By Neptune's Trident, how Outrageous! the Aquaman thread

How do you know?

Because reading Aquaman from Aquaman #1 and comparing it to Aquaman from Brightest Day, he's still the exact same character. The parentage is still the same in the post-Flashpoint universe. His relationship with Mera is still the same. His costume did not change one bit. He still lives in the lighthouse that his father operated. His personality is still the same.

So considering that Johns is treating Aquaman the way he treats Green Lantern, it's pretty safe to assume that Aquaman did not change in the post-Flashpoint universe. And when Johns has mentioned Aquababy already, it's safe to assume that Aquababy is not touched considering that Aquaman has not changed at all.

But GL did change. Hal's even more of a *****e than ever.

Also, his costume is different. Also, they did change his origin.

It's a direct continuation of the previous Green Lantern book.

Hal's costume may have changed but Green Lantern: Secret Origin is still intact.

I'm more curious about Jackson than anything else.

Also Mysti how often do Brits really say Bloody Hell?

Not that often to be honest

We do drink a ton of tea though

That would be great. They could continue their angsty relationship with Garth accusing Arthur of abandoning Atlantis, too. Which, in this case, Arthur actually did

That could lead to some really excellent drama in the future

Yeah but f**k Atlantis.

:wow:

Oh snap

How can you hate Atlantis 'Nubs

You can ride a seahorse to work there

5 Years ago timeline, but as hippie states the current Hal is the same. Just like I'm sure when Aquaman appears in JL the chance that something is different about his personality is pretty high too I bet.

I'll be interested to see how Aquaman fits in with the rest of the league too

Ok, haha. Just curious because Harry Potter perpetuates that 'bloody hell' is like the only foul phrase Brits use.

Hahaha no we swear as much as anyone else

Though I don't swear that much most of the time personally

Aquaman was awesome. Just really cool, this book is going to be a great ride from start to if it ever gets cancelled. I'm loving Reis art and this does not feel like a Johns book to me which is awesome and great for him, there are the usual pacing problems but I feel like the voice I normally feel for Johns written books is not here. He has found that delicate balance with Arthur and it's quickly making him even more badass than he was before. The Mystery here is intriguing and worth discussing I like that the threat here is just pure evil though as well because it gives Arthur a chance to show the public that hey I'm a good person and super strong while also showing that he isn't afraid of the spotlight either but doesn't really notice the spotlight when it's on him. I'm all around just happy we have a Aquaman book and glad that it's being written so well.

I'm loving it so much as well. It's been a great series and while I'm normally not a Johns fan he writes a really good Aquaman and Mera. So far this book has been a terrific read and I already can't wait for issue three

The Trench are a good spooky new villain for the series too and I cant wait to see how this arcs going to wrap up

Enjoying Johns' take on Aquaman more and more by the issue.

Really loving the baddies, that he's dealing with and the reflection between Arthur and Mera about his past.

I love that the Aquaman jokes are less irritating this time around. The action picks up, and the Arthur Mera interactions are gold. DC book of the week for me, but the book of the week for me is Daredevil 5 (seriously, buy this series).

It works, but I still find it slightly odd that Mera would be AS oblivious as she came across to "surface world life/activities". And the line where she said "they should be bowing to you" and "I can educate them" or something of the sort came slightly across as slightly out of character.

But I did love Issue 2.

Felt a little spare to me. The "Aquawoman" exchanges felt like they took up a lot of the issue that could've been better spent moving the plot forward. As it stands, all that really happens is that the Trench come ashore. But it was still decent. I just hope this is an odd exception and Johns picks up the pace in future issues.

Yea, I was hoping for a bit more. Did feel like it was odd paced even though it was entertaining.

I get the feeling the next few issues will be faster paced with the Trench coming ashore now

I'd have appreciated a moment's hesitation on Aquaman's part before he started murdering Trenchies, but I guess I shouldn't have expected him to stick to his old code, what with the big, sharp trident he's carrying everywhere now.

Maybe its that the Trench are 'monsters' and thats why he is okay with it

Superman Wonder Woman and Batman are totally okay with killing vampires and demons and zombies so maybe Aquaman sees the Trench the same way

It's a moral grey area :ninja:

But vampires, demons, and zombies are all not just monsters but monsters who are ostensibly already dead (or are close enough since they live in the nether-realms anyway, in the case of demons). I can see the argument that it doesn't really count if they died once before anyway. Nothing indicates the Trench are undead monsters. They just seem to be hungry, primitive animals.

Yeah, but f**k them.

They're ugly. Ugly things need to die. :o

I never really considered Aquaman to have such a problem with killing. Certainly in the amount of wars he's been in, being part of the rather ruthless Atlantian heritage (even if he didn't grow up in it) and being a King killing is almost means he would be OK with passing judgement.

I agree with Yenaled. Kings have to evaluate each Death, this was a mysterious new foe and seemed to have a relentless "hunger". In the heat of battle I believe Arthur felt saving lives was more important than weighing his options with a new and clearly deadly foe.

He's just a dude who grew up in a lighthouse now, though. ;)

But yeah, I agree that Aquaman shouldn't have a problem with killing if he deems it necessary. He certainly shouldn't be absolutely opposed to it like Batman. But I mean, these totally new beings show up on a boat and he just starts stabbing them to pieces. The very first one it shows him hitting, he's cleaving it in two with his trident. That seems to go beyond just being okay with killing to me.

But I tend to be the minority opinion on stuff like this these days, so I'll shut up. Wouldn't want to go all Kurosawa on ya. (No offense, Kuro. :))
