Drama Better Call Saul! - Breaking Bad Spinoff A Go At AMC - Part 1

I love that this show feels like Breaking Bad never left us. Also cool that we learned a little about Gus childhood.

I feel like that was Jimmy’s “this is my territory” moment at the end.

Kim's decision is probably the thing that drives Jimmy to that point of no-return we knew was coming.
I'm also very intrigued with the germans' storyline. Where could that go?

I've gotta say, I feel like the show is dragging a bit this season. I didn't mind Jimmy and Mike each doing their own thing apart from each other, but it's getting to the point where it feels like it's not going anywhere, or at least not anywhere interesting. The whole subplot with Mike helping to build out the meth basement feels just like something they threw in because Mike needed something to do. Which makes that whole sequence a few episodes ago of him having nothing to do and then deciding to go around playing security guy in that warehouse feel so meta. I mean, did the meth basement really need an origin story? And Jimmy selling cell phones and convincing Kim to help him (again) after one of his dumb schemes screws things up for him... I don't know, it just feels like they're really stalling at this point. I'm glad Gus is back but I want to see him do more.

Second half of s3, and the first few of this season have been solid... but the past three have been pretty meh.

Yeah. I feel like all the stuff with Mike and Gus took a boring turn after once the Nacho/Hector story was resolved. Hector being a mean SOB and Nacho scheming to kill him was really intense, and then Gus figuring out what Nacho did and the aftermath of that was great. But since then... that whole story has just revolved around Mike acting like an overbearing jerk in warehouses. It's really dull.

I agree. Maybe the problem is that there's no visible ending. With Breaking Bad we knew Walt was going from point A to point B to point C and there was mystery behind it, how things could turn out. His arc was well structured. But in Better Call Saul we know (besides Kim) they all survive and where they end up. So there are no real stakes. I also think they're afraid of making Jimmy unlikable, he's always on the edge but we still root for him.

I've said this many times, but now they REALLY need to bridge Mike/Gus storyline with Jimmy/Kim. Is like two shows on one and they never overlap. It's getting intrusive on the quality of the show, there's much stuff they can do if Jimmy finally enters the criminal underworld and starts working with Mike because he's the link between both shows (Better Call Saul and The Mike Show).

Yeah, exactly. It feels like they're just stalling at this point. I mean, we're four seasons in and it still feels like Jimmy is years and years away from becoming a CRIMINAL lawyer. Granted, he's doing some shady stuff (even occasionally committing crimes) but it still feels like it will be a long time before he starts setting up those pillars and a copy of the Constitution in his office.

These shows have always been slow burns. You remember the big moments from BrBa but the majority of that show on an episode to episode basis dealt in careful, subtle movement with the characters. It's the same here. Gilligan, Gould, and co. are obsessed with process. You can be sure that every scene matters.

Oh no it's still an awesome show!. It's just starting to feel a bit aimless this season.
I miss Chuck as a character.

I'm glad Chuck's gone - his repetitive game of one-upmanship with Jimmy was getting so played out. It was just a mistake not to replace Chuck with some other villain (or villains) for Jimmy to square off against. The writers seem strangely unwilling to allow Jimmy to get his hands dirty in Albequrque's underworld, maybe because they love Jimmy so much more than Saul. They really need to get a move on, though. Behind his genial exterior Saul was a vicious guy in BrBa, and we haven't really seen any indication of that in BCS so far.

That is one elaborate awesome con.

I know. It was amazing. Unfortunately, the DA is now onto Kim and will be watching her future cases like a hawk.

Speaking of, it's surprising how Kim has suddenly reembraced her dark side. We've all been assuming that she would leave Jimmy and that would be his catalyst for breaking bad, but if she is the one who pushes him in that direction? I'm starting to think they won't break up at all and she'll have been his attorney and the person running Ice Station Zebra during BrBa.

All the build-up with Kai was to misdirect us from Werner. Mike's probably gonna have to kill all of them after this is over. Where did Mike find these guys? None of them seem to have any clue how dangerous the people they work for are. Of course, Werner knows he's in Albuquerque, knows Mike's last name, and has seen Gus so it's not like Team Fring is being all that careful, either.

So we've finally met Lalo. He's a lot cheerier than I would have expected. I'll bet he turns out to be really evil.

It's been quite some time since BCS has made me laughing so hard. That website had me CTFU.
I agree that is super risky, especially such a huge production. Too many things can pop up as falsified.

I just finished season one. I think it is a good show so far but not great like I felt Breaking Bad was. It's great to see Mike again. It's a shame his character was used so little in the first several episodes....but then he did a tour de force turn in episode 6 "Five-O" that was fantastic.

Really liked 4x08. I missed the cons and the cases.

"Lets do it again."

That was a gutpunch. Kim is on the downslope now.

Kind of a weird episode.

The fight between Jimmy and Kim felt really forced. What's he pissed at her for? It felt to me like Odenkirk was having a hard time selling it. Kim's response, "Jimmy, you're always down," was incredibly brutal and satisfying, though.

Speaking of Kim, after that stunt with the map I'm off her bandwagon. Whatever happens to her she'll probably have coming.

I've been more patient than most, but I'm officially bored with the German storyline. Werner going AWOL was not the event I expected or wanted. All the Germans need to be killed and buried under the lab to justify the amount of time we've spent on them.

They better bring it on Monday.
I agree the fight was off to me, but my jaw dropped when Kim told Jimmy that's he's always down. :csad:
It was nice to get a back story on the bell, it never occurred to me that that could be a possibility. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
