Sequels Bryan Singer would love to return to X-Men universe

I'd like to see Scott alive

It'd be an interesting idea for X4 if Professor new all along Scott wasn't dead, but let everyone think that so that Logan would be the one to kill Jean, as Scott wouldn't have it in him to do it... Prof. X is sneaky I'd love to see a film where the X-men start to loose trust in him, as he seemingly has less trust in his own X-Men to make the right decisions... withholding bits of Logan's true past, tampering w/ Jean's alter ego.. plus I think he knew Jean was going to kill him, thus already knew his next move-send his consciusness to the most capable person he knew... Moira. Who knows what else he could be hiding

If Cyclops doesn't return I will stay away from this series for good.

This is a sequel to X3 and it would be odd for them to completely ignore the Xavier storyline they set up

Magneto does have to be involved in some capacity but not as a teacher in the school.

Maybe they will, maybe they won't, who can say at this stage?

Yes. those ideas crossed my mind too.

Would a mainstream audience and critics handle all this retconning?

How is it retconning to bring back a character that hasn't been shown deceased on film. It was very suggestive and one would easily assume but it's not too much of a stretch . This is sci-fi and alot could be done.

I think if a film containing a retcon is good and the writing for the retcon is good, most people won't think much about the retcon. Besides, X3 ended with somewhat of a retcon. And the possibility of retcons in the sequel.

The dark Professor X concept is kind of interesting, but I knew a lot of non-comic reading fans who viewed Patrick Stewart's Professor X as a fatherly figure. They didn't like the fact that X3 painted him as somewhat of a jerk since it felt like a violation of their vision of the character. So it would be interesting to see the mainstream audience reactions if the movies headed even further down that path. Of course, comic reading fans know that the Professor was never that squeaky clean, even in the old 60s comics when he was manipulating the memories of everyone, including the X-Men's families, to keep the X-Men a secret. He does things for what he considers to be the greater good like Magneto does.

I think you've got to be careful with all this retconning.

I'm inclined to think Jean and Cyclops should stay dead. Cyclops will hopefully get to shine in First Class (and any subseqent sequels, they're probably aiming for a trilogy).

I also think Xavier should stay out of the picture in an X4, maybe appearing in an X5.

Magneto should be omitted from X4 or, if he has to be there, he could be a teacher at the school. Both he and Storm hated the idea of the cure, it could produce an interesting dynamic, as they dealt with it very differently.

I'd like to have seen Emma Frost, but as she was rescued by Xavier in Wolverine, she's likely to be in First Class.

X4 Villains: Sinister or Apocalypse or Hellfire Club

For X5: Shadow King or Proteus...(allows Xavier to return to the fray)

Singer would be fine, but would prefer adding a good executive producer more experienced at action and at making maximum use of the budget without frittering it away. Singer's budgetary control appears a little lax at times but just look what exec producing by Jackson got out of the District 9 budget and what exec producing by Spielberg got out of the Transformers budget.

To be honest I would just like Scott to return and Wolverine not be Wolvi-clop's anymore, I would want him to return to the character of X1 and X2.

Xavier was set up with X3 so you cant really ignore it in X4, it would have to be addressed in some way IMO.

Dont think Fox would allow an executive producer like Spielberg or Jackson into the fray to be honest, they would probably be people who wouldnt like Fox meddling so dont know if they would allow it.

If they announced Neill Blomkamp as Director of X4 with Jackson producing though, my brain would explode, District 9 is one of the best films I have seen in years.

Well, perhaps the best solution would be a two-parter, an X4 and X5 shot together and released not too far apart, then it wouldn't seem like quickly bringing back all these characters and trying to take the story forward with new ones as well.

The challenge with the X-Men is always the number of characters - and introducing new ones is difficult if all the existing ones are still around, as the number of characters is then increasing all the time. Some have to be omitted or marginalised in order to introduce new blood to the franchise.

I guess we could leave out Beast, Angel, Mystique, keep Jean dead. Would love to leave out Wolverine, but i doubt they would do it.

But that still leaves Cyclops (and the plotline of bringing him back, it can't just happen in a flash), Magneto, Xavier, Moira, Storm, Rogue, Colossus, Kitty, Iceman. I doubt we will get Cyclops though, we are more likely to get Cable.

