Black Panther: Wakanda Forever General Discussion and Speculation Thread

This is what Marvel wants, so....I accept this decision and we shall see what happens

it's 100% the right call and i had hoped that is what they did

no actor would be able to step out of boseman's shadow regardless

Agree with it or not, this is what Marvel wants. I respect that. This was their choice

Not surprised. And it's the right move.

Way too early too recast a beloved version of a character due to a death.

I think it's a bad move to not use T'Challa in future MCU projects.

He's going to be in the upcoming "What If" as a replacement Star-Lord.

Just because Boseman isn't going to be recast now doesn't mean T'Challa won't come back at some time in the future. He's The King Of The Dead and a resurrection down the line is still a possibility. Just not now.

Still a dumb choice. Every single one of my black friends wanted to see T'Challa's story continued and now they're writing him off? And for Shuri? We spent a whole movie having TChalla realize the gravity as his position as BP and now its all undone and dropped on Shuris lap?

I'm pretty sure Boseman would want the character to live on as he understood the gravity of being a strong, regal, black hero.

Well if your black friends think it then all black people must think it as well

and why are people acting like we're still not gonna get a regal, black hero. Black Panther 2 isn't gonna star Clint Howard

No but you can see on Twitter and social that most people, especially the black community, wanted TChalla to continue to be a prominent figure in the MCU. You spent a whole movie on making a Black King and then you kill him off?

Yeah but TChalla belongs in the MCU at the forefront, not some other character.

They killed him off because he died not just cause...
And I'm on Twitter and a member of the black community and I for sure don't see "most" people saying that.

This was a very divided topic. Marvel was gonna make someone angry either way. But, they are the ones with the voice that matters.

But TChalla was alive and well. I get it, Boseman embodied the character, but you could tell that he loved the character and understood the impact it had on the black community and black boys.

So you give a chance to another young black actor to make his mark and continue the legacy that Boseman started.

But whatever, whats done is done. Now we'll have anti vaxxer Letitia Wright be BP.

I’ve never been a fan of a recast. Personally I think Shuri should take over or maybe M’baku but I didn’t want to see another actor take over the role. There would always be comparisons then.

Jack Nicholson is still alive and the Joker comparisons don't stop even if it wasn't Ledger passing so they would happen regardless...

Do I have an opinion on this? Sure. But I am going to see the movie regardless and how can I really argue if Feige and Coogler thought this was the best way to honor their friend, who they knew much better than me?

Like I said months ago, regardless what Marvel decided, I would respect their decision. This is not easy for anyone

But those were different iterations of the same character. If BP was recast, it would still be in the same MCU universe as Boseman’s.

I think the arguments against recasting in same series are weak in general. This was unique circumstances. Like, if Boseman had left out of a contract dispute, then you recast. Same series or not. Don't care how good they were. Unless it is a RDJ or Evans situation where they retire after life 10 movies. This situation was unique

I am wondering if they will just sideline T'challa for a movie and then have a triumphant return with a recast in BP3.

It's going to be strange having a BP movie without T'Challa knowing full well he came back in Endgame. Not sure this will sit well for a lot of people.

Don't agree with the decision not to recast. But hey, as has been said, it's their character/property and their choice.

I half don’t agree with the not recasting but I also understand why they did it. Having that cast return and with someone else in Boseman’s role is just way too jarring and you’re instantly distracted.

It just won’t work.

I mean, if you had another actor who came in and did just as good, if not better, portrayal, would it really not work?

I guess this irks me because I WISH I had, as a Hispanic, a prominent character in the MCU, especially in the Avengers, so I can't imagine how big of a loss this is to young black kids, especially boys, to have an amazing role model, that they can relate to, as a major player in the MCU just get killed off screen. It doesn't sit right with me, even as a narrative choice.

In all the promos of BP that they showed us you saw what it meant to Boaeman to see what TChalla meant to so many people, I'm sure he would want his legacy to grow past his role as him.

I feel it’s more like a strong consensus of people directly involved in the sequel about the no recast decision like the actors, director etc who might find it still emotionally tough to work if it is recasted, which will make it quite difficult to pull off a good movie given the release date. I guess Feige decided not to pull rank on this one to make a tough situation tougher and believes that the crew will make this work without a recast.

I am on the recast camp, I think it’s just more logical, but I can see how attached it can be for those directly involved. They should have delayed the project indefinitely and consult everyone again after awhile to give time to think it through and emotionally cope.
