Yeah I agree. I'm 100% against the faux-hawk helmet, but the one that's more like a facemask and leaves her hair free could work, imo. Like so:

It could just be primarily used in flight to keep stuff out of her eyes.

I'd also be fine with them not including it at all, too, but I'm just saying I think it could work and actually look cool if done right. I always thought it looked cool in Dexter Soy's art:

I like this better than the Mohawk helmet, especially since it evokes the look of Mar-Vell.

And it can always be adapted to actually be breathing equipment by giving it a super science high tech ability like the mask covering her lower half of the face with IM styled "folding" metal material that disappears. She can use it for high altitude flying or space. Just say she's tough enough to survive vacuum but still needs oxygen.

I think given the track record of Marvel ya'll should be prepared such changes. It's been 8 years or more. Nothing is always going to perfectly line up with the way things are in comics. She may not have the comic book styled "breathing in space" ability.

If it's inherited from or modeled after Mar-Vell's suit, they could say the mouth portion is covered by an advanced alien tech clear energy field a la the Kryptonian Earth suits in MoS which allows her to breathe but also doesn't muffle sound so she can still talk to people like normal. Or something. I still think the mask could serve a practical purpose - not just the "breathing in space thing," but we're talking about a character who can fly at 6 times the speed of sound through Earth's atmosphere. You would think she'd want goggles or something to keep debris/bugs out of her eyes when she does so, lol. So having a mask would make sense in that context.

As for how it forms around her face. I'd be totally cool with them doing it exactly like they do Star-Lord's, but I also kind of enjoyed how Soy would have it form in floaty little pieces, haha:

Yeah if she gets access to a cache of Kree tech that would make sense.

The only thing Captain Marvel should have on her head is A Marvel Studios hat, because it's a cute look. No mask is needed. Her body emits gravitons, which also have the power in naturally repelling bugs and birds. Thor doesn't need some sort of mask, so why should Carol? The more you try to rationalize stuff, the less magical it seems. Less magical means more boring. Explain some things rationally, but leave the rest a complete mystery. How can Carol fly and breathe in space? Who cares? She has alien superpowers. That's all you really need to know.

She's not a magical character, she's a sci-fi one, who gained her powers from an advanced alien device. Part of the fun of sci-fi is explaining cool tech, which could include her suit/mask if the filmmakers were so inclined. *shrug* As I said, mask or no mask, it makes no difference to me. I'm happy either way, and certainly won't be disappointed if they don't include the face mask. I'm just saying unlike most here, I don't see it as some sort of plague on the character, or something that could not possibly work in live-action.

Not to mention, secret identities are starting to creep into the MCU. DD, Spidey... Who knows which next character will decide that it's best if they keep their real name under wraps? It would be interesting if the fall out from the CW film was super powered folks going "You know what... I'd rather not be dragged into something like that. Maybe I'll add a mask or something to keep my ID safe."

Ha, that would be kind of interesting if it went in the reverse direction from the comics, where secret ID's became the norm AFTER the CW event, since they were never really a thing in the MCU to start with.

I don't mean magic in the literal sense, but just having her abilities just seem magical in a sense. Iron Man flying around doesn't seem magical at all. But, Vision does, because you're not being constantly reminded on how he's flying. Basically, I want Carol to be like a Superman-like character. Superman doesn't need a jetpack to fly and he doesn't need a helmet. Besides, there is way too much tech in the MCU. I mean, it's pretty bad. I was worried that they might make the Eye of Agamoto in Doctor Strange a piece of Stark Tech.

Carol is a sci-fi character, but why must we assume it has to do with tech and not biology? In Carol's 30-40 year history, she never utilized any tech until KSD decided to give her a helmet. I think it's an ugly look and is completely unnecessary.

I mean, they've already gotta explain the suit one way or another. The mask would just be part of that. But to each their own. As I've said, I'm not even advocating that the mask SHOULD be there, I'm just pointing out how it COULD be if they chose to go that route.

All the hate against the helmet is almost making me want to root for it to be included now. :o As long as it's the Dexter Soy's one, of course.

And speaking of random superfluous details, I really hope they have Carol wear the McKelvie's sash instead of that... new thing Anka gave her after he took over. Why does it even have pouches. Damn you, Rob Liefeld.

Do we think Mikey is sorta stoked about this movie or what? Truth be told, I am too.

And a plague upon you Flick for not engaging in helmet bashing. :oldrazz:

I'm with ya Mike!

Kree warrior suit, longer hair, and no helmet. A mask?? Maybe if it's the little tiny one. As Mike said, we don't want to cover up the cuteness.

Cuteness is important, but it's also about staying connected with the character. You lose that when you cover her face. Look at Brie's shock and awe face. She's obviously terrified. You lose that emotion when you cover her face. There are certain characters that just have to have a mask, like Spider-Man, but Carol isn't one of those characters. You don't necessarily have to bash the helmet anymore than you have to bash Iron Man's faceplate. There's a reason why they always show his face behind the mask.

I agree. I was just pulling your leg because one of them is a little bit shorter. :woot:

I would be okay with the little mask that just goes around the eyes I guess, but don't think it's really necessary.

Oh, ok that's cool. That could actually make sense.

Posted in the director thread too but...

I didn't even know the US had a Labor Day holiday, in hindsight it should've been pretty obvious. :hehe: So I guess this means no news until September, then?

Yeah about a month from now at the earliest

Well I suppose that makes sense. Feige had originally said they were gonna find a director and THEN the actress, but I guess with the Infinity War start date approaching, they just had to bite the bullet and go ahead and cast her. So now that they have their actress, there's really not such a rush for finding the director. The solo film won't even start shooting until late next year at the earliest, after all.

Yeah. I figure (and figured) this casting was because of IW and Carol will make an appearance in both. Of course Feige said her first appearance would be in her standalone unless its not (or something weird like that....).

If she's not going to be in Infinity war what's the point of casting her right now?

Ensuring that she doesn't go to the competition? Skull Island is a WB production, after all. :o

I think it's pretty obvious that Feige is just messing with us and that Carol will be making her first appearance in the MCU way before her solo movie, and maybe even before Infinity War, in an end credits scene or something.

There isn't one.

That's the only question in my mind. Will she show up before IW1?

Lock her down? So many times in the past, casting decisions fall through bc of scheduling conflicts.. Cast her now and she's pretty much set for when she is required to film as opposed to waiting too late and she could be booked with something else
