Bought Thought 10.15.08

My favorite block of cartoons back in the day were He-Man, She-Ra, Thundercats, and Transformers...which I use to watch religiously every Saturday.

Heck even in the nineties we had: DuckTales, Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, TailSpin, and Darkwing Duck. This block was just as entertaining.

It's a shame that network cartoons aren't as imaginative as they were in the 80's and 90's. Hence why they always have to be rehashed and revived.

Even a little show like MIGHTY MAX, which hardly anyone would consider in a Top 10 list, is miles above some of the non-comic stuff now.

Mighty Max was awesome.

I always found it funny that a baseball cap was the most powerful artifact in the universe. They didn't even come up with anything clever, like giving it the ability to change what type of headgear it appears as (ie. a battle helmet back in medieval times). Even when they showed the previous Mighty One (who was a barbarian) wearing it, it looked like a red baseball cap.

Great show, though.

That dude that was with him was what made the show. He was like somebody took Hercules and Brock Effin' Samson and stuck them together to create some kinda, bastard child of awesome or something.

Yeah, I could spend an hour typing all the cool shows. Transformers, Thundercats, TMNT, Inspector Gadget, He-Man & the Masters of the Universe, Voltron, Ducktales, Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers, B:TAS, etc. Things really didn't hit the skids in that regard until the late 90's.

Mighty Max was awesome.

It was far better than the toy line it was based around.

Teleporting hat = awesome premise for a show. Who knew?

And don't forget a talking chicken, erm, foul.

The cap could change form. When the main villain, Skullmaster, donned it in the series finale, it turned into a crown. Granted, he was a sorceror, so who knows.

It was a solid, often overlooked little show that usually aired on weekday mornings or Sunday's, but it was just as creative as a lot of other shows of the time. The only caveat was the finale; some people hated it. It basically justified syndication.

His name was Norman, voiced by Richard Moll (best known for playing Two-Face in B:TAS). He was a Norse warrior who gained mystical immortality and many mythological ballads were seemingly based on his exploits, and he went by many names, including Thor. Yeah, Norman rocked. He had a good rapport with Max.

Oh, and a couple more named that I use to watch: Robotech, Speed Racer, and Captain N: Gamemaster.

Also did anyone else use to watch the early 90's follow up to Masters of the Universe? It was when He-Man and Skelitor went to the future. I loved that show to.

No he wasn't. he was best known for playing Bull on Night Court!

That show sucked.

I loved Captain N so much, I waited for a revival right up until the Nintendo 64 generation.

Yeah, loved that show. favorite episode was when they went to Mega man's world.

Mega Man himself had a pretty good show around the early '90s. I liked it because it showed Dr. Light, Mega Man, Roll, and Rush as a family instead of just an army of robots fighting Dr. Wily's robots all the time. Kind of sexist that Light built Roll as a cleaning 'bot, though.

I think you mean "best known for playing that f***in' giant security guard on Night Court." :oldrazz:

That fact that he didn't mention that....saddens me. Dread,.....sometimes..........I don't think I know you. :o

That show sucked.

You suck. :cmad:

It showed Skelitor as an actual threat instead of a bumbling idiot. In fact part of the way through the series, Skelitor actually won, and it took the heroes the rest of the series to wrestle the power back from him. :o

also, Richard Moll was awesome as Bull. That is all.

Weren't all of Light and Wiley's robots supposed to be maintenance bots on that show? I'm pretty sure Cutman was supposed to be a gardener or something. It's just that, in the end, Roll ended up being the only robot on the show who wasn't redesigned for combat.

It's because Dr. Light had a wierd maid fantasy about her. :(

You want an awesome Skeletor, the last series they had that was on Cartoon network. That was awesome.

You know, I wanted to watch it but never got around to it. Worth picking up on DVD?

Will it live up to my high nostalgic standards set by the previous two series?

I loved it. Check out a few episodes on Youtube to see if you like. Easily the best interpretation of the Masters of the Universe if you ask me.

I'll check a couple of episodes out tonight then.

My obsession with cartoons is crazy sometimes. People that come over think I buy them for my kids....riiiiighht. ;)

I only neglected that because we were discussing cartoons and that wasn't a cartoon. Yeah, Bull was awesome.

I also watched CAPTAIN N: THE GAME MASTER, even if Megaman was green.

The 90's Megaman show was...alright. I watched most of it, but it could have been better.

I watched maybe 1-2 episodes of the MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE revival. The animation looked good and the action wasn't bad, but didn't bother with the rest. I heard it was decent and then took a dive in the last season.

I always liked cartoons and appreciate the freedom of the medium. After I discovered anime, I have waited patiently for America to make equal strides. Sadly, networks just used that as an excuse to cut costs. :(

You want a show that grabs nostalgia by the horns and kicks its ass while still being an awesome show unto itself, watch Beast Wars. I still don't understand how G1 fans can hate it when it ties G1's story into its own and both come out richer for it. I mean, yeah, Beast Machines sucked giant donkey ass, but you can just ignore that part.

She still kicked some of the other robots' asses, though. With a vacuum! :D
It's because Dr. Light had a wierd maid fantasy about her. :(
I'm starting to suspect that may be true... :(

It was the early-mid 90's; cartoons were still allowed to be sexist. Then BUFFY and KIM POSSIBLE came along. ;)

You also have to figure it was ingrained, since the mainstream MEGAMAN game series didn't have any girl robots besides Roll until the just-released MEGAMAN 9.

Naw, that last season was great. That fight between Skeletor and Man at arms? That episode when they showed the first He-Man riding that big ass battle cat? Hell, they were about to bring in Hordac then the f**kers canceled it. First that then Samurai Jack then JLU. I am through with CN. :(
