Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 5

This makes me wonder if the next Spidey film might be set BEFORE Infinity War because putting IW two years after Civil War also puts it around two years after Homecoming (although there is a 3 month time jump in that movie).
I think it can be after if they want Spider-Man to be in HS for 3 movies. He was 15 in HC, 17 by IWs, A4 possibly the same year as IWs, HC2 few weeks after A4.
Would be nice to have seen how he got out of the Aunt May WTF scene.

Think she will go maskless in the movies. All the helmets and mask in the MCU are tech now and Danvers really does not need one. The eye cover would be kind of silly movie wise. Cap had non tech helmets but he is old fashioned. I do hope they give the Ms.MArvel look in the sequel.

None of the concept art ever suggested she would wear something face covering for most of her screentime.

Marvel actors love showing their faces.

*cough* RDJ *cough* :o

I know but for future costumes. No character keeps the same uniform for multiple movies. She will probably have a newer look in A4.

The mask is so limiting. It's really better when a character doesn't have to deal with that.

Captain Marvel shouldn't have to, so I'm guessing that we won't see anything like that once she has her powers.

I don't think a mask is limiting or obscuring if it is a domino mask. Especially one which doesn't cover too much of her face but is widely spaced out like that pic above where she's wearing her Warbird uniform.

If the mask is not for the purposes of disguise but simply part of the look, then she won't need to cover as much of her face. They also won't have to worry about explaining how no-one recognises her. It's simply there for either aesthetic or tech purposes.

That would be sad for the cat. But I don't think she has a cat in the film.

Probably not, but surely there’s someone she would miss or would miss her.

Still, I’ve noticed they’ve cast a lot of young actors so she might meet up with them again in the far off future of 2018

Chewie, Danvers' cat from modern comics.

Apparently it's important to some the kitty makes an appearance.

Yes all kitties all the time. People love cats.

I for one was very dissapointed black panther did not actually involve a black panther

Chewie turns out to be
An alien cat
in the comics though.

The MCU generally doesn't do a lot with secret identities.

The story logic suggests to me that [BLACKOUT]Carol won't have one, on earth she's not a superhero, in space she is, but why would she need to hide her identity?[/BLACKOUT]

They might do a reference to some of the other looks, I guess, but the one they are going with fits the inter-galactic hero idea the best, imho.

I am wondering what if any official reaction to Carol we will get to see.

I don't think it's unreasonable to assume Carol was not known to the public. But how the authorities reacted is another story, and I am speculating that is how Fury will factor into things in some way.

It's not out of the realm of possibility that she had some big public battle but given what has been shown in the movies and shows it seems there is no indication of some kind of large, well known super human activity between when Cap disappeared to when Tony premiered as Iron Man on the world stage.

So there had to be a cover up of some kind. What I hope is we get to see the tension inherent (and perhaps some commentary) in an active duty member of the U.S. military suddenly having possession of such awesome power. There are some questions I think would come up. This isn't like with Captain America where Steve volunteered to be experimented on. I think there would be issues on just how much authority the military and government would have on her. This goes well beyond the normal power an air force pilot has in any given situation or even extreme ones. Think of bomber pilots that might deliver nuclear payloads. In this case Carol is a nuclear payload in human form.

I hope they at least touch on these issues, not least because it is logical in my opinion but the conflicts would make for good dramatics too.

Annette Bening is signing on for her first comic book movie.

The four-time Oscar nominee is joining Brie Larson in Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios’ first female-led feature film.

Details on Bening’s character are being kept hidden deep in the Kree Empire but scientist is said to be in her job description.

Edit-
True news: Annette Bening joining CAPT MARVEL; being told she would be playing Danvers' mother

I think it's either a massive government cover up or whatever battle happened in an isolated place or with no survivors (kinda like in WW). I'm leaning towards the former.

Unless someone is carrying around a MIB memory wipeout thingie... :funny:

Token veteran A-lister slot filled! :awesome:

Kroll says she's playing Carol's mom

Speaking of battles, they're building the set for a battle scene on the shores of Shaver Lake. Is Shaver Lake an isolated place, I have no idea.

Nice. So is she playing a scientist or is she playing Carol's mom? Marie Danvers wasn't a scientist. Also it's kind of weird that they would get unknown actors to play Carol's dad and brothers but hire an Oscar nominee actress for the mom.

Could be as written in this version the mom is the meatier part.

But if she had a job then why didn't she pay for her daughter's college? What an ass. :o

True and that's what's weird. It seems like they're expanding the role of the parent that I thought they were going to mostly ignore.

My guess: Since they directly name-checked Terminator 2 as inspiration, we're at least getting some sort of awesome chase sequence on Earth. However, I expect most of other big action to happen in space, so a basic government cover-up on whatever pieces transpire on Earth seems like a good bet to me.

Regarding your second questions, I hadn't put much thought in it, but now I wonder if Carol wasn't....emphatically persuaded to stay away from Earth for the reasons you mentioned. Which would also partially explain why [blackout]Fury didn't contact her to come back[/blackout] 'til now. Maybe the clandestine government entities of Earth straight-up kicked her out when she refused to play ball or something, and she didn't want to force her presence somewhere she wasn't wanted (plus she just learned of a whole universe of other civilizations out there to explore, so, why not).

On the other topic, I have no problem with expanding the mother's role. If she's the alcoholic parent, I just hope it doesn't resemble I, Tonya too much with McKenna Grace likely playing Young Carol, lol.

Annette Bening in an Mcu movie?! Holy heck! Never thought I'd see this.
