Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 2

He was raised in a hell dimension! What's Dawn's excuse? she has happy memories of a life being the kid sister to Buffy! Connor with happy memories is a cool nice fellow.

Maybe the fact that she found out her whole life as she knew it was a lie? That she isn't a real person and was created by monks? She has plenty of "excuses".

Dawn was way more likeable than Connor ever was.

But Dawn was allways a prick, even before she found that out, Connor behaved as he did strictly due to being raised in a hell dimension by somebody who hated Angel, what did you expect? And what did he become once he got some time to know more about the world and to have a decent childhood? He became a nice guy, even after his memories came back, he was still not a rebel about his past.

She acted the way more teens do, so nothing new there.
Connor was just not likeable, ever IMO.

Maybe he was not likeable for you, lol.

I didn't like him either. First off he had this weird homoerotic fixation with his dad and then he actually gets it in with his would-be girlfriend. He just rubbed me the wrong way all around.

And for most people. I've heard more people dislike him than like him.
Like someone's said, he became likeable when all his memory was wiped and basically became someone else.
I also like him in the current comics.

Also yeah, getting it on with possessed cordy who was like... Basically him
Mom, was gross.

Most people also dislike Dawn, yet you find her likeable, does their hate for Connor and not Dawn count?

I'm well aware Dawn is not a popular character, thanks. I do find Dawn had more likeable qualities than Connor did.
I think people give the character Dawn more crap than Connor.

Also, besides them both being teens, they're two completely different characters, so I don't see the comparison. Nor do I think I need to explain why I like one and not the other.

It's totally cool if you like Connor and dislike Dawn. Totally fine. I'm just saying that the character gets too much flack for being a mouthy teenager when that's exactly what her character was supposed to be and how real teenagers act.
They did more stuff with Connor that bugged me than with what they did with Dawn.

I wasn't the one who started the comparison, and they're usually compared because both are surprise new characters, related by blood with their respective show's main character and both are possibly the most hated characters inside the fandom.

I didn't mind any, just think that Connor's writting made more sence, considering everything the character had gone through.

Dawn's mother died and she found out she wasn't even a real thing and not really related to anyone in her life. I think that what she did throughout her character run made equal amounts of sense to what Connors did, maybe even moreso.

Her character was annoying way before those events.

I think my finding Connor less likable has more to do with Vincent Kartheiser's performance than with the writing. I love him now on Mad Men, but I hated his acting choices as Connor. Sometimes when I felt like he was supposed to be coming off somewhat cold and/or sociopathic, he instead came across bratty to me. It bugged.

I don't know of another character on television that I hate as much as Conner.

Again, teenage girl... Many little thing can make a teen go into fits of rage.
She also found out about all that stuff fairly quickly from when she was first introduced.
13 episodes to find out she was the key, and there was already weird stuff going on in her life leading up to said event in episode 2... So it wasn't really way before.
Trachtenberg did so well in that role because she was annoying. Exactly how she was supposed to be.

Just because that is how she is suppose to be, does not mean that people wouldnt find her annoying.

I hated him as well but to be fair he finally became likeable in his final episode as a regular. Too bad that only happened just as they were writing him off

I personally didn't like how no one would call Dawn out on her ******** or at least tell her to shut up except for Willow, and that was when she was in her dark mode.

Yeah I found her unbearable at first. But after the Body I started to like her because you could see she was just a sad little girl.

I'm not saying she wasn't. She was. I'm just saying that it wasn't for nothing. Her mom was also sick at the time and she was adjusting to living with a big sister who was do bugged by her.
And then of course after everything happens, you just can't help but feel bad for her.

Connor on the other hand, was just a little ****. I do think a lot of it has to do with Vincent's acting though.

I'm not saying that Connor was likeable either, just that he too had good reasons to act the way he did, if not more so than Dawn.

Since these are both franchises owned by Fox, I am surprised that the Predator was never sent to Sunnydale for a visit. This could have been a potentially intriguing rivalry, carried on with several episodes. It would be interesting to see the Predator frustrated and Buffy pushed to her limits by this strange new foe that is not supernatural.

(side note- do the Alien movies exist in the Buffyverse? Joss Whedon wrote Alien- Resurrection)

Not as far as I remember there ever being a mention one way or another.

Yes. In one of the Angel episodes with Fred's parents, there was an in-joke about how Fred's dad loves the Alien movies but wasn't a fan of "that last one" (Resurrection).

In least Connor had a reason to be like that, being raised in a hellish dimension and being told about how bad Angel and his company are does that to you.

So being raised in a hell dimension and surviving turns you into and insufferable brat?

Yeah I think this is the main thing, Kartheiser has really grown as an actor but in all honesty I still see connor in his performance of pete sometimes.
