Some more reviews before the next Bought/Thought thread starts up (tomorrow??? Do we get a day delay, due to Veterans Day???)
Batman Unseen #3 and Batman-The Widening Gyre #3: Definitely pick up Batman Unseen over Kevin Smith's Widening Gyre. I love the Batman minis, but Unseen is far better than what Smith is doing. As I said before, I've really enjoyed pretty much all of what I've read from Kevin Smith; but, this 6-issued series is just bad, like he phoned it in. Unseen is Batman doing great detective work, while tracking down the new villian who's being assisted by Black Mask.
Jonah Hex #49: I was so looking forward to this 5-part Jonah Hex story, "Six Gun War." While I have pretty much loved all the single issued stories we get every month, I'd been dying for something more grand and epic. This wasn't it. This issue concludes this storyline, and it just didn't gel well. Usually the guest appearances by such characters as Bat Lash have been fun, they just seemed to get in the way here. There were too many characters, a weak plot, and an unsatisfactory conclusion to the story. (Let's just say vengence is not really served in the end.) With issue #50 next month, I'd have to say "Six Gun War" was the low point of this 49 issued title.
Starr The Slayer #3: I wasn't sure about this title...sometimes the Max minis can be pretty bad (see The Destroyer); but, Daniel Way does an excellent job telling the origin of Starr The Slayer. It's got great humor, and Corben's art, while not my favorite, works really well with Way's story. If you have a chance, check it out.
