Bought/Thought November 4th, 2009 --SPOILERS

Some more reviews before the next Bought/Thought thread starts up (tomorrow??? Do we get a day delay, due to Veterans Day???)

Batman Unseen #3 and Batman-The Widening Gyre #3: Definitely pick up Batman Unseen over Kevin Smith's Widening Gyre. I love the Batman minis, but Unseen is far better than what Smith is doing. As I said before, I've really enjoyed pretty much all of what I've read from Kevin Smith; but, this 6-issued series is just bad, like he phoned it in. Unseen is Batman doing great detective work, while tracking down the new villian who's being assisted by Black Mask.

Jonah Hex #49: I was so looking forward to this 5-part Jonah Hex story, "Six Gun War." While I have pretty much loved all the single issued stories we get every month, I'd been dying for something more grand and epic. This wasn't it. This issue concludes this storyline, and it just didn't gel well. Usually the guest appearances by such characters as Bat Lash have been fun, they just seemed to get in the way here. There were too many characters, a weak plot, and an unsatisfactory conclusion to the story. (Let's just say vengence is not really served in the end.) With issue #50 next month, I'd have to say "Six Gun War" was the low point of this 49 issued title.

Starr The Slayer #3: I wasn't sure about this title...sometimes the Max minis can be pretty bad (see The Destroyer); but, Daniel Way does an excellent job telling the origin of Starr The Slayer. It's got great humor, and Corben's art, while not my favorite, works really well with Way's story. If you have a chance, check it out.

The date on Diamond's shipping list was for 11/11, if I recall correctly. So maybe Veterans' Day is one of the few holidays that doesn't screw up Diamond's schedule...

Yep. Guess also if your shop is deciding to observe it or not. I would think most would be open.

Dang, still have the following comics to read for this week:

Conan #15 - I'm a good 5 issues behind on this series.
End League #9 - Final issue, but I have issues 7 and 8 to still read.
Doom Patrol #4 - Gotta read 2 and 3 still
Greek Street #5 - 3 issues behind
House Of Mystery - 3 issues behind
Lobo Highway To Hell #1
Red Tornado #3 - still havent' read issues 1 and 2
Secret Six #15 - behind about 5 issues
Ghost Rider Heavens On Fire #4
Nova #31 - 3 issues behind
Torch #3
Boys #36 - 3 issues behind
Herogasm #6
Project Superpowers - both issues, of which I am way, way behind on.

I'm surprised no one else is talking about Stumptown. I would've thought there'd be others who were into Rucka's gritty crime stuff and would've checked out Stumptown.

I picked up Stumptown last week and thought it was ****ing great, very impressive first issue. What'd you think of it Corp?

I loved it. Especially the structure--opening with the climactic moment and then backtracking to tell us about the characters and make us actually care about the climactic moment the second time around.

I would have, but my shop didn't get it. Probably have to put in an order for it

Like in Uncharted 2, where the game starts halfway through the story where you're in a train that's about to fall off a cliff:o

I've spent all of the last 3 days playing Uncharted:(

Amazing Spider-Man #610 - Ugh, I hated this issue. I hated the art and the story didn't appeal to me in anyway. Paul, please stop writing ASM.:o

Ultimate Spider-Man #4 - Another iffy issue. Bendis' dialogue is starting to get on my nerves and I still don't care for Lafuente's pencils at all. And the coloring in this issue looked off.

Sweet Tooth #3 - Another great issue. I'm loving the bleak dialogue between the two main characters and the post-apocalyptic world. For anyone who also enjoys this, I reccommend you pick up Cormac McCarthy's The Road and Stories of the Apocalypse which is an anthology of different interpretations of the end of the world.

I've heard really good things about that game. I'm still waiting for that disaster game that I remember seeing previewed a good year ago. It was suppose to be released by now, but remember it got a big delay as the release date was getting closer. Can't remember the name, but it's suppose to be about your character surviving after an earthquake, if I remember right.

I think the game you're thinking of is I Am Alive, and you're right, it was suppose to come out this holiday season but got pushed to late 2010
