The Dark Knight Caine: "Heath frightened the life out of me"

just for nicholson's sake (for the record i think his joker is meh), for those who say he plays the same character in every movie...that's a choice. he actually is a great actor. watch chinatown. he played that straighter than a mutha f-ckin light post. so with chinatown alone (possibly his best performance) he earned the right to play himself for the rest of his career. =D

No--

Every actor has to hold his own weight in his/her film and sometimes, Jack being Jack was - well - annoying.

I liked his Joker, but the fact that he's on the AFI list twice for greatest cinema villains, one of them being the Joker, and that he's won numerous oscars speaks volumes. I don't need to say much. And with that said, I hope Heath's Joker is even better. It wouldn't be any fun it wasn't.

yeah...there's plenty annoying about b89. i'm just saying he isn't an overrated actor. i'm speaking about him in general and not at all about his joker

Yeah, Jack's a GREAT actor- but not that great of a Joker.

I also liked him in "One who Flew over the Cucoo's Nest" But other then that yea I guess it's all choice, but to me I think he does not deserve as many nominations as he has gotten. But thats me. Any who I agree with ya.

i agree. i think there are a couple scenes there his joker is spot on. and i definitely don't think he is overrated. and i too hope and definitely want ledger's joker to be better.

indeed. and yes, in one flew, he was awesome as well.

Kind of like this post for example.

Jack has been in several different roles. His role in the original Little Shop of Horrors, is no where close to being the same as his role as the Lawyer in Easy Rider, nor is that like his performance in About Schmidt or Batman. But I have no reason to get in a debate because Nicholson's career speaks louder than I do.

Agreed, Jack is an amazing actor. But just because someone is a good actor doesn't necessarily mean that they are at the top of their game in every move. Pacino and De Niro leap immediately to mind. They're both REALLY GOOD, IF you catch them in the right movies, but eventually they both got typecast and ended up playing the same character in every film.

Loved how Meet the Parents played around with that typecasting of De Niro.

Good enough to outshine Nicholson. :cwink:

Don't get me wrong, Nicholson was good with what he was given- he just wasn't the Joker.

Nicholsons Joker was a big inspiration for the animated series. Proof of this is the voice and the body style they gave him. All previous versions of the Joker were very skinny and usually had a higher pitched voice. The animated series had a low voice and thicker body size like Nicholson. I think Hamill did his own thing but I get tired of Nicholson always getting discredited for what he did with the Joker. It WAS creepy and evil and crazy as hell. The animated series built off of that.

Hammil's Joker creeps me out from time to time, Nicholson never did that.... thus, the IDEAL Joker is Hammil's Joker- voice, look, everything.

"Mirror......Mirror!"
"Wait till they get a load of me?"
Those scenes were creepy.

From the sounds of it we are finally getting the true Joker on screen for the first time. Ledger is Hammil's Joker- will Ledger outshine Hammil is still yet to be seen, but odds are he might because we finally have material accurate to the psychopath that Joker is.

Ledger is not coming across as Hamills Joker to me. Not at all. My original point is that I find it hard to understand how you are going to compare something with an animated character. I suppose you can if you imagine a large part of the perfomance. However until Mark Hamill puts on a Joker outfit and lands a role in a feature Batman film, there simply can be no REAL comparison. Besides I don't get why so may are impressed with it anyways. I'm a HUGE Batman fan, Joker fan and I loved the animated series while I was growing up but to say it's better than Nicholson is crazy enough for me. It just seemed like, well, a really good vocal performance.

Those who say Joker is just psychotic in the cartoons because he laughs never watched the cartoons. It was his ACTIONS that made him psychotic and scary- one of the scenes that sticks out the most is the flashback in the PG-13 cut of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. That Joker made Nicholson's Joker look like a *****.

I watched them and I completely disagree with what you are saying. So Joker in 89 wasn't crazy enough? Killing everyone with the smilex gas in the parade bit, shooting his right hand man because he was PO'd that someone didn't tell him he had one of those things. Killing everyone in the museum? Stabbing Vinny in the throat with a pen...etc...etc... I don't recall the cartoon Joker ever being that brutal.

And with scenes such as:
A bomb inside of someone's chest to light them up like "christmas lights"
is any indication of what we'll get, we will finally get a Joker that will either equal Hammil or surpass him.

But, FACT of the matter is-imo- Nicholson's Joker is a scared sane chicken compared to Hammil.

Ridiculous....

------------

And Naite, dude, MOST of us here actually knew that.... Nolan's looking at Loeb's Joker- and if you know Loeb's Joker, you know how that would translate to screen. That was only cemented by "The Killing Joke"

...

I dunno Hamil scared the hell out of me. I was afraid to wake up to his voice and imagine Joker stapling a pillow to my face and suffocating me. Then I went through weeks without eating fish because i was afraid it had joker toxin. Nicholson didn't really scare me except for what he did to his girl friend.

I don't know about you but sometimes, it's weird seeing anonymous people showing off their opinions online. Sometimes, it doesn't feel as legit as actually speaking to a person in...person.

Sometimes it feels like people like to criticize people to elevate others.
I respect the people who didn't like Jack's Joker but admire him as an actor.

What I don't get are the people who criticize Jack as an actor as a whole. It's like saying De Niro sucks as an actor because he did "Meet the Fockers" or whatever.

People are just so passionate that they get blindsided by the comments that they makes sometimes, just to prove a point.

Of course Nicholson was playing himself. He is the goddam Joker. :joker:

They both had creepy moments but the ONLY Joker that gave me nightmares was Brian Bollands illustration.

Very nice point.

Cesar was a nice guy, don't disrespect him just because Nicholson was the Joker. :)

He reminded me One who flew over the cookoo nest with the bar talk from The Shining. Plus make up. Great actor not my favorite

Wow, so your saying I can't, dislike an actor? Just because you like him does not mean everyone in the world does. A lot of people liked Bush enough to get him re-elected, apparently the majority *Not me* but look how thats turned out. Everyone can have their opinion Octoberist. I like some of his work, but I really don't care for his acting for the most part. And I have never ever liked Jack. To me your trying to say people are so passionate they get blind sided, yea, just because some one has been nominated for Oscars a lot (Jack) does not mean he's a god of acting. Just that he's got the right connections. You like him, great. Good for you. But that does not mean everyone in the world has to share your view. Though I love DeNiro, people have a right to dislike his work too. It's not by law that we have to like certain actors.

This just makes me giddy with fandom. :woot: I just wish we would get more news lately, but I htink December's our best bet for anything meaty :csad:

Geesh, he said "It feels like" and "sometimes." I don't recall him ever saying that people can't have thier own opinion yet you are upset with him for stating his. Whatever.

I think when it goes from not liking an actor to saying that everything they make is crap where some people draw the line. I loathe Shia Labuff but he is a pretty good actor. To not acknowledge an actors accomplishments and only the instances where you disliked them is just like seeing someone for only their flaws. If you genuinely don't like their acting then someone should explain why so it doesn't seem just like bashing.

Jack was a great Joker, no matter what any of you people say. And I Stress the period!
