Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 2

I think, like Doctor Jones said, each finale was perfect for its respective series. But yeah, if you forced me to choose one I'd definitely go with Angel's, even if my favorite series of the two was Buffy.

Yeah, Angel had the best finale. From how bittersweet it is to how the show didnt get to end on it's own terms, the ending just feels right.

I think the last season of Angel might have been the best of anything BTVS related. So yeah I agree the last episode was the better of the two but Buffy sure was the superior quality show IMO.

Season 5 of Buffy is pinnacle-television for me.

So many tremendous emotional moments.

Like when Joyce tells Buffy that Dawn believes that Joyce is her mother, and that she should take care of Dawn? Damn, just writing out this sentence is emotionally difficult for me.

Buffy S5 is my favorite season of either show as well, though Angel S5 isn't far behind. There are just so many stellar individual episodes in S5 of Angel, and as mentioned, the ending was killer. It might be tied for 2nd place with Buffy S3 for me. It's close, that's for sure.

Yeah that's why I said "might be" but Fred's death was just as emotional as Joyces for me but Sarah's performance was just the best so yeah I agree that BTVS season 5 is the best then s3 and s6 is tied with s5 of Angel.

Agreed. There were some great episodes in S5 of Buffy. The Body was an especially emotional one. I don't know about anyone else, but after Jenny's death in S2, and the Band Candy episode in S3, I always hoped Joyce and Giles might wind up as a couple.

The S5 finale of Buffy is where the show kinda jumped the shark for me. While there were certainly some very strong episodes in S6 and S7, on the whole neither of those last two seasons were quite as good as the five previous seasons.

I liked that they didn't try to up themselves in S6 since how do you up a god? Though after OMWF I HATED and I mean HATED what they did to Buffy and her entire storyline with Spike. Even SMG was pissed with what they had done to her that season, which is probably why it was easier for her to quit after her contract was up.

Joss not handling majority of the season really showed and Marti made some poor decisions having all the power she had during that season.

I agree on all of this. I also felt like Marti didn't quite have the knack for metaphor that Joss did, and the use of it in S6 felt quite clunky in comparison to the earlier seasons. S6 has a few GREAT episodes, but it is generally one of my most-skipped seasons on re-watches.

I don't like S6 and S7 of Buffy. When the show jumped networks, the show went down for me. I've consistently been an Angel fan. The beginning of it was a bit rough at first but after Doyle dies, it gets better.

Once more with feeling is the only good thing to come out of season 6...

I hate season 6 and it's drug = magic "metaphor"

Bargaining is one of my favorite Season Premieres.

I liked s6 if only for giving us tebula rosa, dark Willow and Once More With Feeling. I felt it lost some of it's sparkle s7 though.

The only really regrettable thing about S7 for me was the addition of all the Potentials.

Well... less that, and more that so many of them were annoying as hell. :o

But there were still a number of great episodes in there, though.

The big bad of season 7 was weak.... It had so much potential though when the first morphed into every single previous bug bad at the end of the premiere. I wished that they followed through with that...

Conversations with Dead People was a standout in S7. I like Principle Wood and I'm a fan of the way the series ended, but overall it's my least favourite, and I think it's because Spike-with-a-soul drags it down so much.

Regarding S6, I actually like it more than most people I think. I used to hate what they did with Buffy and Spike, but I think what saves it is when Buffy asks Tara if she came back from the dead different, and when Tara tells her she's the same Buffy just sobs. They explored a dark place in Buffy's life for a season and it really had some strong emotional moments. What happens between Anya, Spike, and Xander is much more unforgivable, imo.

Buffy and Spike never should have rekindled anything in S7. It diluted S6. But Spike is my least favourite character in both shows.

Conversations With Dead People, The Killer in Me, Lies My Parents Told Me, Storyteller... all great episodes. Up there with the best of the series.

Yeah that's actually the only reason I didn't like it as much. S7 would have been better off without them. I also hated Kennedy quickly coming in to replace Tara. Pretty much everything about the potentials seemed mishandled.

I was into Kennedy/Willow at the start of it, but with each passing episode, it was just like "Okay, this chick is the worst."

I have probably re watched season 6 more than most seasons because I connected with it when I was going through my own depression/drug and alcohol issues.

For me, that's just the level of realism in Buffy though. The characters are going to experience what it is logical for them to experience based on the events of their lives so far... and I think depression and addiction issues are fairly realistic responses to the things they had all been through.

I always sort of respected the show for not being afraid to have their characters go through the kind of emotional conflict that people go through in their lives... because they were open to so much criticism for making it too 'depressing'.

Spike was way to focused on in s7 for my liking. I know he took over as the male lead but the season should've focused more on the originals. Plus i just haven't liked Spike since he was love sick for Buffy. He over stayed his welcome and Giles/Wood should've been allowed to kill him.

I respectfully disagree. Giles and Wood both overstepped their bounds. Spike should've torn that little Mama's boy limb from limb. And as for Giles, meh.

While the potentials WERE incredibly annoying, I still prefer S7 over S6, if only because I think it had more standout episodes and a stronger story arc...or at least a stronger conceptual story arc, lol. But "Selfless," "Conversations with Dead People" and "Lies My Parents Told Me" would all probably make my top 10 favorite episodes of the entire show, while "Storyteller," "Dirty Girls" and the run of "Touched"/"End of Days"/"Chosen" are pretty great as well, imo.

I lost interest in Buffy and Angel simultaneously (S7/S4). I've since gone back and given S5 of Angel a full viewing and I was very happy to see that the show ended with a strong season.

Buffy on the other hand....most of the characters began to lose me in S6 and that was truly rammed home in S7 (a season that I still haven't been able to give a full viewing to as it just never fails to piss me off). I just found that the lot of them bar Faith had become incredibly unlikeable.

For a show that was all about how relatable the characters were I find that truly amazing.
