Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 3

I have a feeling that after Infinity War Pt1, Nick Fury will be doing his part to aid the Avengers in finding more allies to help them against Thanos. Leaving no stone unturned, he keeps searching until he finds Carol Danvers.

She will be...
1/ In hiding, freaked out by her powers.
2/ Held in some lab somewhere, being experimented on.
or...
3/ Just drops out of the sky, almost killing him.

There could be other problems too, like she forgot who she is or what happened to her. As she remembers, we get treated to some flashbacks. Hostile forces could be after her.

I'm gonna assume Fury has the same amount of screen time he did in Iron Man 2

Also, I guess that confirms he survives Infinity War? Assuming that CM takes place after Avengers 4

Before A4. CM is released early March 2019, 2 months before A4.

I hope Fury remains as a permanent background character in the MCU doing thing like that, pulling strings and making use of his resources behind the scenes.

He's done a lot of work with Brie Larson. I'm not surprised he's got a big role in Captain Marvel.

I actually would welcome a full on adversarial relationship between Carol and Fury. For the most part the heroes in the MCU, not without good reason, have had a deferential give and take with Fury. Stark came closest to just palintelling him off but even then I think he had a healthy respect for the man. What if Carol is having none of Fury's manipulations or counsel from the giddy-up? It would help to showcase her hard charging character, differentiates her from the pack and proves to the audience that yes, this is someone that can go toe to toe with the likes of Steve, Tony and Thor.

Yeah, I'd like to see them butting heads from the get-go.

Though I kind of have to wonder if Fury's been MIA lately because we're going to learn he's been busy establishing some sort of SWORD-esque operation to prepare for the oncoming intergalactic threat(s) and Carol's one of his main lieutenants there. I could see them doing that as a kind of nod to the days when she was Head of Security for NASA back when Marvel's version of NASA was basically SWORD before SWORD.

Saw this comment on Reddit suggesting that Fury's revealed to be the new head of S.W.O.R.D which is introduced in Captain Marvel, that would be cool.

Glad to see him confirmed and is it a throwaway comment from a random or something more reliable than that? As I'd love for it to happen!

A throwaway random comment unfortunately lol.

Ok. Least it's a good discussion topic. I think SLJ's Fury will have a very long future with the MCU as he never has huge parts, even in the films where he's more prominent. He can steadily feature without expending too much energy or time while picking up regular pay packets and staying relevant, and as a genuine fan he loves being and staying involved in stuff like this.

So are we closer to naming the rest of the cast?

Another thing to consider since they're messing with her origin story, is she even going to be a airforce pilot? With Nick Fury entering the picture, she could end up being a SHIELD agent.

Her being stationed on the helicarrier as a pilot under the command of Fury would work for me.

The prospect kind of reminds me of Quasars early SHIELD days.

I honestly dont see why she cant be both. Fury recruiting her as a pilot for SHIELD bc of her fast ranking and experience within the Airforce makes more sense than her simply being a random SHIELD agent with piloting duties. Incorporating her Airforce backstory makes her special and adds weight to why he may take an interest in her bc of the reputation she's built as one of the best pilots out there

A nice twist would be that it was her plane Fury stopped from launching from the helicarrier in the First Avengers movie.

That is a really good idea. A nice retcon that would add something to the relationship they want to develop between the characters.
