Fantasy Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 3

There were new details that I hadn't seen before.
This is true. But then we need to consider why that probably is. Because so few were receptive of what she already said. Played it down, many calling her the usual awful things when someone points out their creative God is crap. I think we need to consider how willing people were to defend and look the other way with Whedon for setting up and environment where details weren't welcomed.

I think its hard to call some of them cowards when we don't know if they spoke to her privately, if she didn't want them to get involved, if they thought she had made peace w/Whedon. They did briefly reunite after Angel ended.

So of those who have worked with Whedon, is Alan Tudyk so far the only one who has defended him?

Recently, I mean. I know that Tudyk's defense came back in July when Fisher went public about Whedon. Since folks are being vocal, curious if the likes of Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, or Christina Hendricks would have any comment.

We just learned that there was rule specifically about not leaving Trachtenberg on her own with Whedon. That means the majority knew. What are the chances Minear and Espenson didn't know?

Good point, though Minear was on AtS, not BtVS. He apparently knew about what was going on with Charisma.

I wonder how much the writing staff had to deal with, and how many (if not all) were aware of what was going on with stuff like Michelle. And if they were made to feel that they couldn't do anything about it or if they didn't care or any of the above?

Speaking of the writers, another person I would love to hear from is Marti Noxon. I mean come Season 6, she pretty much took up the reins for the show while Joss was doing Firefly. I'm sure whatever terror he was bringing wasn't just exclusive to the cast, I wonder how their relationship really was.

There is a fan comment on another forum that during one of the cast and writer reunions (I think Paley Fest?) that Charisma and Marti both laughed about seperate experiences where Joss called them into the office and made them feel they were going to be fired as a "joke."

But their shared laughter came off as a bit nervous/awkward, as if they both wanted to say something else.

EDIT: oh geez, she's weighed in. Good for her though

Wasn't it said Whedon had favorites? I can't imagine Head would fit into Whedon's M.O. He's an older male with standing than young female newcomers who Whedon can easily take more advantage of and exert power over, so I can't imagine how Head would be a witness to that. Judging by his abuse, it wasn't in the open, Scott Rudin abusive, it was more petty person to person where Whedon could just sit you down in a room and do it that way more passively even. You may not even know he's doing it. It's more manipulative.

Fans have speculated on Whedon's favorites for years. Denisof and Hannigan are godparents to at least one of his kids, he liked working with Amy Acker and Eliza Dushku a lot. Acker, Dushku and Denisof all showed up in other projects, along with people like Fillion and Tudyk. He seemed to run hot and cold on James Marsters, Marsters has stated that he didn't feel like a favorite.

We know Carpenter definitely wasn't and hasn't associated with him since the shows ended. There were a LOT of rumors of a feud between him and Gellar during the last few seasons and her husband got involved, and he'd occasionally make thinly veiled cracks about them and her career afterward. And there was the narrative that she was "difficult to work with" that probably started with him, as when usually when an actress is labeled as that it means she said "no" to the wrong guy. And it's difficult to find anything positive about him and Boreanaz; despite some crap the latter has allegedly pulled, he at least still seems to be on friendly terms with Gellar and Carpenter and speaks highly of AtS (mostly Greenwalt's baby), but less on BtVS and WHedon. Whedon has said he had issues with the character of Angel because he reminded him of the jocks that used to beat him up; Boreanaz was a jock who likes sports. Both he and Gellar both support the Buffy/Angel ship, and Whedon seems weirdly interested in punishing the characters for wanting to be together.

Nicholas Brendon was told not to work out anymore because Spike was the new heart throb and Xander was meant to be a stand in for Joss, who didn't have NB's looks. Brendon is a mess of a human being now, but in light of this work environment, it makes you wonder how much of a role it played in what he's like now. Not that it excuses his behavior, but we could potentially understand it better

I'd be genuinely shocked if Amy Acker did make a comment against Joss. If she makes a statement, one of his favorites, then I know he's really dead meat.

I mean he's dead meat regardless, but you know what I mean.

Dushku has made a comment of support as well. She was one of his favorites and they worked together on Dollhouse. But she's been through some serious s*** herself, so even if she had a good working relationship with him and never saw any abuse herself, I'm sure she's aware that that doesn't mean anything

Acker and Hannigan, if they comment, may say something along similar lines. I also wonder if we will hear from the recurring actresses like Julie Benz, Juliet Landau, Mercedes McNab, Stephanie Romanov...

