Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

It's a faux-hawk, and I don't care for it. Love the shorter hair (just a personal preference), don't like the faux-hawk.

As for Carol's supporting case, well Jessica Drew (be she Spider-Woman or not) did come to mind right away. Also, in the current CM comic, Carol and War Machine are dating. And since Rhodey most likely ain't getting his own movie anytime soon, maybe they could get Don Cheadle to appear in this movie. He and Carol don't even necessarily need to be a couple (or at least not yet), they do have a common Air Force background. So they could just be friends/colleagues/associates/etc.

Cool idea!

As much as I love Jessica Drew, it's likely Carol won't have any human characters with her for a good part of the film.
What makes you say this? Outside of her most recent run (which just ended), Carol's world is usually populated by other humans.

Kevin Feige said this film will be more on the cosmic side of things. It seems they're drawing from recent history.

Well, if it's an origin story, I expect a good portion of the movie to be in space, away from humans.

I recall him saying that Carol is basically a "bridge character" between Earth and Cosmic Marvel as well. She has "one foot in both worlds" and all that. And given that Marvel seems keen on pushing Starlord as the "guy from Earth in space," I kind of doubt that it'll be a completely cosmic film, so much as a film with cosmic elements. I could end up being as simple as the Kree becoming more openly active/hostile towards Earth itself.

Unless the Kree come to Earth. Like Loki said, Feige described her as a "bridge" character between Earthbound and Cosmic Marvel. The Kree finding their way back to Earth seems like it would make for the perfect "bridge" movie between the two sides of the Marvel universe to me. And given that this movie will happen in the middle of the Infinity War, there are many scenarios which could be in play that could lead to the Kree coming here and the Avengers being otherwise disposed.

I'd rather they avoid that. I don't want another Thor: TDW where you have a massively overpowered superhero battling aliens here on Earth, while no one, except for the British military seems to notice. Thor and Captain Marvel are both powerful enough to expect any villain they face to be a threat to the planet itself. I don't want a film where I have to seriously ask the question: "Ok, where the **** are the Avengers?" Or did Thanos kill them in IW Part 1?

On the other hand...

It would be cool to have the Avengers to get a look at Marvel's "most powerful hero" and witness her do something incredible like rip off the top of a skyscraper and chucks it at a Kree ship like a spear. or maybe she can use it as a baseball bat like in Pacific Rim. I would like to see some unbelievable superheroics. Like, comicbook level stuff.

Feigie's "bridge" comments has more to do with Carol being born on Earth, but getting her powers and having her adventures in space. Besides, haven't we seen enough Earth?

I guess she could whoop some Kree ass in space, they get a little butt hurt because they lost so badly to a primitive human. They come in force to Earth to take back their pride and honor, but Carol isn't having any of that.

Dr. Minerva would be a great first villain to use since she's Kree and basicaly has the same powers. I could see Carol and Dr Minerva tearing **** up on Earth. It would be awesome. Minerva is a geneticist who sees Mar-Vell as her perfect mate. She probably sees Carol as competition and kills Mar-Vell because he wasn't interested. Minerva blames Carol for forcing her hand. She didn't want to kill Mar-Vell, but that vile Terran, Carol poisoned him against her and the Kree. This would be so awesome for character development. They would be literally trying to kill eachother at the end of the movie.

Well rumor has it the main Avengers will [blackout]all be out of commission in one way or another until IW part 2, which would leave Earth vulnerable and probably in need of Carol.[/blackout]

I don't see Marvel having Carol's introductory movie put her in space for a majority of the story. It would be a mistake to do that in her first Captain Marvel movie. You want to ground it as much as possible first, and ease the audience into the idea of Carol being a cosmic superhero who travels to other planets. Especially if she's going to be in Infinity War part II where she will likely be in space for a majority of the time. You want to build her up to that, not just toss her in there.

I agree. The Avengers will pretty much be useless without Carol. They will be glad she's around. She's going to be a big leader. Before the Inhumans date got moved, I thought of Carol as the one gathering all the cosmic heroes, and leading them into battle. The Guardians, Inhumans, etc.

Well, it's not like someone is implying that Carol should go on cool, awesome space adventures with the Guardians in her first film. Carol going out in space is actually her origin story. That's how she gets her powers. She gets abducted by Yon-Rogg, and Mar-Vell has to rescue her. Its as simple as that, really. If the whole movie takes place on Earth, I'll be pissed. I'm so sick of Earth.

I see where u are coming from..and u are right.

but the thing is marvel movies doesn't have the luxury of pixar studios. .inside out took 3-4 yrs to make..pixar gave its creator time..lot of time to fine tune the film..

doubt marvel will allow that with captain marvel :)

Captain Marvel isn't due out until November 2018, and won't start shooting until November 2017 most likely. That's more than enough time

Now, why do you say that? I've never seen Inside Out. What should I expect for Captain Marvel?

A tightly written emotional story that makes you go from crying to laughing and back again within minutes and not feeling like tonal whiplash? :oldrazz:

I've just read Essential Ms. Marvel vol. 1 (#1-23) from the 70s. She's such a strong and interesting character. I hope they do her justice. She's always been one of my favourites.

LeFauve was one of 4 writers on Inside Out, so you can't credit it all to her.

Story by - Pete Docter & Ronaldo del Carmen
Screenplay by - Meg LeFauve, Josh Cooley & Pete Docter

As Bats pointed out, the film is 3.5 years away, and LaFauve & Perlman were hired back in April.

Given the criticism that they've already taken on this matter, I would think (and hope) that Marvel would try REALLY hard to NOT screw up their first female-led film (just for self-preservation sake if nothing else).

Considering the sexist comments made by Ike Perlmutter, I wonder if there are those in the inside who will actively try to sabotage this film. I sure hope not. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

LR is reporting that The Batman could aim for Nov 2018 to compete with Cap Marvel.

That's crazy right? Batman can easily dominate July, or May...
