Fantasy Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 3

well to stop in amidst the arguments, i was finally able to pick up on season 3 again. got 2 episodes in today: The Zeppo, and whatever the next one was called lol

The Xander-centric episode was okay. and the xander/faith hookup was a little interesting
The next episode introduced Wesley who i remember from Angel. Buffy and Faith started hanging more, Buffy got more reckless and Faith accidentally killed a real person.
The Mayor is back, I think he's kinda entertaining.
The fat blobby mojo villain sure was gross looking lol

I havent watched any of these shows in years but season 3 was a delight. Wesley was such a bad character when introduced and its astounding the transformation he would eventually undergo

i really enjoyed him in Angel and it's crazy to see how bumbling he is now. just like cordelia, i'm kinda experiencing them in reverse so it's very interesting.

Still planning to watch Buffy and Angel in parallel as they aired next season, CC?

Also, S2 may have been where I got hooked, but "The Zeppo" was the moment I realized this show's writers were geniuses who knew exactly what they were doing. That's where I truly bought into the show hook, line and sinker, so that ep will always hold a special place in my heart.

i haven't decided. do the seasons connect to each other or are they just kinda going on at the same time?
what would you recommend?

what about the Zeppo made you feel that way? like i enjoyed it but i can't place why exactly i enjoyed it so much. does that make sense?

Definitely watch together if you can. There's a lot of crossover especially in Angel's 1st 2 seasons. Like, one character will leave Buffy and head right over to LA to continue their storyline and vice versa. Angel S3 then stands alone, but then in S4 (which coincides with Buffy's final season) the crossovers return in a couple instances.

Just the meta-commentary, basically. Xander walking in on all the apocalypse drama of the other Scoobies perfectly recreated what it's like for anyone walking in on a scene or two of this show or experiencing it out of context. Like, that's exactly how the show looks to the uninitiated. The fact that the writers were clearly self-aware enough to do that and have a laugh about it made me appreciate them on a whole other level. And tbh I just enjoyed the matter-of-factly morbid vibe of the humor that episode. It jived really well with the idea this is a misadventure of an overlooked side character in this supernatural world (even though I actually Xander, that's a discussion for another day). And the Oz gag at the end was amazing, lol.

Wesley really proves that with the right writing that practically any character can be saved. I never would have expected to see him again, certainly not in Angel.

I never really bought the early days of Wesley's transformation, like S1 of Angel through S3 of Angel. Mentally getting into a dark place after the whole baby-Connor thing, sure, but his badass skills stuff seems to sort of come out of nowhere.

But after all that, final two seasons, he's hands down the most compelling character on the show.

It's the same phenomenon with Giles though, always bugged me a bit. I get that he's had quite a history and the "Ripper" history sets him up with some potent skills, but it's the opposite of Wesley with all that for me. I buy Giles being worldly and somewhat of a badass, but the bumbling-idiot stuff around Jenny and even the kids in the early seasons comes off a little false. Some of it's an act, a cover, yeah, but still comes off pretty awkward to me.

He's great in the latter seasons though.

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Inclusive Reboot in the Works With Joss Whedon

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting the reboot treatment.

20th Century Fox Television, who produced the original Joss Whedon drama, have put a new take on the beloved Sarah Michelle Gellar drama in development. Writer Monica reen, who worked with Whedon on ABC's Agents of SHIELD, has been hired to pen the adaptation.

Whedon will be an exec producer on the series and has been working with Breen on the script, which features a black actress stepping into the role of Buffy made famous by Gellar.

Gail Berman, Joe Earley, Fran Kazui and Kaz Kazui (who produced Whedon's original Buffy film that inspired the TV series) will also serve as exec producers on the potential series. A network is not yet attached for the new Buffy, talks for which began last fall. Producers Fox 21 TV Studios will pitch the Buffy re-do to streaming and cable outlets later this summer in a package bound to ignite a bidding war. It's unclear if Whedon will have any additional role on the new Buffy due to his other commitments, which include HBO's recent straight-to-series order The Nevers.

This is so stupid. This is a franchise that doesnt need to be rebooted! It has a HISTORY that can be explored!

Why not just set it in the original continuity and feature the new protagonist as a new slayer?

Is Whedon still doing the comics? Maybe they want to do their own take and don't want to have to deal with his story.

We have generations of Slayers to deal with. If they dont want to doa present day Slayer then they have hundreds of Slayers in the past to play with. They have Fray to play with, they could just ignore the comics.

Excited if joss is really involved.....

If he’s “involved” like he was with agents of shield, then “meh”

He's gonna help write the pilot then put his name on it, then he ain't coming back. He'll be quoted hefe and there for articles but other than that, he's gone. Why would he throw himself into another ongoing series this when it's something he already did, especially when he has a show he's developing?

Yeah, I am getting the feeling Whedon is involved in name only at this stage. Maybe something more definitive later will clear it up.

Eh, while i dont neccessary have anything against reboots...its becoming such a lazy things seemingly.

Why not making a show in the Buffy universe but focused on a different slayer?
Have the Original cast show up if they want but otherwise build new characters.
Are they too lazy or what nowadays to create new characters?

I thought the actors showed interest in reprising their roles? Why not going with a Cartoon season 8?

There is so much they could do before thinking about a Reboot...but no, seems to be the easiest method for them.

Anyway, i will check this out and follow the news...but im not a fan of it at the moment.
I will give it a shot just like the new charmed.

It reminds me of Xena a few years back. They went from a reboot to a revival to killing it off. It's like they can't figure out what they want to do except screw it up.

I'm not interested in a reboot.

Someone new gets in charge of the title and suddenly there's a new 'vision' they want to pursue and make it all their own from the start. Maybe when it airs I'll be swayed, but I'd be much more interested in a follow-up series or a prequel as has been noted.

When we left the Scooby gang, Willow and released the Slayer powers to uplift all the potentials, in fact making an army of Slayers to fight against evil. There's that whole dynamic to explore with any number of new Slayers to be introduced to. Or going back to discover past wars, where the Watchers were far more strict than Giles decided to be with Buffy.

But no, someones got to remake something that had nothing wrong with it.
:whatever:

Buffy is my all-time favorite, but just no…
