Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

Yup. The Psyche-Magnetron doesn't have to be the technological equivalent of a wishing well. Just has to be advanced enough Kree tech. A bomb. A black hole generator. A particle disintegrator. Something.

So, the event is basically a freak, non-replicable accident that just happened to involve Kree DNA, human DNA and radiation from Psychotic-Megatron, which results in Carol's unique power-set.

(A little derivative of Hulk's origin, but unique enough to work IMO.)

Yup, the tech could even have some biological component which could sort of explain in that pseudo-scientific way comic book logic works, how it allows for Kree/Human gene splicing.

I think she needs to be one of the strongest heroes of the MCU. Someone who can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Thor at the very least.

So, basically it's a perfect storm kind of scenario. Something, something Kree technology, something something Kree DNA, human DNA, something something black hole, and you got a crazy powerful superhuman. It's likely something the Kree would not be able to replicate. It's a freak accident, one in a million chance of happening, like the odds of getting struck by lightning. That's a whole lot of somethings.

Carol pimp smacking Hulk would be awesome. Or maybe she beats the hell out of one of Iron Man's armors for whatever reason.

I agree she should be able to go "toe-to-toe" with the likes of Thor, but that's based on her ENTIRE power set, not just strength. In terms of brute strength, Hulk should always remain tops. Then Thor, then Carol, imo. They should be close in strength, but not quite even. But in combat using all their powers, she should definitely be able to take Thor on with a strong chance of winning, I think.

Hmm, I really don't think she should be that powerful. Much less strong than Hulk in terms of sheer brute strength ought to be a no-brainer. Thor should be able to win a fight against her, but it would be a struggle and he'd continue to sing tales of the beautiful warrior woman he went up against for thousands of years over many dozen mugs of meed. Maybe he'd even have lost an eye like his pops. :)

Ideally, I'd like her power level to be somewhere in between Iron Man and Thor... though closer to Thor. I really think making her power level too high would be the equivalent of Mary Suing her. Just would make her character inherently less interesting to me.

(EDIT: Got ninja'd by flickchick, who at this point is my spirit animal... or more likely, I hers. :))

Ninja-ing my spirit animals is an old pastime for me. ;)

Especially since she can just absorb his lightning magic. I agree that Hulk should remain physically the strongest, but she should be able to fight him and she has other abilities as well that helps her out. It should be a real fight. Not like Hulk/Cap, for example, where Cap would be red paste after taking one punch.

If Carol absorbs enough energy, she could easily match them in strength, kind of like that one time she absorbed a nuke and KOed the Sentry.

Carol vs Thor would be the coolest fight. Flight, superstrength, energy projection. I could imagine Thor being surprised, maybe even shocked that when he hits her with his hammer, she doesn't fall down. Sure, it hurts her, but she's able to take it. If Thor makes the same mistake he did with Iron Man, he could hit her with the Lightning. She absorbs the energy energy. Thor says "Are you ready to yield." Carol rises up and smiles. "No, I'm ready to kick some ass!" And then speed blitzes him and things start to get bad for Thor.

I do like the idea of having a Binary form eventually where she becomes ultra-powerful after absorbing enough energy. Kind of like Son Goku becoming a Super Saiyan. At that point she should be able to crush Thor, but it should be really tough to get to that point and therefore seldom seen.

According to are in Feige, Carol will be "one of, if not the most powerful hero." So, basically, you're going to have Carol, Thor, and Hulk seeing who's got the biggest dick. It's a toss up between those 3. All Hulk does is smash, so "the strongest ever" has to be his claim to fame. Carol and Thor are physically weaker, but not unbelievably so. They make up for it with their other powers.

Until Thor powers up by mooching off of DeadDadForce. :)

Didn't Captain Mar-Vell defeat Thanos by using something called cosmic awareness? Or because he was so powerful? Maybe we'll see the same thing with Carol?

Nah, somehow to make her powers the result of structured experimentation somehow diminishes her essence to me.

Like flickchick said, the same broad strokes can be used with zero necessity for said magic wish fulfilling thingamabob. I would keep both her origin and the plot somewhat simple
Is it just me, or it sounds sounds like an exact same plot from Avatar?

How about a Mr. & Mrs. Smith scenario? Kree sends a spy to Earth to protect their interests and eliminate all possible threats, and SWORD recruits Carol (NASA pilot) to investigate on alien activity. They end up in relationships without knowing their true identities but very soon learn the truth. An accident during a fight creates DNA muta-... "anomaly" which gives Carol her powers. Second act is back and forth between them while being hunted by their own allies (SWORD & some kree henchmen) with a grand finale where they team up, prevent some disaster and leave into sunset together. (because you don't need to kill Mar-Vell right after his introduction - give him a chance to live in the MCU for some time and let people attach to him so his death will have more impact on Carol and audience. Jesus, Mar-Vell suddenly turned into Gwen Stacy).

The current generation of comic book readers are generally only familiar with Mar-Vell as being that guy who gave Carol his powers. He doesn't have to die right away, long enough maybe to be her mentor so to speak and teach her about things, then he dies of radiation poisoning from the Kree device exploding. Just like in the comics: cancer.

I think Mar-vell should definitely be a significant character and not just a plot device who passes his powers to Carol in the first act and then dies like Abin Sur in Green Lantern. He should be more like Obi-Wan Kenobi, except not old. There needs to be a real relationship between him and Carol that we get to see on-screen.

So, played by Ewan McGregor then. :D

For real, tho.

Oh right someone did mention she's filming another movie...

^ Yup. I think she's about to shoot that Huntsman sequel and she's playing the Snow Queen (Theron's sister) hence the blonde hair. Hopefully the right people notices her look right now though... *cough*Feige*cough*

Marvel has had their eye on her for a while(Black Widow, Agent Carter), and likely still does. Now that Marvel is hugely successful, maybe they are worth Emily's attention.

She wanted to work for them before too and is loving the Captain Marvel talk in interviews, so the attraction is mutual, lol.

Can anyone imagine how badass Carol's powers would look in the movies? Superstrength is one thing, imagine her shooting energy beams from her hands. It's almost unreal. X-Men:DOFP showed off Bishop's energy absorption powers. Instead of Storm charging up Bishop, imagine Thor charging up Carol. I'm sure Marvel would do things a little differently though. They wouldn't go for the red energy stuff on his face and eyes. Yellow is more Carol's color.

I really hope Carol isn't underpowered in the MCU, Marvel could have a Superman and Wonder Woman character all in one! Although Carol is a different character from those two, you get what I mean!
