One Big Answer: Bendis can't bother himself co-ordinating with the rest of the MU. That same exact story could've been told with Spidey's mask on. Or with a note that reads: events take place before Amazing#546

Looks like more like one made up assumption by someone with an axe to grind rather than "one big answer" to me.....

Actually, it's not Bendis fault. Joey Q and the Spider-Man writers have made it clear that everything about Spider-Man's relationship with the New Avengers would be spelled out in April in the Amazing Spider-Man title. No explanation has been given, or will be given until then so any Spider-Man appearance must be met with some type of ambiguous timeline that can't be clearly defined until that point. That's why when asked directly about Spider-Man's relationship with the Avengers, all the writers have not answered directly because they have already set out to explain ALL of it in Brand New Day. Clearly, marvel is being real careful with all of this and that's why no timeline has been set yet.

Doesn't make ILC's description of Mr. Bendis any less correct. They could have used an editor's box, but we all know how taboo they are at this point.

They can't use an editor's box because then that wouldn't explain anything.

For example, how do we know those events take place before Amazing Spider-Man #546? Because of the costume? We don't know, they do, and they will explain it. An editor's box would just bring about more questions and not answers. Be mindful that in Marvel, Wolverine is in two ongoings with two very different costumes, so it's not like it's something new going on here.

I agree, but just to play devil's advocate (i.e. be a dick to Darthphere), they haven't explicitly tied one of Wolverine's costumes to a certain, finite period in his life like they did with the black costume and Peter's hunt for the people responsible for owning Aunt May. It's understood that Wolverine could just be changing back and forth between costumes; not so for Spider-Man, who returned to and later ditched the black costume in the extremely linear last few arcs of ASM immediately before OMD.

You're no Photojones.:csad:

1. Blame the Editor then not bendis.
Seriously you actually called them editors boxes in your post, did you actually type that and think you were making a reasoned argument?

&

2. Marvels high profile relaunch of their leading character contained 2 editor's boxes. That doesn't seem particularly taboo to me.

What is it about the name bendis that turns otherwise sensible people into slobbering monkeys with a non existant grasp of reality? He's got enough actual faults as a writer, I really don't see why people need to invent them.

It's fun.

Heh, me too. He was good people. He gave me a Hawkeye Marvel Legends toy. :D

Well, you earned it with that whole Hawkeye blowing Bendis' nuts off with an explosive arrow thing you did.

I had one of Gambit's posts in my sig once upon a time. It was lovely.

And hilarious.

I just got around to reading this issue. I loved the hints to things that would happen in the future. Particularly Johnny being able to turn white hot and manipulate all fire AND Ben getting continuously stronger all his life.

Yeah, it was a cute issue.

As I hint in some of my reviews, to me, those who dislike McDuffie's FF run are the very sorts of readers who "shock & awe" writers like Millar try to appeal to. McDuffie played by the formula, and aside for Ororo & Storm joining the team for an arc (Reed & Sue were rarely off panel for long), his run was by-the-books FF entertainment. So much so that one wonders why he wasn't tapped to pen a cartoon of their's. I've enjoyed McDuffie's run and felt it was needed to get things back on track after CW stretched Reed in an unlikeable direction.

Because of one post? Are you serious? Or just an idiot? Bendis has lots of flaws, which I've defended, much to the consternation of many around here (ask Doc). I think I'm allowed to point them out.

I don't think it's out of line to point out that a simple editor's box which says "This story takes place during before the current events in Spider-Man" is all that revealing. Hell it's vague enough for them to claim that they mean BiB, OMD, or BND later if they want. Of course, we wouldn't want to waste space on those 11 words, when they need them for Bendis' scintillating one word back and forth "realistic" dialogue.

Dude.
Huh?
Yeah.
Seriously?

Before you go throwing around the insults, why don't you check out my pull lists, which are pretty much a Bendis primer. If my one post hurts poor widdle Bendy's feelings, he can laugh all the way to the bank. I'll defend the dude, but his writing "skills" and attitude towards the rest of the MU earn him everything he gets (and that's from a fan!)

The same thing that makes his name turn people like you into a super-defending ass-kisser.
