Should they make another Punisher movie?

For half of Year One he's a wreck emotionally, then him and the reporter decided work together an investigate what happened to him and his family, and then once Russo kills the reporter and blows up Castle's home in the final issue does he go put a skull on his chest and start killing criminals. The film more or less followed his emotional journey, though it substitute him investigating with plotting Saints downfall. The movie is dark and violent, just in a different way than PWZ is.

Tampa isn't all sunshine and rainbows, it's apparently a pretty violent place. Hensleigh just could have picked more seedier locations to shoot some scenes, but it worked and was at least an interesting place to set a movie like this. Also, Frank Castle did go to Florida on multiple occasions in the comics, once even to kill the Costas.

I've always find it funny how The Punisher is the easiest character to adapt, yet his film adaptations are pretty hit, or miss. Frank Castle doesn't have any super powers, nor does he wear a bright, colorful costume. He's just an archetype for the 80's action hero who just happened to star out in a Spider-Man issue.

I've been waiting for this trailer for a while. Looks really damn good. Love the whole retro-vibe. Here's hoping Hensleigh can successfully repeat the '70s vibe he had going with The Punisher.

I agree with this 100% if they make another one now that the rights have finally reverted back to marvel, I want to see what hensleigh and jane can do when they are not on a shoestring budget, and I think that the expendables proved that 80s style action wont go out of style anytime soon.

Unless a movie really gets into who Punisher is, why bother?
But the thing is, no movie will get the Punisher right, unless someone really takes to time and effort to do it.
The first thing you think of when you look to the Punisher is gun and bullets, so, many think that Punisher is nothing more than a dumb action movie in the likes of Rambo or The Expendables.

The Punisher needs to be gritty, violent and dramatic.
The audience needs to understand what and why he does it, they need to sympathize with Frank Castle and feel for him, but they also need to be disgusted and sickening by what he does, not about how he does it (so gore and alike is not a necessity).

The Punisher is not about revenge, it never was.
The moment you make is so is the moment you lose what he is about and you get nothing more than an action movie on steroids.
The Punisher is about a man that lost everything and "returned" to the war he left behind.
The Punisher is about Post-Traumatic stress disorder.

I think the next Punisher movie (not really looking forward to a TV series) should be an R rated blend between TDK (in terms of a vigilante taking on the mob), the Punisher MAX comic series (I wouldnt mind if they call it Punisher MAX), and Death Wish (in terms of a man pushed over the edge movie)

If Stevenson were in Jane's Punisher movie, we'd have gotten the perfect Punisher film, although that movie could have done with more Punisher kicking ass and less sneaking around

The only way they could do a good Punisher movie justice would be to do a big crime epic. Like maybe three movies, do something worthwhile with great writing. Let it be a good story first, regardless of Punisher. David Ayers could write and direct or have John Woo direct them with an help from comic writer Brian Azzarello. These guys are masters at crime stories, at handling film noir action material, they can deliver a good story yet make it uber kickass too. There's no reasons one can't go with the other.

I agree that I wouldn't mind a punisher series if done well. Prefer showtime or HBO but AMC has been doing good stuff as well.


I thought Jane and Stevenson were great. I liked the first movie better but thought Pullo made a better Punisher.


I'm happy he's back with Marvel and have confidence they will do it right if they do it. Go get someone like Guy Ritchie to direct ftw.

Well, it kinda didn't fail (especially compared to The Punisher '89 and Punisher: War Zone). It did well enough business to get a sequel greenlight, because remember Punisher: War Zone was originally going to be a sequel starring Jane.

John Woo needs to direct The Punisher in the style of Hard Boiled and The Killer. Those films balanced story with action, well and were classic Crime-films.

Woo has got to go back to the trademark Crime-film style of his.
