Drama Better Call Saul! - Breaking Bad Spinoff A Go At AMC - Part 1

For me, regardless of what you thought of the finale or final episodes, to me the bigger story here is...a spinoff show that a lot of people (myself included) were highly skeptical of ended up being a welcome surprise and something I looked forward to watching for the past 7 years. It was way better than it had any right to be, and in some ways I do think the show found its own identity and dare I say improved on Breaking Bad in some respects too. So regardless of how the finale sits with you, it's good to take a moment and realize that overall, it was an excellent show. Finales are almost always going to be divisive, especially when it's a beloved show and there are so many theories on what should happen. Even Breaking Bad's finale was criticized for wrapping up things in TOO neat of a bow. The Sopranos ending (which is brilliant and perfect IMO) was hated for years before more people started coming around to it. So this needs a bit of time and space to see how it ages. But overall, I don't think you can say this show wasn't a great success overall. To me El Camino was kind of the more meh addition to the Bad-verse that I didn't feel like I really needed.

It went out on a more low-key note, but that's where a lot of the roots of the show were. Court room shenanigans. Saul being one step ahead of everyone. The Jimmy/Kim relationship. Jimmy's complex relationship with Chuck. It was a show about lawyers. It was also a Breaking Bad prequel about the cartel and Mike, but that part of the story had more or less been wrapped up and the circle to BB was complete.

Can we all give Rhea a round of applause? She’s one of the best actresses I’ve seen in my life. She’s probably my favourite actress right now along with Florence Pugh.

She was fantastic. I feel like I kind of took her for granted throughout a lot of the show, because she was so good that it didn't even feel like acting. The accolades she's getting now are totally deserved. She just completely embodied that character. It definitely took someone special to share so much screen time with Bob and not get blown off the screen. I look forward to seeing what she does next.

Jimmy finally manned up in every way... he revealed all about the Heisenberg connection, admitted to things he did to Chuck and to others, he admitted to himself ABOUT himself, inside, he really DID have regrets, he gave closure to Marie Schrader, made his peace with Kim... he redeemed himself admirably... he worked a life sentence and 190 years down to seven years and then he manned himself up and received 87 years... so, more than likely, Jimmy will be spending a majority of the rest of his life in prison, unless there will be a possibility of parole in his future for good behavior... and he won't have it too bad there... he has a prison job doing the same thing he was doing at Cinnabon AND he seems to be well-liked, respected and a hero, of a sort, to the other inmates due to his Saul persona... I LIKED the ending... I didn't expect it to play out the way it did with Jimmy coming clean, but I knew that incarceration would be his ultimate fate... a fitting end for the series...

I do believe Saul HAD to end up prison. I never saw it going another way. Cinnabon and pretending to be someone he's not was a worse prison for him. There weren't too many options left after what went down in Breaking Bad, so it's not really the absolute worst outcome for him. The truth set him free, even though it landed him behind bars.

Plus Walt died, Jesse escaped. I like that each of them has a different fate. And I'm happy for Marie and Gomez' family's sake that at least one person responsible for what happened to Hank and Steve actually got put away. It's a nice bit of closure for some of the few purely good characters on these shows.

I never expected Skyler to show up in any of the post-BB scenes in the show but it would have been hilarious if they tried to pass off an almost 30-year-old RJ Mitte as a teenager.

Flynn lol was very close to Hank and Marie so him being at the Saul Goodman trial would have been cool and they did meet briefly in the car wash

Perfect ending. Odenkirk and Seehorn are phenomenal in this and I will miss this show almost as much as I miss Breaking Bad.

Now if only a certain real life slimeball lawyer would end up in prison for the rest of his despicable existence…

I too am hoping for some "life imitating art" energy here. :hehe:

What do you think that hint of color from the cigarettes near the end mean?

I think it was just an artistic touch. Personally I think they could have dropped the black and white and gone back to full color once "Gene" was caught but I also didn't mind it either.
