Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

While I tend to agree, am I the only one who likes Brian Reed's Ms. Marvel? Granted, I like Kelly DeConnick's probably better, but I still thought it was quite good.

I liked Reed's run on Ms. Marvel too.

I had a lot of issues with Reed's run, but I did see it as a step in the right direction from what came before.

Tangential:

My twitter feed just had a link to a newscientist article with the headline: "All may not be as it seems when it comes to the Mayan ruins on the Caribbean island of Roatán" and the following picture:

I can't not see that as a Kree Sentry! :woot: And its even in the Carribean (which places it not far from the Kree temple in Aos). Unfortunately the actual article is behind a login wall, and I don't want to create an account.

Take this with a sack of salt:

Apparently, from what I'm being told, the rumor is that the studio has cast the role of Carol Danvers & keeping it top secret. I'm also being told we will first see her in #AVENGERS #AgeofUltron as originally written in previous drafts of the screenplay. In terms of the standalone film, the Marvel brain trust has blocked out the plot & story with the intention of bringing an established writer to write the script. Comic writer Kelly Sue DeConnick wanted to take a crack at writing the screenplay but I'm not sure if she got the gig. Also, I'm told legendary comic writer Jim Starlin, who has a rich history with Captain Marvel is aboard the project as a consultant. All of the above is #UNCONFIRMED so take with grain of salt until further notice but it's within the realm of plausibility.

I doubt that's true, unless she shows up in a post-credits scene. It would seem too jarring for her just to pop out of nowhere in the actual film.

How many post credits scenes can there be in AOU? Now they've got to provide for Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Dr Strange, Captain Marvel and maybe Civil War?

I doubt any of those rumored post-credit scenes will happen.

If Marvel announces a titular hero casting via an after-credit scene, that would be epic, way more epic than SLJ popping up as Fury at the end of IM. However, even the SLJ cameo was leaked during production, so if this rumor does pan out, that means Marvel's seriously upgraded their anti-surveillance department.

I'm hoping it's an actress who hasn't been mentioned yet, just haven't been all too impressed with the names thrown out there so far.

This late in the game, I think we'll see Carol in a post credit scene. I seriously doubt they'll show her fly up to Stark Tower and be like, "Hi, my name's Captain Marvel. I'm here to help you guys out with Ultron."

With all these rumored end credit scenes, Marvel may combine them in one. Imagine someone remarks "The world needs more heroes." Then there's a cut scene, showing a montage of heroes from Black Panther, Spider-Man, Captain Marvlel, and Dr. Strange getting ready for battle.

If she's in a few scenes a Maj. Carol Danvers, as there's some military consultation or reaction to all the hell breaking loose, that could be fairly seamless. I can't see full-blown Captain Marvel anywhere in the mix.

This could work.

Don't forget Ant-Man, who is the next hero with a movie coming up.

And if they do feature all these heroes, then I think Spider-Man should be the very last one featured, as the culmination of the end credit.

But that would have to be a slightly longer scene than we've had so far, otherwise it's only a few seconds for each.

I still have my doubts about Carol being in the post credits for Age of Ultron.

I mean, we've been hearing that rumor from various sources since filming, so this isn't really anything new. I believe it was Faraci who started backpedaling from it and saying Carol WAS in the script but they were having second thoughts about making her introduction to the MCU such a small cameo, so she might have been removed. Either way, I have my doubts as well, and if she does cameo, I'd think it would have to be pre-powers.

It does somewhat explain Rhodey being in the film as well.

Sounds good. With SHIELD no longer a major presence, presumably the military would have an increased role in superhero shenanigans. And why couldn't Carol be the one co-ordinating defences or even participating in aerial dogfights with some Ultron drones.

I don't believe for a second they cast an actress yet. At best I can believe Carol's AOU cameo will be a stunt woman fully covered up in flight gear flying a jet (with the Ms. Marvel lighting bolt on it) alongside other Air Force during the Ultron **** storm. I can see Marvel doing that but I can't see them committing to an actress this early.

Yeah, it's far more likely to be a character cameo than an actress one, imo.

G'day,

Why not? These are the forthcoming films until her own movie:

Ant-Man (2015)
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Doctor Strange (2016)
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017)
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 (2018)
Black Panther (2018)

She can appear in some capacity in any but especially Civil War and GOTG . I would introduce her now as Air Force pilot Carol Danvers then have a minor subplot in GOTG to give here powers.

How many times does Gunn have to rule out Carol in GOTG2?

Why would they take time out of SOMEONE ELSE'S movie to give Carol super powers when they can just do it in her own movie?

Did it not occur to anyone that maybe that is one of the main purposes of the Captain Marvel movie? To establish her character fully, including her superhero origin and her ties to the Kree? Use her own movie to get that stuff established properly and not shoehorn a rushed truncated version of it in someone else's movie?

Does that not make sense?
