Captain Marvel Brie Larson is Captain Marvel!

While I do agree with Flickchick that the 2014-15 series is better, I think the 2012-13 one is also worth checking out (the art for one is great!... sometimes. Sometimes it's really not XD). If I were you I'd definitely try reading both, but if you are forced to choose then yeah, go with the 2014 one. They're both written by the same author by the way.
I'll second this! While I prefer the 2014 run because I'm always partial to space adventures, the more Earthbound 2012 one is a fun read too. And I agree about the art. Dexter Soy is my favorite Captain Marvel artist to date. I wish he had done the whole run.

I hope Brie reads some of the older stuff too. I really enjoyed Brian Reed's run. While I enjoy the current run, she's just not as fun of a character that she used to be. Sometimes I think Marvel plays up the military angle a bit too much.

And for God's sake, can someone warn her about Civil War 2? I hope her character isn't ruined by the time the dust settles.

^ She should totally read imho.
"So wait... I thought I signed on to play the hero?" :o

He's not my favorite, but he sure is a close second. He did draw what is probably the most badass Captain Marvel of them all, though; I love how in some panels she even made her look downright scary, especially when she had her helmet on.

And that's something that so rarely happens with superheroines (and ironically, even villainesses) that I can't help but appreciate it when someone finally does it.
Plus his art is just great in general. Even his Absorbing Man looked cool. Absorbing Man.

Ahem. Ok, I guess that's enough random gushing for today.

Ha, I think you and I have discussed before how we have totally polar opposite opinions on Brian Reed's vs. KSD's versions of Carol. But one thing we can totally agree on is that they need to keep Brie the hell away from Civil War 2. :cwink:

And Abudefduf, I'm totally on board with your Dexter Soy gushing. :D

I actually liked the first Captain Marvel volume, right up to the mind wipe. Her second volume started off pretty strong, but then it seems KSD just list interest and making filler issues. I mean who cares about Carol having to rescue her cat? With the exception Enemy Within, Carol hasn't had any memorable arcs in a while. I'm hoping that will change with Margaret Stohl when Carol's book gets launched again. Sadly, it seems she's not interested in anything pre-KSD. I don't think that history should be ignored.

As far as Civil War 2, I'm not very happy. But, I'm hoping things will turn out for the best. I still have a bit of hope that Bendis won't completely ruin her.

I'm still waiting for Carol to show up in that really bad animated series, Avengers: Ultron Revolution. They introduced Kamala, but not Carol. Stephen Wacker and the rest of Marvel Animation needs to get their head out of their ass.

Well it's Bendis, so I can't say I have much hope in that regard. :oldrazz:

I loved the cat storyline. Who can pass up the line "I'm going to get my Flarkin Cat." It felt like they spent several issues setting up that joke.

With the exception Enemy Within, Carol hasn't had any memorable arcs in a while.

I felt like the opening arc to Butters and Fazekas run had potential to make a deep impact on the Captain Marvel mythology. It had a potential to explore the original Captain Marvel's legacy and Carol's connection to it and whether Mar-Vell is truly someone to hero worship. And then, nothing happened. And then the writers left. And then Civil War II happened. It felt like it was all a waste.

I loved that storyline too, tbh. I was disappointed that they only did shorter arcs after the "Higher, Further, Faster, More" story, but I still enjoyed those shorter arcs quite a bit. Still, hopefully Margaret Stohl has a good longer arc planned for her run. She is a novelist, after all.

My feelings exactly. I really thought that arc was going somewhere interesting, then it seemed to be resolved as it was just getting started to make way for Civil War II. Highly disappointing. I did enjoy the relationship between Carol and Abigail Brand, though. I'd like to see that continue.

That needs to be the poster.

The poster is cool. Not so sure about the suit though. I kind of just looks like one of the Star Trek Voyager/ early DS9 jumpsuits.

I don't want to feel that the rest of the MCU are just hanging out with one of the crew members from an old Star Trek series.

Gonna have to disagree with ya there. That doesn't look anything like one on the Voyager/DS9 Trek suits... like... at all. Enlarge the image and see if you still think so. This suit is more metal and leather looking than anything else. Also, you should probably try to keep an open mind in regard to the suit... We've got a while to go yet before we see anything official and I'm already seeing a ton of people on multiple forums complaining about the things the suit "absolutely CANNOT be" or "absolutely MUST be" in order for them to be happy with it.

No "maybe" about it, this is without question my most anticipated CBM on anyone's upcoming slate. :woot:

The looking forward to Captain Marvel Brigade:

Watched Room. She's absolutely wonderful. Fantastic choice, Marvel.

And OutOfBoose, I second Darth's recommendation of Short Term 12. Fantastic film AND performance. She was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award and the Critics' Choice, but she should've gotten an Oscar nod for it as well, imo.

I absolutely will. Thanks for the recommendation. :)

You're welcome. Be on the lookout for Brie's baseball bat scene. It's a nice little preview of how well Brie can pull off displaying physical anger.

By the way, is there any consensus what haircut we want her to sport?

Mohawk, long hair, short hair?

I think most of us would prefer that Carol have long hair for the MCU. Having said that, Brie can definitely rock the short hair with style... As seen below. As long as she looks cool, I'm good.

^I dig that. Short hair or something like this:

Shaved temples would be pretty cool too. It adds "military" feel, as well as some options. Like french braid, ponytail or she can just leave it loose.

If Carol is still in the military in the MCU, and I see no reason why she wouldn't be, her hair will most likely be long and pulled up when we first meet her. What she does with it after that is anyone's guess. I have a feeling they'll just incorporate her classic long Ms. Marvel hair into her Captain Marvel look.

Suit looks like something that would fit well with the Guardians of the Galaxy aesthetic to me...
