Bought//Thought March 07 2007.

I think I'm gonna drop USM until the space crap is over. But there are only two issues left. This Shi'ar space storyline is a piece of crap. Each issue is a bore.

do you mean "uncanny x-men"?

cause last time i checked, usm didn't have a space storyline. :cwink:

52 #44- A damn good issue! I'm soooo glad they didn't go with the stereotypical "NOOOOOO!" screaming at the sky shot after Isis' death. I totally didn't expect her to ask to be avenged as her last words, though.:o It was great to see BA kicking butt, but I'm also dreading his return to "the dark side" after what's happened. WW III here we come!

Civil War: The Initiative- Quite a few unexpected things here. In the Omega Flight section....I didn't remember Walter looking so dorky in his human form, but I guess it was used as a way to give more impact to his transformation. I haven't been keeping up with the OF stuff so if the Collective reveal had been spoiled it totally took ME by surprise. Quite a team they've built! The Thunderbolts were jerkier than in their own comic and I thought that was going to be almost impossible. Nice of Penenace to go on blabing about how his powers work, I know it's a narrative tool but it seemed totally out of place here. And the Spider Woman/Miss Marvel part...[ChandlerBing]Could it BE more *********ory material?![/ChandlerBing]:o I think I've never seen highlights used in such a suggestive manner before. Eye candy aside, it was a pretty cool story. Jarvis' comment about Tigra was awesome!

Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears #2- I thought Travis was going to become the Ghost Rider, but apparently he isn't. I'm liking this story a whole lot although this second issue is mostly a set up for the rest of the series. I know that Ennis is famous for how gruesome he can be, but I have to say that the Dragwells' corpses were disturbing. It's probably standard fare for Ennis fans but to me it was like watching a Pinhead movie.

JLofA #6- DAMN! You could almost squeeze this issue and blood would drip out!:wow: For a comic company that is usually referred to as the "tamer" one, DC has been pretty free with the dismemberments and the red stuff flying everywhere! I'm not much of a JLA fan but this was a good issue. I especially liked Vixen pwning Amazo. I'm very intrigued as to what's happening with Geo-Force and hope that DC isn't making "loony" characters a standard on each team; Starman in JSofA is one thing, but whatever is happening with Brion is really weird. I was kinda let down that Reddy got his robot body back, I was looking forward to his exploration of his new human condition.

Uncanny X-Men #484- As always, when the comic doesn't concentrate on Vulcan the story flows at a beautiful pace. As if DC's ketchup bursting antics weren't enough in a couple of it's comics, now a couple of X-Men start killing "because it's war". I can understand the Starjammers and the Cloud wannabe, but the rest of them?.......There was a time when Kurt would have chewed Rachel's ear out for killing as wantonly as she was, but I guess they'll use the heat of the battle as an excuse. Some of the stuff that happens I guess we're supposed to take as plot twists but since it's stuff that was never revealed before it doesn't have much of an impact. Still, they make for interesting plot points. Lorna raping Alex makes it all worthwile. :p

Damn right. Dynamo 5 was great

That's the spirit.

Ironically, between that and INVINCIBLE, in some ways I can get a better superhero fix at Image than at Marvel or DC. Imagine that! Image getting classic superheroes right! No way you could've said that a decade ago. Or even 5 years ago.

Yeah I meant Uncanny X-Men. It's been boring the pants off me. But I haven't been able to pick up the latest issue. The only good thing is is Rachel looks hot.

(Sorry)

Boring the pants off of you? GET HIM SOME MORE UNCANNY!!:o

dynamo 5 #1- i picked this one today after reading some good things about it here on the hype. i thought it was good. it certainly is not the best thing i've ever read, but it's a cool concept, and jay executed it pretty well, and asrar's art reminds of stuart immonen's style circa shockrockets (anyone remember that one?).

the last page certainly came as a surpirse, and i suppose the book did it's job seeing as how i'll be picking up the next few issues to see where this is going.

doctor strange #4-5 - one of the best dr. strange stories i've ever read. the real shame is that it's just a mini. maybe by some amazing twist of fate, marvel will see the light and offer it up to bkv and martin as an ongoing. i like how in the end, the book's title "the oath" really applied to both strange's oath to his patients, as well as wong's oath to his master. and i LOVE the idea of night nurse setting up shop in the sanctum sanctorum.

the only thing that bothered me was the kiss. isn't strange still married to clea, or has that been retconned? i suppose with any other writer we'd all be screaming about continuity and calling for murder, but bkv wrote sucj a great story that it comes off as a minor error.

