I said Spider-Man topped Batman before, and Spider-Man can do it again.
And in return, Batman can top Spidey again, just like this year.
I said Spider-Man topped Batman before, and Spider-Man can do it again.
Batman has surpassed Spider-Man at the box office once. Spider-Man has already topped him twice. We shall see if Spidey will net the hat trick once the fourth movie comes around.
The 4th film won't, too many people thought SM3 was crap. And that WILL make a difference.
You know Spider-fan, you make some interesting points, but SM3 problem was the story arc 1st, writing 2nd, usage of characters 3rd, and lack of maturity last... and I don't think that Sam Raimi is capable of rectifying those issues, because of his style of moving making.
I have not forgotten the previous two films, but those films have set the foundation that Spidey is trapped in unless a major overhaul takes place, which is apparently not happening.
With that said, IMHO, on Spider-Man was fair in 2 of the 4 criteria I express above... one honestly can't say that about the remaining two films. IMHO the battle scenes is the best part of Spider-Man 2.
Yes we do and that's fine; but as far as those criteria I gave above, BB was much better in all catagories IMHO than any of the Spidey films, and I am primarily a Spidey/Supes fan... not really a big fan of Bats, but story wise I have to give credit where credit is due. I think most are still taken back by the novelty of finally seeing Spidey on the big screen when it comes to the first film, and not really paying much attention to the criteria express. Then you and I share differing views on the first two movies. I love the first two Spider-Man movies. I love them more than even BB.
Batman bounced back solely because WB luck up and found people who understand the essence of the character, supporting cast(minus Rachel which was meant to be a throw away character), villains, and story telling.Sure it can, the Batman franchise has "Batman And Robin" on it's record and it managed to bounce back! As teeth shatteringly, hair pullingly disappointing as Spider-Man 3 is... It's still no Batman And Robin.

There is a complete different philosophy in approach for these franchise... I think that goes without saying. I still enjoyed all the Spidey films btw, just think it does not compare to the Bats films and am very disappointed with the way the Spidey film are being told.

The reason why I say Sam needs to go before it get to B&R, BF, Supes 3 & 4, SR, DD, Catwoman, Electra, and Ang Lee's Hulk status.
This is the thing that kills me. People shouldn't be thinking if this should top TDK. If it doesn't? Fine. If it does? Great. They can both be great in their own ways without having the conscious thought of topping the other. Raimi would never do this. He just would want to tell a great story. This is why you people aren't making these films thank God for that.
Don't forget BF. Also lame movie that SM3 is easily better than.
The problem with that analogy is that the same director of SM3 is returning, it's not like Spider-man is getting much of a re-boot. As far as we know at least.
PS - I don't think people really need to say Batman and Spiderman are different, who cares who 'wins', blah blah blah. This thread hasn't been deleted, it's obviously a question that's at the back of many people's minds, let's just debate calmly without having the need to constantly say it's not worth talking about. That wasn't directed at anyone in particular, it just gets a little tedious to see the same kind of posts over and over again. The two franchises are currently by far the most popular superhero films: comparisons are inevitable and sometimes even quite interesting to discuss.
I think it's very unlikely for SM4. but if it is great, then SM5, with the larger number of screens that it'll certainly have at the time it is released, could do it.I think SM4 is going to be pretty big. Maybe not as big as the others, but certainly bigger than BB. SM3 still made 900 mil. Even with a drop off, where does that leave it at? 600 mil worst case scenario (I think likely in the 700s personally). Still makes it bigger than BB. Now, I doubt either SM4 or SM5 surpass TDK at the BO. Not impossible, but VERY unlikely.

Ummm, Schumacher returned after BF![]()
So, continuing your analogy, you expect SM3 to be another B&R?
Obviously I'm kidding, but I'm just saying the only reason batman bounced back was because he got a new director and vision. Nothing so far suggests Spider Man will get that, but we'll see.
