From the frontpage news:

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) will play the lead role in Dead of Night, which is based on SAF Comics' best-selling horror comic book series "Dylan Dog," created by Tiziano Sclavi and first published in Italy by Sergio Bonelli Editore.

The movie will be directed by David R. Ellis, who started his career as a stuntman and in recent years has directed such movies as Final Destination 2, Cellular and Snakes on a Plane. The screenplay was written by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly.

The "Dylan Dog" movie, which is being produced by Arclight Films in Los Angeles, has a budget of $35 million. Principal photography is planned to start soon on locations in Connecticut.

Dylan Dog's graphic representation was inspired by English actor Rupert Everett. Dylan Dog is a penniless nightmare investigator who defies the whole preceding horror tradition with a vein of surrealism and an anti-bourgeois rhetoric. The true monsters in many of these stories are human beings.

I've read wef Dylan Dog stories, and they were very lovely little stories. I'm hyped. :yay:

I've read the two issues that have published in Finnish and liked those very much. I was glad to hear about this project, but the director doesn't do it for me. I've only seen SOAP from him and that was meh.

I kinda like Brandon Routh as Dylan but he's not british. I hope he can do the accent. Unless they plan to americanize DD. :csad:

If this turns out to be success they should adapt other Bonelli stuff into movies too, like Dampyr (Goran Visnjic!) and Brendon (Cillian Murphy!).

I really have no faith in David R. Ellis.

At last Routh is doing a movie! lol

I've never heard of the comics, but I'm liking the premise. I have to agree with Rac about David Ellis, though. As for the writers, I liked Sahara for what it was, but couldn't sit through Sound of Thunder. Although the latter had more to do with terrible special effects than writing.

I'm not so hyped anymore, because Dylan Dog is sopose to be british, which Brandon Routh is not. And since Dog's look is based on English actor Rupert Everret, WHY NOT CAST RUPERT EVERRET?! Sure, he's not in his 20's, but not too old for Dylan. And the director is pretty mediocre if not bad - if you look at his previous movies. Dammit!

Brandon Routh is a bad choice because he's not british?:whatever:

y'know this may be a suprise but a lot of american actors fake english accents and a lot of them do good, plus Brandon Routh looks EXACTLY like Dylan even though Dylan was based on Ruper Everett.

But yeah I agree this dirctor sucks, not because he cast Brandon Routh in the role but because he's just a bad director.

No, Routh is not bad choise because he's not british. I just have serious doubts about his ability to convey english accent, that's all. And if they make Dylan america, then this movie can go to hell for all I care. They fcked up Constantine too you know.

From what I've seen a lot of American actors aren't very good with accents. Whereas Brits and Aussies, mostly, can do American accents flawlessly.

Awww, is this another example of they didnt follow the comic source to the tee../dabs his eyes from the tears of all things comics.
Just one of those things, the gonna cast who they wanna cast no matter. So,what ur saying its okay to cast british, aussie, etc for an american part but not the otherway around??
Far as constantine, I really like Keanue Reeves as Constatine think he did a good job. If they really wanted a British actor they should of gotten Daniel Craig, but /shrug...

They can change the little known chracters if they want. That doens't bother me. But the big guys like Superman and Batman, they have to leave alone and not change.

Ehh, no. I'm not saying it's okay to cast british etc, but not other way around. I'm saying I have doubts about Routh's ability to do the english accent- if Dylan stays british in this movie.
Far as Constantine, it wasn't the Constantine I'm familiar with. It was crap and even Daniel Craig couldn't have save it.

since only ten people have heard of dylan dog they can take liberties with the character

Rupert has played Dylan Dog before........ Kinda.

They say that the character Rupert plays in the movie "Cemetery Man" is based on Dylan Dog. Not sure how but I've read that alot when reading about that movie.

Yeah, don't care about rest of the world 'cause the rednecks don't know the character. :whatever:
