BOUGHT/THOUGHT for September 19, 2007

I agree. It's no secret that I loved the book, but I would also put it above MTU (even when it was at it's best) as Kirkman's best Marvel work. I know you're not holding your breath and you're probably wiser for it, but I have a feeling this book isn't done just yet. I'm going to hold out for just a little bit longer and see what Eric's exposure in A: TI does for him as well as the digest sales.

Certainly the A:TI isn't going to hurt matters and it will keep the character in the public eye. Limbo can literally be death to characters, something I actually agree with Bendis about (he mentioned it during interviews about his Hood revival, and to be fair he's saved a few characters from the dustbin, almost as many as he has sent to the morgue). I'm more of a realist than you sometimes, or rather, cynical. I wouldn't mind being wrong on this, though.

Thanks for the advice. Anything non-Bendis is suddenly better to me.

Anyway, I understand that about Sentry, but I've really not seem him used in any way that presented any sort of shred of being a character besides his crippling disabilities since he returned 3 years ago. It seems everyone just uses him as a plot device hero, where his rep seems better than his record.

I'd be more jazzed if Thor was the blond demigod off to save the world from Hulk instead of Sentry. Thor at least had a better excuse, being dead for a while. :)

Having Thor come to save the day would be great. It would really be more effective rather than the Sentry showdown people have been calling since the series started.

While I can't wait to see how Sentrys calming aura works on the Hulk, I have to agree that Thor will be sorely missed in WWH. Also the Juggernaut should have made an appearence in the main book instead of that crap we got in WWH X-Men.

Eh, not sure about Juggernaut, but yeah, Thor is missed. Guess he is busy rebuilding Asgard and getting on the "kick Iron Man's ass" bandwagon. ;)

Wow, didn't expect so may to agree with me.

I just think it's odd for Marvel, in interviews and in their actual books, to reference Runaways and Spider-Girl when talking about this book's cancallation. It makes me think there are plans for more. That's on thing Marvel has been pretty good about, with giving low selling titles a second shot to perform. Granted, it would've been nice to see that for The Thing, but whatever.

It would just be so sweet, having been dead and all.It would be his moment to look down on everyone and ask why everything has gone to hell.

But I do respect what JMS is doing in Thor right now having him regain his identity, his home and his friends before he goes off interacting with everyone.

Yeah. Although Slott has gone on to do better things since THE THING at least. That MCP story actually made me miss that title even more.

Marvel has given low sellers a shot but only if they have a justification or the digests/trades do well. Usually that happens when they fill some niche and hopefully Ant-Man does in that market.

I mean, Iron Fist was supposedly "hot ****" after CW and even with a name like Brubaker on the cover, his series is in danger of fading fast. The market can be very harsh these days.

And JMS' Thor debuted at #1 in July and still is in the Top 10 at #2, so obviously Marvel figures he is doing just peachy. But still, imagine the bang such a thing would bring Thor here. But, the road not taken.

IIF is one of those books that I have no idea why it's not selling. Brubaker's a top talent, Fraction's got indie cred, Aja's art is great; so why isn't it selling? Nevermind that the story is phenomenal and the character is a way cool. It's the creative team that sells books these days. So what the hell's wrong with this one?

Apparently interest in the character for the mainstreamers faded; Fraction's PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL in comparison has held steady despite some tie-in infusions.

It would be a shame to lose that book before we at least saw a third arc.

Yes, it really would. It's hard for me not go into a rant about fanboys and the comics they buy, so I'll just stop thinking about altogther. :cmad:

A lot of current readers' only exposure to Iron Fist may be New Avengers, too. Danny's got the personality of a rock in there, so maybe they're not anxious to try a whole series about him.

Gotcha.

Also true.

**** Bendis.

That about sums up my response.

Thor #1-3 - Very satisfied with adding this title to my list.I've heard complaints of not alot happening,I even groaned myself after skimming #1 way back when, but this is such a good book.Thor has a real commanding presence, just as a God should have. The townspeople are written really well and are not overly cliched.Haven't read any new JMS in a while, but I forgot how flawless he is with dialog. The Iron Man fight was effective and Thor's speech after the ownage was just perfect. The last page of #3 just spoke volumes.I hope JMS and Coipel stay on for a long time, lots of potential here.Any word on the length of their run?

Also,I hope at some point soon,we get to see Thor and Hulk's reaction to Cap's death. All we got from Hulk was a "...".Even seeing Thor at Cap's monument with a monologue would be nice.

I had chills down my spine hwen Tony is like "youve gotten stronger" and Thor just goes "no, im just not holding back." then he's talking all about how he's going to show tony what a real god of thunder can do.

Yeah, that was very cool. Whenever, IF ever Thor battles a villain, it should be sweet.

Thought:

Boldface for the ones I enjoyed most.

The Umbrella Academy: I didn't know the writer was from that band when I bought this (I don't listen to those mofos anyway) so it was just pure curiousity that got me to slap down my 3 bucks. I didn't waste my money. One of the letters in the back compares it to a mix of B.P.R.D., Perhapanauts and The Incredibles. I don't know about The Incredibles but I can kinda agree with the rest, plus a pinch of League of Extraordinary Gentleman and Nevermen. Just an off the wall wacky adventure. It's going on the pull list.

Captain America: Okay so after Bru and crew go to the trouble of giving Ironfist a decent costume they then turn around and put Falcon back in one of his crappy ones. Racists!!!!!:cmad: :cmad: :oldrazz:

I think we might see that SHIELD agent from a few issues ago again. The one who volunteered to be the new Cap...

Checkmate: I don't know if I somehow missed an issue (I don't think so) or stuff is happening in books I don't read or maybe since I read so many comics I'm just forgetting but...when the heck did Knockout die:huh: I wonder if we're going to see a Checkmate/Suicide Squad/Secret Six showdown...

Glad to see someone else got past Way's music and picked this up (even if you didn't know beforehand ;)). I can definitely see the BPRD comparison, but I'd throw some Lemony Snicket in there, too. Definitely my pick of the week.

Frost Giants, Dread. Frost Giants.
Yeah, they ought to get some of those back sometime. For the moment, it seems Thor's not into the whole fighting thing. Odd for a warrior god, but it makes sense in the context.

Yeah, but you know that when JMS does get to the battles, it's going to be hot ****.

I really hope Thor leads some Asgardians into battle against something when they start coming back. Have an Asgardian soul trapped in the body of a mobster and make the gods fight through some human goons with his pinkies, even. After this arc, the action dial's gotta get cranked up a notch.

They're mobsters. Better gods than the Punisher. At least the gods'll leave them alive and allow them to retain their pride.
