I will take good model work over CGI every day of the week. I also love the sweeping aerial shots in this film.

my brother got this for my on blu ray last night as his way of saying thanks for taking care of his dog when he was out of town for the week. It comes with a metal 3D fold and assemble model of one of the Spinner cars which is cool.

That said, there's still a ton of CGI buildi g work in this film Alo gaide the models and it's all pretty seemless.

Watched this for my 1st time since the cinema today. I do find I like this movie more on rewatches. I still prefer the original Blade Runner, but again, that is one of my top 5 favorite movies ever, so I never thought it was going to top that anyway. But, easily this is one of the best films of 2017 for me. Give this movie the cinematography Oscar NOW! :cmad:

Hopefully I'll be able to watch this again soon. After pre-ordering the steelbook last month it has yet to arrive in the mail. This might be the last time I shop at Best Buy, what an atrocious experience.

As for the film, while I wasn't as blown away by it as others in this thread, it's still in my top 10 of 2017 (though there's a ton of films I still haven't seen, so that may change).

Direction, cinematography and production design are the likely candidates.

Next to 2001 and Blade Runner this is the most visually arresting sci to picture ever made.

    Saw the movie yesterday.
Wow..... it strangely enough stays with me.
The score the production design , cinematorgraphy it so amazing.
I found the story quite solid and surprisingly easy to follow compared to the first time i watched Blade Runner. Back then i really was wondering what the hell the big fuss was about.

Also this movie is everything the Ghost in the Shell movie wanted to be.

I would add Alien and Aliens to that list, as well.

Hmmm...it looks like Denis and Deakins owes a lot to the Knightmare sequence from Batman v Superman for the Las Vegas scene.

Batman v Superman hardly invented that sort of look or style.

Both shots are gorgeous, but BR looks less like a composition of practical foreground and digital background. But BR shot has that typical Deakins symmetrical "small silhouette in the center of nowhere" composition I'm seriously tired of.

Yes... I’m sure that legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins was sitting there during preproduction saying to himself, “You know what would make this movie really pop? If it looked like Batman v. Superman.”

Mad Max Fury Road came out a year before BvS and had a similar look. I wouldn't be surprised if Snyder put that scene in there after seeing it.

I love the Vagas scene. Deakins was like, you thought Macau was yellow in Skyfall? I'll show ya. Love his tendency to push colors beyond the level of comfort.

That scene is just so brilliantly lit. Everybody points to Shanghai, but that sequence is the showpiece of Skyfall imo. The whole ....field is lit by that burning house [emulated by Deakins using a massive lighting rig], and nothing else.

Especially when Bond is again thrown underwater, the combination of the yellow lighting and the snow create a beautiful green hue. Gorgeous.

    Is that a deleted scene?