Would be nice to hear more from the male actors. Some of the Twitter crowd is condemning the male actors already who haven't made full statements. I think it's a bit premature for that, this isn't an easy situation. Though we SHOULD hear from them

I’ve been really curious to hear the POV of the writers. Not to dismiss what the actresses are saying at all, but if Joss treated the on-screen talent that way, it’s not a stretch to imagine he treated his writers even worse.

David Fury has been outspoken in the past about Joss basically getting Angel cancelled by being needlessly aggressive in throwing his weight around in dealings with WB.

He might be one of the next ones to chime in.

As I recall Whedon admitted as much with the hubris that he and Angel were too important to cancel so he pushed too hard for an early renewal and they cancelled it instead.

This is why I hate social media. Like you said, it’s not an easy situation for anyone. And many times when one says something there’s backlash. And if you don’t say something, same deal. Ray Fisher is the perfect example of this.

Sometimes I wish Twitter didn’t exist. Seems that the world be better off without it

Yeah. In the case of Charisma having a platform to open up and gain support, social media is a good thing. It's opened the flood gates though. People have been tweeting at Seth Green and Alexis Denisof to say something. I think Alyson Hannigan as well. They may simply need time to gather their thoughts, it's not as if this is an easy situation for anyone to deal with in the public eye.

Boreanaz is getting a lot of hate for having his Twitter and IG locked, but apparently he's had it locked for a while anyway (can't blame him, Twitter is a cesspool). Some are saying he's an anti-masker and Trump supporter...but others have re-posted pictures of him wearing a mask and he follows Joe Biden, so it seems like rabid hate. Plus he may have reached out to Carpenter privately since he's still friendly with her anyway, people seem to forget phone calls are a thing.

Marsters was getting Tweeted at until he said his statement, and it hadn't even been two days. Like maybe wait a couple weeks at least for everyone to have a chance before getting the pitchforks out

"Casually cruel"

Joss Whedon is just one of the biggest names in entertainment to be called out for this, but I know you'll find this in a large amount of people in authoritative positions in any field. This is a much bigger issue that I hope opens up in all venues. Joss Whedon is a tree amongst a rotting forest.

To be fair, it doesn't take much to say you support other people in this situation. Especially when one actor was quick to jump to Whedon's defense before. If the tough situation is they are friends with a monster, they can **** right off. We already know he didn't treat white men on set or in the writing room the way he treated women or people of color.

SMG didn't say much, but what she did had an impact. Support matters when someone comes out in these situations. Look at ASH and Richards. It's not hard. That said, if they faced abuse themselves, that is different of course.

I have to say that I've been "out of the loop,"as it were, when it comes to Buffy/Angel. But seeing what Charisma and others have said left me shocked, but strangely...not surprised.

I don't like fans making demands of people. No-one has to speak out, especially so quickly. They have a right to privacy and a right to deal with a situation first before issuing statements. Everyone had their own experience on that show and it is reactionary and not productive to hound presumably innocent parties for information, especially when it is likely to be sensitive information.

I think I follow Hannigan on ig. I've seen her posts at least. She posted a pic of her daughter as Dark Willow Jr like a week ago. This is incredibly close to home. I can't speak to her experience but the lady met her husband and father of her kids while working on Buffy. It's distasteful to bother someone to spill the beans on their life to the public so we can play detective.

I think there is already enough said that we don't need to force them to speak up too. Who knows what kind of treatment either of them got from Whedon. If everyone else is to go by, it was not friendly and it was not pleasant.

People... it's the Daily Mail. :funny:

That said, why are people making it about revealing anything? Isn't the general idea about support of thos who suffered? No one is saying anyone has to reveal anything, outside of the crazy Whedon fans that demand "proof" something happened. Just like, a sign of support for those already speaking out. SMG made it clear she didn't really want to talk about it, but still took the time to support Carpenter. And that was important, because a lot of this has been known for years and people ignored it, because there was no support for a Carpenter, like for a while there was no support for Fisher. Hell Gadot and Momoa came out saying there was an issue, and people acted as if that wasn't a thing. Support matters.
