This is a character that if any of the general audience knows about it likely knows about the original guy version before the change lol

Carol eclipsed him in popularity a loooong time ago. Granted, she's probably still best known as Ms. Marvel (not for much longer), but there's a reason he's basically been dead in the comics since the early 80's while she went on to headline several of her own titles and play significant parts in most of the big crossover events (from Operation: Galactic Storm onwards). The only people who will be more familiar with Mar-Vell are the older readers who haven't paid attention to Marvel comics (or other media, as legendkillin pointed out) over the last 25 years.

Yeah I was just talking about the geek community. Obviously both characters are rather unknown to general audiences. Which is why by the end of March 2019, Carol Danvers will be best known to the world as Captain Marvel. This is basically her (and the title's) public debut, for all intents and purposes.

Yeah OG Cap is pretty much exclusively marketed as Shazam now, and the director pretty much confirmed that outside a few possible jokes, that'll be the case for the movie too.

The exchange is with EW which has revealed dozens on coverages and first looks for upcoming MCU films so it's definitely photos and details about the film. I have no idea why you expect a trailer. EW runs pieces onfuture MCU films.

Thought brand was fairly young in the comics? No expert though on actress or character.

Age is hard to tell in comics sometimes. I mean Cyclops and captain America are meant to be, what 28 years old or something? But they look like they’re drawn in their 40s sometimes

Oh my gosh I can’t wait! I reckon it’s too early for a trailer but it’s time for a first look! We can see her in her outfit, quick shot of captain Minerva to tie into the crazy rich asians hype, maybe a set pic or too. Oh an inevitably nick fury will be there. I’m very excited!!

Photos and a cover aren't going to break the internet as she put it. If that's truly what they're teasing then boo on them. I'm expecting a trailer for sure.

The Brie Larson Archives got their hands on the new issue of Total Film, and in it Kevin Feige reveals that Captain Marvel will avoid one of the problems the Green Lantern movie had:

“Much of the movie takes place in outer space.”

And Feige mentioned 90s action movies as a big inspiration for the movie:

“There are definitely homages to our favorite ’90s action films. Those cool street-level fights and car chases.”

For some reason I thought it was going to be mostly set on earth with the skrulls trying to infiltrate us. Also feige has said its set in outer space AND there’s street level fights and car chases? How does that work? Maybe Carol is doing a bit of traffic cop work on Hala?

Sure it can be set both on earth and outerspace.
