Just saw last night's episode. ****, that was intense.
After 5 whole seasons of seeing Walt's transformation from Walter White to Heisenberg, Heisenberg has now completely taken over.
There were two reasons as to why Walt got in the meth business: Walter White's reason and Heisenberg's reason. Walter White's reason was to provide to his family while Heisenberg's reason had to do with his ego and to grow in the "empire business". As the show progressed, we saw Walter White's reasons for doing what he does become smaller and smaller while Heisenberg's reasons became bigger and bigger.
The call Walt made to Jr. made him realize that it was truly game over, as Saul said. His family completely rejected him and there was no reason to keep on going, which is why he called the DEA to come and arrest him. Walter White has failed, and he was able to recognize that.
After that, Cranston's character is in a neutral state for a few minutes - the state that occurs before the rebirth of something/someone. Seeing his life's two greatest creations - Grey Matter Tech and Blue Sky - being taken from him just like that is what brings the ego in him out. What fully brings Heisenberg out.
When he first started cooking in episode 1, his
only reason for doing what he does was to provide for his family. Now his
only reason for going back is to put an end to those who are getting rich off his life's work.
I know everyone probably already discussed all this by now, but felt like sharing nonetheless.