Could Kitty and Colossus be written out as having gone to England (to be part of X-Calibur, maybe a future spin-off, it could include Nightcrawler as he was a member too)?

Bryan Singer was at Hugh's new play on Broadway a few weeks ago, so maybe they've been having some discussion about it recently?

I'd love it if they got Singer back with X-Men.

I'd be very pleased if Singer came back, but I think he'll probably direct Wolverine 2. You can tell from X1 and 2 that he's always wanted to make a Wolverine film.

X-Men: First Class needs a good directer like Singer, but I think it should go in a slightly different direction.

I'd love for him to direct Magneto.

I'd love to see him tackle Wolverine. The set pieces and flashbacks in the X-Movies alone were a lot more exciting than the entirety of the Origins Movie.

Christopher McQuarrie is writing Wolverine 2 and he wrote the script for Singer's The Usual Suspects. I could happen.

He also wrote Valkyrie too. I'm definitely hoping for this.

I think they could... I mean because Cyclop's death wasn't shown it could , and the Prof. has shown how secretive (it'd be no shock if he lied to his X-Men so they'd do what he wanted... in fact I think the audience likes the duality of the X-Men, most characters aren't 1-D and by extension more realistic, even in their fantasy world) ---Mystique was thought to be dead in X1, but they made it work be showing she disguised herself as a guard

In retrospect... I think a mainstream audiene would've been confused if the X-Men Game was made into a film and Lady D was back alive, they'd be like "didn't Wolverine pump her full of adamantium" or Jean Grey (we see Logan stab her)... though I think if they'd used a "Phoenix force angle" or something instead of "split personality" it would've been easier to bring her back to life, but w/e

What about Ang Lee for Wolverine 2? He's done comic book (Hulk) and he's done Japanese martial arts (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon). Sounds like a good combination to me.

For Magneto: How about Jonathan Mostow? He did good with Surrogates: human drama + great action. Or Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) - Forster is Swiss-German so has affinity with European/German vibe, Quantum showed he can do revenge stories and kinetic action, even if Quantum was a bit soulless overall.

For First Class: Singer or Alfonso Cuaron (he has done action in Children of Men and also schoolkid fantasy in Harry Potter)

For X-Men 4: Singer (bring in Sinister/Sentinels/Apocalypse)

Thoughts?

I remember reading somewhere a while ago before singer left the x-men series, sometime during x-men 2, he was interested in doing the young x-men, a prequel to the x-men series... He would be the right person to do it.

Fox agreed to co-finance and distribute Spielberg's Harvey remake -- while Rothman may like meddling with new or untested directors, he's no fool when it comes to James Cameron or Steven Spielberg.

And given how crushingly bad Wolverine was, I'd give anything to have Singer back for an X-Men encore. He does keep the characters grounded better than Gavin Hood did.

Great news all around!!!

I hope the productions come back to Vancouver. :D

The problem with Wolverine is that it lacked any actual themes. Even X3 based it's marketing campaign about taking stands. I'd love it if Bryan came back although I'd rather have anyone direct if they can tie up and gag Rothman & Donner in a cellar.

I think it would be good to see Singer back, and he did make characters more grounded, but people should remember his movies weren't perfect and it won't all be exactly like the comics.

Someone posted a comment on my blog saying: "Yes, he should come back but people should remember that it was under Singer's leadership that we had a vulnerable Rogue, a boyish Cyclops, an alpha male Wolverine, a Halle Berry Storm and many other changes that people moaned about like hell at the time..."

Having said that, there is a poll on my blog in which 80 per cent of people want him back so far. It will be interesting to see the final result on that poll. (The link is in my sig if you want to take part in it)

I wouldn't mind him coming back for X-Men 4 or Wolverine 2 but between the two I would rather he did Wolverine 2 because I think it would be a better fit. Or maybe Fox could do something crazy and let him do his X3, though I doubt that will ever happen.

I've already resigned myself to never being as into the X-flicks as everyone else on the internet. The X-men films were atleast decent so as long as he stays away from Superman, I say bring him back.
