BOUGHT/THOUGHT for 8/29/07!

I hate to do this do myself but how on earth did the hulk beat a fully powered juggernaut??

He didn't beat him, they were locking hands and pushing against each other when Xavier came in and complained that they were destroying the foundation of the mansion.

Juggernaut turned to look at Xavier and when that happened the Hulk let go quickly and got out of the way. Juggernaut was still pushing forward so he ended up running forward out of control and smashed into a lake embedding him into the soil.

Hulk ended up leaving before the Juggernaut pulled himself out.

Thanks.

(it'll be saturday before i can get the issue)

I've been reading it, and picked up the last issue but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Been liking it?......for me the only slight problems with the mini were Spidey acting a little too goofball in a situation where it was really not appropriate...(but it's JMS's Spidey so no shock there)...and Strange's gift seemed ...I don't know...tacked on?.....other than that the art's been beautiful and the story compelling

I've been outright loving it. It's a heartbreaking story, and it's beautiful to look at. My one gripe was the complete blackout of Peter's eyes on his mask in #2. What was up with that?

Yeah that was a little screwy.....and if you thought it was heartbreaking after 3.....well......hurry up dammit!!

I haven't had any complaints about Requiem, it's been an amazing story.

Yeah, it's been a good What If.

Esad Ribic is one of those artists who changes characters' costumes around however he likes. He did it to basically all of the Asgardians in the Loki mini-series, too. He also made Loki look like an ancient hag for some reason. But hey, at least this mini-series is out of continuity, so you've got an explanation for why Peter's costume is different.

I just finished the mini. Good stuff. I was waiting for the scene that would shake everything up and have Norrin live again. Obviously, it didn't happen, and I'm glad for it.

Yup was a little worried when Galactus said "I don't know if I can help you but I can try".......GREAT MINI!!

Maybe I'm too desensitized, but I didn't think it was all that great. It was a nice "The End" story and Ribic's art is beautiful as always, but that's about it.

I just finished it. It's pretty perfect.

People can compare this to Mouse Guard all they want, but when you actually sit down to read it, it's not the same story at all. This goes much deeper, and the mythology is magnificant. It draws from Norse as well as Celtic mythologies. The god of all gods is Wotan, one of many names of Odin. It's hinted that his form in this story is that of an owl and it makes more then enough sense to me. To a mouse, an owl is creature to be both feared and respected. But that's for future issues, I suppose...

This one's kicks off with the story of the fall of the Templar, a group of warrior mice sworn to uphold truth and protect all innocent life in the lands. At some point, there was a disagreement and the Templar warred with each other before apparently vanishing altogther. Even now, most mice do not even believe in their existence. We're intoduced to the main cast of Pilot the Tall, Karic, Deishun, Gabrielle and Leito. Deishun is the grizzled town blacksmith with Leito as his apprentice and Karic the friend of Leito. Gabrielle is also a childhood friend of Leito and Karic, who takes the role of Maeven (a female archer) when the three play Templar. The main story begins when Pilot, and old Templar veteran comes to town to warn of an impending rat raid. These rats are nasty. Oeming's design is amazing. Anyway, they've come to town looking for Deishun and like any good group of villians, they kill and burn anything in sight to find him.

I won't spoil the rest, but the ending is very good, and sets up the series perfectly. There's a lot carnage and a lot of blood in this title, which is more than a little jarring when it's pouring out of cute little mice. It's well worth the $4 (especially when you consider this debut issue features 50 pages of story, and virtually no ads). It's beautifully drawn and put togther.

Outside of trades, I usually don't wander too far off the Marvel Reservation, but all this talk has me intrigued. I never read Mouse Guard, but I did page through it at a bookstore once, and I liked it. I really like Oeming. I may have to drop by my LCBS and see if they still have one.....

I've also enjoyed SS:Requiem, and especially liked the exchange between him and Galactus. Even though it's not a "The End", it's easily the best of them.

Anyone pick up The Last Fantastic Four Story. Now I'm not big on going out of my way to criticize, especially two people who have done soooooo many great projects, BUT...

Every time Stan Lee writes something, I'm reminded how much time has passed him by. He seems stuck in the same timeloop that sucked in Chris Claremont. It's kind of interesting to see him work with modern day artists, but the plot devices that he used so well in the 60s just don't cut it anymore.

And JRJR.....This guy is easily one of my favorite artists in comics, and if I had to have a go-to guy for a project, he would be it. Period. There's a lot I didn't like about the issue, but I'll limit my criticism to this: That was hands down the worst, worst, worst Silver Surfer I have ever seen. And I mean Rob Liefeld bad.