As far as I know, Clea is still lost in the Darkforce dimension, but nobody really knows.

So 2 comics is all that it takes?

There could be more that I missed.

There's also FRESHMEN II.

Whereas a lot of Marvel comics treat superhero genre expectations as a cliche to be obliterated. MIGHTY AVENGERS #1 at least was a step in the right direction after CW. Now if only a villian could be the focus of a major Marvel event (like Annihilus in ANNIHILATION).

You guys have gone on about how great and Invincible-ish Dynamo 5 is that I just had my store reserve me a copy which I'll pick up tomorrow.

:yay:

DYNAMO 5 #1 seemed to be selling out around my area, too. JIM HANLEY'S UNIVERSE, a major comic book store across from the Empire State Building, was out of it, too. I had to reserve the last copy of it from my LCS in Brooklyn. The buzz on it was good thanks to Newsarama so hopefully it's debut did well for an Image book. And "did well for an Image Book" means "possibly made the Top 100, even if at #100." ;)

Mighty Avengers #1 was the only book I bought this week. No point putting up a review, I'll just say that it wasa great read.

I wasn't so impressed with Mighty Avengers. Mostly because I don't give two diarrhea s**ts about any of the characters besides Iron Man.

Umm, the word balloon thing was OK, at least the book has something unique going for it. Not thrilled with Cho's art, mostly due to how he draws Iron Man.

Didn't really like the conversation between Tony & Carol while picking the team. I mean, the conversation was OK, it flowed and everything. I just didn't like that when they were discussing "best Avengers ever" they actually said Wonder Man was the best.:whatever:

What's his deal anyway? Why is he in his outdated, terrible costume. Can't he fly? I thought he could fly. But no, Sentry carries him into battle. Whatever.

I did not enjoy Mighty Avengers. The characters were off, the action wasn't entertaining and Ms. Ultron was just lame.

Ok, so I've downloaded Captain America #25. It was good, and I'm looking forward to the next issue.

But the latest issue of Hulk was harder hitting. Seriously, it's so much sadder.

Hulk was so happy in this issue. I've never seen him fit in so well. He's never had a woman for himself. And when she announced she was "with child", man! That nearly set me off. And then, at the end of the issue. That damn ship and its warp core blew up! Definately harder hitting than Captain America #25.

Everyone seemed to have gotten lost in the whole Captain America death, I though I'd review some smaller books that seemed to have fallen through the cracks.

Criminal #5-Ed "I killed Captain America" Brubaker had another book out this week, and it was equally as good, if not better. I always thought Brubaker was at his best when he's criting crime dramas with noirish feels to it. Criminal has been a standout book IMO, and really has shown what the ICON line can do if developed further.

Issue #5 end the first arc of Criminal as the "Coward" storyline draws to a close. Throughout the last issues we've seen Leo portrayed as someone with a precise set of rules he has to follow for each job. He's protrayed as a coward because he runs in the face of danger. But now, we know why. What Brubaker does so beautifully here is, that we know he's been hiding something all along, something that made him the way he is. And what he really is hiding is his true self. A violent, beats of a man who doesn't run from danger, but seeks it out.

Sean Phillips really does some great work here setting the mood here. And a lot of praise needs to go out to the colorist for setting that dark mood, even in the middle of the afternoon. The violence is protrayed beautifully and the action speaks volumes for itself. An all around great job by all involved.

Criminal is a book you got to look forward to every month. You can always expect quality work and an overall entertaining read. You gotta love a book that can make you feel good about cheering for big time crooks and heroin addicts. And a book where the good guys win, but also lose at the same time.

Jonah Hex #17- Jonah Hex, one of the best books on the stand today, hands down. I mean, at least for me, I love me a good western and this book always delivers. Palmiotti and Gray are just writing one of the best comics today on this book, and now couple with Phil Noto's art for these issues, damn, this is one solid book.

#17 is the tail end of the Tallulah Black storyline. A woman that has been to hell and back and is out for some revenge. Its fun to see Jonah training someone, especially a woman in the art of killing, including a funny scene where they use a horse thief as practice dummy for her new found skills. Jonah is still the cold hearted bastard we know and love and he really does not give a damn about anybody.

Noto's art is spectacular, and I wish that he would stay on the book longer as his art is the best on the book sicne Luke Ross left. Its like every page is a painting I can hang in my living room. Its just simply beautiful.

If you're not buying Jonah Hex, something is wrong with you. I know a lot of people don't like westerns, but honestly, its worth a look over, who knows maybe you'll like it.

cripes I hate to come late for the darthphere love fest but your reviews have been quite excellent this month.
