so, I don't know much about the character, other than I'm looking forward to her movie and her inclusion in Marvel vs Capcom.

what are considered her "essential" stories to read? or what are some good places to start with?

I personally enjoy Kelly Sue DeConnick's run the most. This volume is a great entry point for the character, imo:

Her previous run, starting with this one is also good:

I prefer her Captain Marvel incarnation over the previous ones (and the way KSD writes her in general), but if you want to go back to her Ms. Marvel days, Brian Reed's run is probably a decent start:

Yeah, just read both the DeConnick's runs, especially the second. They are an almost perfect concentrate of everything that makes the character of Carol Danvers and superheroes comics in general great. I know this sounds like ridiculously high praise but it's how I feel.

There's some decent stuff in Reed's run too if you can put up with some pretty lame storylines (the Civil War tie-ins... Moonstone... UGH) and the sometimes sleazy art.

She doesn't look like Brie Larson to me.
I dunno, there's something about her nose and mouth that reminds me of Larson's. But as I said, I don't think it's intentional.

The swirly energy effects there would look so cool on the big screen. I think her powers could be visually stunning if done right.

They keep pushing back that director announcement, huh?

At least they're in no rush

Next we'll be hearing they'll be talking to directors in 2018.

This no director stuff has been driving me crazy, but, in truth, there really is no rush. I'd sure like to get some script teasers though.......

They should have a director by March at the latest, that's the "2 years to release" point.

Yeah. That doesn't seem like an unreasonably short period of time (though I've never really thought about it before). Did anyone read this dip$#!t$ comment?

Now this, I find quite laughable. This film has been in development for the better part of 2+ years, & it still can't find a director.
And that's not the only thing this character does NOT have. Try, no distinguishable backstory, or even a villain worth mentioning.... Or is she gonna fight the Avengers as well, right before she joins them?
This poor-man's WW is a joke. Even in the comics, her books flop. But Marvel's need to create their own WW, makes them keep trying to push her. Good luck with that.

Too bad Marvel doesn't have their $#!t together and can't figure out how to make a movie like WB can. :o

What an @$$wipe. We should sic Mikey on him (prolly a him anyway....).

Kevin Feige "We'll announce who's playing Captain Marvel and the director this summer"

"We have Brie, but the director won't be until the end of the year"

Now: "We'll have a director in place certainly before we start shooting" :funny:

I know. Right? Feige drives me crazy sometimes with the $#!t that comes out of his mouth. I mean, I don't hate him (how could I?), but he says stuff like CM is going to be as powerful as anyone and in the next sentence says she's way more powerful than anyone. Then he says something like "CM won't be in a movie before her standalone unless she is". Kevin, we love you, but give us a break.

Yep! More lies from Marvel Studios. The Captain Marvel movie will never get made. Why does Feige hate his fans? :o

Kevin Feige also promised us we would be getting an Inhumans movie recently lol. Captain Marvel is safe. The film will happen now that Mr Perlmutter is thankfully out of the picture.

The only worry is if it gets pushed back again to make room for Doctor Strange 2 or something.

Hopefully she is a crucial part of IW2 so that there is no option to move her back.

This is why I don't like when studios announce their movies so many years in advance.

Did we really need to know about this film's existence three years before the actual start of pre-production? No, no we didn't. We were so much happier in our blissful ignorance.

I don't think it's accurate to say we were happier. The comments of "why don't we have a female-led Marvel movie" were non-stop. Reassuring people that there are plans for this movie is a good thing.

Well, that's a good point. Doesn't make the five years wait any easier, though. :hehe:

Why doesn't Feige just tell us the truth? The CM movie will focus on Mar-Vell(Feige). Carol Danvers will play the damsel in distress who faints every time Mar-Vell rescues her. :o

I wonder if Feige has autism. :o

Meanwhile WB will have a Wonder Woman movie coming out in 2017 and is planning on a Gotham City Sirens movie featuring Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman in 2018.
Even if a Captain Marvel movie does get made it won't come out until 2019.

Well then Marvel and Capt Marvel will just have to settle for the title of first GOOD Female superhero film
:o:oldrazz:

^ LOL

Seriously though, Marvel just needs to keep doing what they're doing.

Their female superhero presence has been steadily increasing. Should it have been bigger from the get-go? Yes. But there's no fixing the past.

What they definitely should not do is change their plans in order to beat DC to the punch. I want quality work, and that type of decision making is not conducive to making good movies.
