I hated what was done to Starfox. A mirthful and enjoyable character , albeit cheesy, attacked by the new "grimm and gritty" mature hocus pocus of marvel plots. At some point the rapes, murders, and CSI type jargon gets cliche, I think that point is well past at marvel.

I thought that seemed distinctly un-slott like too.

Then I see what DC is doing , and I shudder about marvel's future.

So Im guessing you hate the rape of Sue Dibny as well? And Dr. light was a rapist?

Well I agree Darth has a good point. Notice I didnt say anything in my review about Slott's abilitys persay. For what it was, the writing was pretty good, but let's eliminate the legal aspect althogether and see this is yet again a "talking heads" kind of issue , of which IMO marvel is far too over run with.

And I do like these kinds of books..when used in moderation, but In so far as Marvel they are increasingly the norm.

And i hope you dont mean me when you reference people who've seen the movies and hop on. I am all comics man. Cut my arm and back issues of Avengers will ooze out.

I meant no offense man. I bleed Rom Space Knight.

yeah i did think those were dumb too. DC is not flawless.

I guess for the most part, I abse my judgement on more "feel" and "vibe" of the majority of comics DC is putting out.

The DC books I read now are currently Teen Titans, Green lantern, Some of the Superman books, 52 , and I get more of a "vibe" off these comics that reminds me of what I love in comics. its hard to describe, and it is tough since I am such an OG marvel homer and DC hater.

I'll still buy mostley marvel, becuase of the mind control device they lanted on the base of my skull in the late 80s. But I give DC props for what i see as a good track.

I've only flipped through SHE-HULK in stores occasionally (I don't like Shulkie enough to buy the book regularly), but my understanding of the Starfox issue was that Slott basically took his schtick, which is using his "pleasure center" powers that he'd used to hook up with women into the 21st century and the age of terms like "sexual harassment". Starfox was created in the 70's when terms like that didn't exist and the comic book world was a bit of a lighter place that didn't always get QUITE as "grimy" as comics would get after the mid 80's (after DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and WATCHMEN). Heck, in the 70's, the very concept of "rape" was hardly as socially acceptable for discussion as it would become in the 80's.

Starfox uses his powers to "get" women to sleep with him, regardless of whether or not they have any sort of genuine interest in him (past comics have seen him "hit" on nearly anything with breasts, much to some of their chagrin). In 2006, how is this any different than a lot of date-rapists? Simply because Starfox doesn't use violence or threats doesn't mean it couldn't be seen as "rape" by some people. Granted, it can be jarring to see a character who has seen a lot of Limbo since the 70's used in that way, and shifting a character's sensibilities from the free-loving 70's to the "realistic" 2000's can be jarring. That's the nature of "court dramas merging with comic stuff" I suppose, which was obvious to me when White Tiger got put on trial in DD a few years ago.

Slott's proven himself to be a guy who researches characters, accepts continuity while putting a spin on it. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. But I was never really fond of Starfox, so maybe I don't relate the same.

I do agree that "decompressed chatter comics" can get tedious if they become the norm. SHE-HULK's a court-comic/comedy, though.

She-Hulk is possibly the LEAST decompressed book Marvel is putting out right now.

the accusation of "talking heads" is strange as well, since that's usually a critique of Bendis where the dialogue is more like this:

"huh?"
"Did you say something?"
"No."
"I thought you did."
"uh uh"
"oh"

That's NOTHING like She-Hulk. People actually talk about things in She-Hulk, the dialogue is much more similar to a bronze age comic.

I think it would be like the lounge but less exciting, not saying the lounge is exciting.

Yeah. Issues 6 and 7 challenges the image of our male sex heroes. Starfox is just being the ultimate player. Fans still have no problem with the sex lives of James Bond, Daredevil, Batman, and Green Arrow.

Yeah, I hope Slott still keeps some humor in the She-Hulk. But I wonder when Dr. Light will rape a future Teen Titan because he's more dangerous now. :down

I just flipped through it, but I thought it was being promoted as being part of the lead up to it
Actually, quite the opposite. Joe Q specifically said that it had no tie-in with Civil War.

Ironically, postings like this kind of remind me of the way Gambit8370 posts.

I see what you guys are getting at with Starfox(do a barrel roll).

Slott was playing on our complete and utter moronic ability to become OFFENDED at EVERYTHING in this country now. Starfox was a very fun character all throughout the 80's and early 90's, but here in paranoid-land, his character would be treated EXACTLY like that.

It wasn't a destruction of the character, it was a look in the mirror for us to see how completely silly our court system, the rampage of litigation, the complete disregard for self-responsibility and how easily offended our society has become. I thought it was brilliant.

And I missed Nextwave this week, dammit!

Iron Man #8-This story has a real international/cinematic feel to it.So much going on in different places.Right now,I couldn't care less who's running around in Tony's armor and why. It's the brewing friction between Tony and his teammates that has been executed so well in the past 2 issues. The Knaufs said they really wanted to show Tony isolating himself from his peers and what effect it would have on everyone, they've done a good job so far.The battle with Graviton was very kickass, especially the Spidey trying not to crush Cap part.Awesome stuff.

Black Panther #16-BOOK OF THE WEEK-There is no denying the quality of the past couple issues by Hudlin. His storytelling has improved so much since the first 6 or 9 issues. This issue actually reminded me of Heinberg's style of writing where every single idea is given its own page or 2 to breathe. In part 3 of the arc,the digital invitations are sent out to everyone, and I mean EVERYONE.It was sad to see Cap and Tony in arms,I almost cried.Reg handles everyone's voice and opinion really well with everyone sounding in character.Meanwhile, while everyone is busy reacting to the wedding, many are concerned with the amount of attention this event will bring.People like SHIELD and Wakanda are getting ready for what could end up to be potential target with so many heroes and world leaders in one place. They have good reason to as well, many sinister figures seem to be plotting in the shadows including a childhood friend of T'Challa's seen in #14.I won't say who,but I love Hudlin's usage of obscure characters. This issue was so packed with so many ideas and I loved it.Can't wait for the bachelor party!

Daredevil #85-A somewhat quiet issue which prepares us for the big war that is to come in Rykers. We get to see Frank and Matt talk over lunch about why Frank is there.Big Pun sees some action as well.Fisk arranges for a meeting with Murdock which ends up in a pretty civil discussion about who's been manipulating who.In the end,it turns out that Fisk and Murdock are the prime targets for the prison war to come according to Morgan,Carlos, and Hammerhead. On the outside,Dakota gets targeted after dipping her nose into this Alton Lennox fellow's office. However,"Daredevil" keeps a close on eye on her stalkers. Can't wait to see this war erupt. The Punisher kills me,the man is hilarious in this issue. His definition of "fun" is twisted and funny.

New Avengers #19-This book has had its ups and downs. But I can't think of one story arc in the book's history which has ever been so high up as the Collective arc.Bendis has done a good job of making sure these guys go out with a bang.Iron Man steals the show here while Director Hill continues to be an ass.Lots of superheroics in what is easily the best New Avengers storyline to date.
