Captain Marvel Brie Larson is Captain Marvel!

This is how I imagine it would work in live action:

And it having a sleek design aesthetic like this:

Mockup with proper colors:

Now if only I had the software to photoshop Brie's mouth on it.

All i'm asking for is variety.

I remember someone (Feige??) talking about selecting the actor to play CM. He said that they kept in mind that she would have to share screen time with RDJ. I don't remember the exact quote, but I took it to mean that they needed someone who could go toe to toe with him. They got that person.

Feige was talking about the quality of the actors in the MCU. He remarked that he set such a high bar by casting RDJ as IM, that whoever Marvel casts as Carol Danvers would have to match, or maybe even in this case, exceed that bar.

Like I said, your standard issue, white, middle class, suburban family. :o

Watched a few more episodes and loved the way they ended. It's funny and Brie is really, really good. Love the son too. It must be fun for Toni to play all those characters. Actors don't always get afforded those sorts of opportunities. I don't put it in the same class as Orphan Black and Tatiana and no one else should either because I don't like it when people threaten my bebes. :cwink:
Yeah, I like to consider what Toni did in that show (which she won an Emmy for, btw) to be sort of a "precursor" to what Tatiana does now on Orphan Black. She paved the way with her bold performance, and Tatiana just built on that and took it to another level. But yeah the kids (both Brie and the son) are actually my favorite characters on the show. They had the most interesting arcs, imo.

Started reading the Captain Marvel vol. 1 graphic novel that Brie was pictured with and familiarizing myself with her backstory. Holy **** is her history crazy! I can't help but wonder what direction Marvel is going to take with her origin. Seems like a lot of different areas to explore.

She's kinda like Wonder Woman regarding her origin. It's not straightforward like everybody else's.

This video tells us how they are going to handle her origin in Infinity War:

Captain Marvel is like Captain America on ten cups of coffee
:hehe:

Well, that sums up her character pretty well, doesn't it. :o

But seriously, nice video. I mean, the guy doesn't actually tell us anything that we didn't already know, but he does raise some good questions and offers some interesting solutions. As I have already said in the past, I definitely agree with him that the source of Carol's powers will most likely be the Infinity Stones, it'd just make perfect sense imho.

The loss of Yon-Rogg and the Kree would be pretty sad but hey, that's why they're called adaptations, I guess. I'd really prefer it if they included them though.

If they take away Carol's link to the Kree, then you take away what makes the character so unique: A very human character with strong ties to the cosmic side of the MCU. If Marvel has no plans on using the Kree, then there really is no point in having her movie in the middle of Infinity War. No point in having to wait until 2019 to see her movie. In fact, it would make more sense to replace Captain Marvel with Nova to expand the cosmic side of the MCU, if the cosmic side of Carol Danvers were ignored or simply replaced with(IMO) the very lazy idea of Captain Marvel getting her powers from an infinity stone. Considering that Marvel wants to deviate from whatever has done before and keep Carol's origin fresh and original, I can't see Marvel going with the Infinity Stone route. There's a reason why the only characters who have gotten their powers from infinity stones don't have their own movie and aren't lead characters. Captain Marvel will have her own movie. I'd like to see Marvel put some time and hard work in developing a unique origin story.

Correction, it tells us how they might. I dislike fan theories masquerading as news or scoops.
Ditto.

I'll be very surprised if they remove the Kree connections. Using the Kree just seems like the perfect (and most organic) way to tie the whole MCU together. I mean, as of now it seems like they've been planting the seeds for it, so it would be a shame to not carry it out now. Feige described her story as the bridge between the Cosmic and Earthbound MCU, and the Infinity Gems have already been on Earth and the cosmic realm for ages (and giving people powers on Earth already), so it doesn't seem like he would have been referring to them as the connective tissue with that statement.

Is that what that guy is doing though? It seems to me he's just offering his own opinion.

EDIT: I mean, after rewatching the video he kinda seems to be making some weird baseless assumptions, but still, I don't think he's trying to pass them as news.

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree with you on this (except for the gems part... I really wouldn't mind that, as long as the result is still infusing her with Kree DNA. How that would work, I don't know, and it's not my job to figure it out anyway :o). I definitely hope they manage to include Mar-Vell and the Kree in her origin story, I'm just... you know, preparing for the worst. :hehe:

I know they will change something, it's just a matter of what it will be.

Nice comparison. That's already pretty close to how her mask works in the comics... except hers is even more, uh, scifi-ish looking.

If they take away Carol's link to the Kree...

What if Carol is basically Mar-Vel?

Rather than being inspired by Mar-Vel, getting powers, and picking up his mantle, she is the Kree officer who spies on Earth, infiltrates the US Air Force and ultimately defends humanity?

Or since the writers think her original origin is 'too much like Green Lantern', would they think changing it to that is ultimately too much like Martian Manhunter's?

Would that do the opposite of what your afraid of, ruin her link to humanity or would having a solo film with, as an alien developing an affinity for Earth be sufficient enough in creating that link?

I wasn't really referring to the video but more the way it was presented here and several other threads as "This is how Captain Marvel will tie into Infinity War" as though it were actual news.

I'd like them to stick to the storyline as much as possible. CM and DS have terrific origin stories. Why fix something that isn't broken?

Kevin Feige already confirmed that Carol would be from earth. He said(and I'm paraphrasing here) that "her origins would be on Earth" but that "the source of her powers and her adventures would be in the cosmic realm".

That makes sense to me.

I also just had something occur to me: The Russo's ~accidentally~ confirmed Captain Marvel was in "Infinity War" about 2 months ago, at that Smithsonian event. But at the time, we weren't sure if they meant "Part 1" or not. Now there's only one "Infinity War" (and probably was at that time as well). And it's the movie we formerly knew as "Infinity War: Part 1." Just sayin. :woot:

I don't expect to see Captain Marvel in Infinity War. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we do, but right now I am thinking we will see Brie Larson as an Air Force officer or astronaut known as Carol Danvers.

No doubt. If the character does show up in Infinity War, it will just be as Carol Danvers and not Captain Marvel. Her origin story will be told in her solo film.

This is exactly what I'm hoping for.

The most natural way to introduce her.

I think that's what people mean. The CM movie falls between the "old" IW1 and 2. Carol in 1 and CM in 2. IW2 could be epic. Color me stoked (already).

And there you have it folks. The excitement with Brie being is dying down a bit and it looks like we're back to talking about the same things over and over again.

That dog is itching to get back on that Mary go-round.

This is what happens when a movie based on a beloved geek property is announced with so much advance. The long wait paired with the insufferable but inevitable lack of news makes us fans restless... and eventually, it turns us paranoic.

But seriously, those Marvel Studios' line-up announcements are fun and all but they really do have their downsides.

I was gonna say she might be an agent of SHIELD but then I remembered SHIELD doesn't exist anymore as far as the movies are concerned.

Well according to AoS, SHIELD is reinstated in the wake of the Sokovia Accords and Hydra being [more or less] defeated
whether or not this ever gets a mention on film, i do not know

Infinity War will be her origin. She will get her powers near the end of the movie. She will then call herself Captain Marvel in her own movie and start using her powers to fight bad guys.
