The Dark Knight Caine: "Heath frightened the life out of me"

I, like a lot of others, will reserve judgement until the actual film opens (A trailer isn't going to do it for me) but I'm also one of the ones who believed he would absolutely nail the character. Just the source material and direction he's being given to work with puts him ahead of Nicholson in terms of reference. And let's be honest, Jack's Joker performance, while entertaining, was just Jack being Jack.

Furthermore, I would find it much more difficult to play a homosexually repressed cowboy then the Joker. Plenty of people had a lot of issues about casting Ledger because of that role, but that was the reason I always felt he'd be good. He's already demonstrated the ability to go far out for the sake of character, and I don't think the Joker should be much of a stretch after that...

the trailer will at least offer us a glimpse. all we've got now is a single line of voiceover dialogue and a few official/unofficial stills. and it's certainly not enough to make any sort of judgement upon.

Look, all I got to say is that Mark Hamill is the definitive Joker, for me, now hopefully Heath can put his spin on the Joker, in which his sick, demented jokes don't make us laugh, but then again, that's more like a dumbed-down Joker, to me, because if you think about, hasn't his sick jokes made you laugh and then made you think why you laughed in the first place (acknowledgement of the darker, insane, side of you)...i dunno, I love Mark Hamill, and as far as I'm concerned, that's Heath's competition not Nicholson, and I need a better laugh than the one second tiff in the teaser...no offense, i was a little disappointed with it, but hey, I can't really judge since it only lasted a second

Depends. I laugh with his jokes sometimes, and other times I don't, both in the comics, in B89 and in TAS. There is no rule for that, it depends on what kind of humor each person has and how each joke of the Joker satisfies said person's sense of humor.

That's very true. Ang Lee could have played it safe and gotten two gay actors to play those roles, but he decided to take a risk and it paid off. Not only did it take a lot of guts for Heath and Jake to accept those roles, but they also gave it their all for a film that was initially pretty small. They deserved every word of praise that they got for that movie. Both weren't very well known before BM and now they're household names because of it and can get just about any role they want in a movie. Good for them! Like you, that movie is the reason why I thought (and still think) that Ledger would make a great Joker, so I wish the homophobes would just shut the hell up. There hasn't been a lot of that here at SHH, but at other boards (like IMDB), they won't shut up about it.

I too am going to reserve my judgement of Heath's performance after i see it, but I must admit all these acolodes he's been receiving from the cast can crew is encouraging. :yay:

I wonder how the scene with Joker + Alfred will play out...

The Joker better pray there's no golf clubs around! ;)

i dont care if they are 40 yr friends. caine is in TDK and jack was in B89. caine will say that heath is the best. this is now modern. look at shia. he acts in interviews like everything that happens to him is the best thing in hes life.

i warn you guys. dont higher your expectations so high. at least waith for the official trailer to be 200% positive. i know how it feels when caine says those things. but watch out.
I've been a huge fan of Caine's for a long time. I've seen enough of his interviews to know he's very complimentary to his fellow cast members. But usually cast members with whom he shares many scenes. He'll say they're very talented...or generous...hard working, etc. He's stated he thinks Jude Law gives his best performance in the new SLEUTH film. But, then again, they work with each other that entire film.

It sounds like Caine shares only one or two scenes with Ledger so for him to not only talk up Ledger's performance from that one and only scenes...and to go into detail about "forgetting" his lines. I take him for his word.

Maybe we will feel the same way about Ledger or maybe we won't, but I don't think we should question Caine's honesty here.

I mean REALLY... it's called ACTING! And while I really don't have much of a desire to see BM simply because I have no interest in it, the mere fact that he took on that role and won such acclaim for it should only make Ledger more qualified. When the casting was first announced, there was that influx of "Brokebat/Jokebat" jokes. I got my one and half chuckles out of it, and have ignored the rest of the naysayers ever since. This man will show 'em all. Mark my words.

And now with that being said...

Ledger: "The Joker, so far, is definitely the most fun I've had with any character. He's just out of control. He has no empathy. He's a sociopath, psychotic, mass-murdering clown. And I'm just thoroughly, thoroughly enjoying it. It's exceeded any expectations I've had in terms of what the experience would be like. So it will be interesting."

I take it that Caine was talking about the scene where Joker crashes the party -- Joker kicks batman pic -- because of how he said he comes up in the lift.

I have very good feelings about Ledger's performance in this movie. Can't wait to see the clown prince of crime in action. :joker:

Sir Caine forgetting his lines???

NEVAH!!

since he's forgetting his lines maybe he's right that he ought to retire from Hollywood soon.:woot:

Gotta love Citizen Caine though.

I can't wait! I think he's going to be my favorite version of the Joker yet. :)

Sounds great. Can't wait to see it.

I hope they filmed a little of Caine's actual reaction and put it in the movie.

I wonder why the Joker would be after Wayne.

It's been speculated that he's going there to force Batman to come.A bit too reminiscent of BF, if you ask me, but I don't know how it goes yet.

No he's not there for Wayne. I can't remember how far back but it was pretty much talked about where he is going after Dent, and he knows Dent is at this party. He at the time until *cough cough a certian girl spills the beans on Batman* So I don't think Joker could care two cents about Wayne. But Dent is another story.

Whichever way you swing it -- big party, big names, The Joker's gotta be there. Let's turn those frowns upside down :joker:

I don't always agree with donk70, but he has every right to speak his opinion. He is basing his opinion off of the information and pictures that he's seen and know of. Him making a pre-judgment that everything about the Joker doesn't seem to be great is no different than you and others who say the performance will be the really good without having seen the film. Everyone is going to make a pre-judgment and that's to be expected. What matters if the final judgment after you've seen the film.

Yup, every one is gonna make pre-judgments, you're right... But all I'm saying is, DONT judge the man's performance before you see him in action! Pre-judgments or not, it's simply UNwice.
