering Van Helsing back in 04 and a little before that I watched some stuff for fun when I had downtime on my summer vacation.

But when I come to that channel, it's as if I need a cross to cast away those bad movies.

I've only read the last couple of pages but the Scorpion King at the end of The Mummy 2 just almost ruins the entire movie

It's practical effects all the way for me when it comes to Lycanthropes. At a push, I'll accept minimal CG touch up's, but generally, I prefer stand alone in-camera make-up.

I agree. Stan Winston, as great as he was, he and his crew did a poor job with the werewolf special effects in Skinwalkers -- the fact that it was a bad movie didn't help things either. I'm not sure if it was a small budget that hampered things or poor design in general, either way it was BAD.

However, Stan Winston and ILM did a great job in maintaining a consistently good-looking and realistic view of the Iron Man suit in Iron Man. Very impressive integration of special effects and CGI.

Correction: It's called "A SOUND of Thunder." My bad. What sucked is that I still LOVED the concept of it. The plot of it was very intriguing and it could have really gone the distance if it was in the hands of someone else. It was just so hard to watch for much of the time. Oh man, the utter ugliness of it all. The futuristic city was laughable and those ape-dinos were atrocious. *cringe* Horrible.

Honestly I don't think any movie has flawless CGI all the way through. I say the Spider-Man series had alot of great CGI. Third one had the best in my opinion.
There are so many films with great CGI though. I really liked King Kong and Transformers etc.

Worst? Geez. Any Sci-Fi Channel movie.

Best visual effects in the past 5 years
Pirates 2 and 3
Transformers 1 and 2
Iron Man 1 and 2
Avatar
King Kong 2005
District 9
Star Trek 2009
Narnia 2

The attack scene in Pearl Harbor was also really well done.

The CGI itself wasn't too shabby, but the overall execution of the attack was pretty appalling.

Irreversible's subtle use of CGI is pretty ****ing great.

HOnestly i think you guys need to make a difference between good and bad CGI. Of course something like Twilight or a SCI-FI channel movie will have bad CGI because there simply isn't money to create top end VFX. And plz don't use D9 as an example because it's a conbination of things that helped those VFX look.

IMO you guys need to focus more on bad CGI in movies that had to the money to create proper VFX shots. For example the first mummy movie had some pretty solid FX shots. The 2nd one not so much ( due to the fact that the movie was rushed).

Or about Van Helsing or GI Joe. In both cases the budget was pretty high yet compared to what you get in movies like TF or Matrix , the shots looked like ****

I think Avatar ha dtsome of the most photoreal CGI I've ever seen. Transformers film's have to be a close second. D9 also had amazing visuals AND on a relatively small budget.

WORST CGI I've ever seen was probably in some Sci-Fi channel movie. One film that comes to mind was a 2004 film called Immortal, it had aful CGI and they tried to make it like SKy Captain (which looked awesome for 2004) but failed miserably.

i agree, but i feel small budget movies should try using pops more so than cg if they cant afford it. the art of creativity is working with what u have the best u can.
