If the rumor about the subatomic area has any truth, perhaps Ant-Man frees her without knowing in his movie. We know Janet will be in Ant-Man/Wasp so he has to go into the subatomic.

or

The battle in IWs some how wakes her.

I wonder if we'll see a young Peggy too...

And yeah I can totally imagine the events in IW (or really any of the upcoming ones) causing something to free her and that being the last scene (cliffhanger) - Carol in her CM costume glory. I'm getting chills imagining it! :D

I've been theorizing this for a while now. The last reveal is Carol and maybe a whole new set of heroes who've come to the aid of the original Avengers team.

Well I gotta say, the more they reveal about this film, the more and more interesting it becomes. The 1990s? Skrulls? Fury with both eyes?

Damn!

If the film is set in space, its gonna be interesting to see how Fury fits in. Maybe he's associated with SWORD?

The best thing about that is that Jackson's really not changed enough to merit any CGI.

It's funny, I have head-canon idea where towards the end of her career Peggy takes the role of Director of SHIELD and, before retiring, is the one that recommends Fury as the next director. Would love if that happened. Plus I'm betting we'll see how he loses that eye and what exactly he meant by "last time I trusted someone I lost an eye"

I also had the thought of the infinity stone causing some sort of shenanigans.

Still, I was really hoping that the F4 would return and the skrulls would be their enemy. Somewhat ruins that now.

Not sure how I feel about this taking place in the 90's. Seems a little weird to me but we'll see.

So why is this movie taking place in the 90's? Seems kind of random. I will also be disappointed if this means I don't get to see Carol interacting with the Avengers in Infinity War part 2.

My oh my, imagine all the possibilities with the shape shifting Skrulls!!

What if someone we all seemingly know too well was a Skrull all along? What if Fury himself was a Skrull all the time, with some hidden agenda. Or imagine one of our heroes dying at the end of Infinity war and then suddenly his dead body turning green, revealing him/her to be a Skrull actually!

And what if Avengers 4 is actually called "Avengers: Secret Invasion"??

I think likely to explain her getting her powers but without seeming like she masters them in no time flat. Could also help explain why Fury was intent on setting up the Avengers Initiative.

I'm curious as to how this would tie in with GotG. The Kree being such an important part of the first film.

In the 90s..? That's interesting. Although if it is mostly set in space than that's just the time-frame where her story begins. Real excited about this. Man, I wish they were already filming so I could see more than concept art!

So now that it's set in the 90's before the fall of SHIELD, this means we can get Carol as a SHIELD agent.

Yesssss, loving that art! I am a happy fan right now.

Now I wonder what the deal is with Carol's age. Did her powers make her stop aging, or does she get trapped in suspended animation somewhere for 20+ years?

EDIT: I'm pretty sure those are just Skrulls with helmets, Mike.

Hopefully in suspended animation. How she's discovered if that's the case becomes a mystery.

And now the mystery will be "where has she been the whole time?" and that;s going to be a good mystery to figure out.

I wonder if they're setting the Skrulls up as the main antagonists for Marvel's next arc.

"Young" being a relative term. She was an adult in the 40s...

If we're getting Skrulls I'm really hoping for Jessica Drew. I can't help it guys.

So this means no Monica Rambeau? The film being set in the 90's could be a way to introduce her somewhat.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure those are just Skrulls with helmets, Mike.

See, their poses remind me a lot of Skrulls, but their armor looks like Kree armor painted black. Earth's Mightiest Heroes, another recent example, original Captain Marvel outfit. They also look blue, but that could be the lighting. The only thing that makes me have doubts (besides the announcement) is that their chins are covered.

But compare that to the other picture (the one with Carol in the center with glowing hands) where they are very clearly Skrulls with either skullcaps or exposed heads, and a very different armor. I think the concept art is for both. That doesn't mean both are in the movie, of course.

ETA: I've attached the two images for comparison.

Or she gets trapped in a place where time moves much slower. Now, when she returns at least 20 years has gone by. Not as extreme to what happened for Steve Rogers but it will still suck all the same.

She will be back in the real time for A4, she is one of Thanos biggest threats. Not sure why you think she wouldn't interact.

My guess Thanos was around at the time as well and did something to imprison her. The battle of IWs wakes her and breaks her out.

Possible maybe the first step to getting F4 rights back.
