The Last Jedi Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa (VIII)

This is so sad. What a way to end this terrible year.

I feel so bad for Billie Lourd. 24 is a terrible age to lose your mother. Not that it's ever easy, but that's so young.

Yeah, it's such a tragedy. On top of everything, it hit me because Carrie was the same age as my own mother. The thought of possibly losing my own mother now so early is very jarring and unimaginable. I feel so much for Billie. Losing a parent so early and unexpectedly is devastating.

RIP Carrie Fisher. :-(

I've been shocked since the news last week.

My condolences to the family most of all.

RIP Carrie, this is absolutely awful and 2016 continues to be the worst.

I really wonder what they're going to do with her in IX? I'm guessing we'll get a CGI Leia ala Tarkin? I always imagined getting a big emotional moment between Leia and Kylo at some point.

Since we don't know the outcome of her role in 8, it's hard to say. I'm hoping that it's situation where she steps down from leading the Resistance in 8, then they can figure out what to do with her in 9. It's tough to not include her with Kylo there, but they'll figure something out somehow.

I can't see anyone being ok with that. At least not in the sense that you have another actor standing in on set and acting out scenes with people who knew and loved her.

RIP to my favorite Princess. So sad I never got to meet her.

As far as EP IX goes...can't they have her daughter stand in for her? apply makeup and cgi to age her? She looks a lot like Carrie and I can't imagine anyone better to take up her role than her own daughter.

1. She already had parts in Star Wars.
2. She doesn't exactly look like a 60 year old Carrie. You might as well CGI her due to how much work it would take.

with makeup/prosthetics and some CGI it really wouldn't. And I know she has a role in it but she wouldn't look like said role. I wouldn't be opposed to 100% CGI but I think if you can have a stand in it would see more natural.

I don't want her death to be like Heath Ledger's. Like how Joker went unmentioned in TDKR like out of some kind of respect. I'm not speaking for Carrie or her family, but I don't think they want Leia to disappear from the saga. Yes, I know it's soon. I just want Leia to go out great. If not, I guess VIII was Leia's end? I don't think writing her off in Episode IX is the way to go. Episode VIII is done with filming I can't imagine there was more for her to do with this film.

What a crappy day. I got really bummed out about Carrie's passing :csad:

Whatever happens with Episode 8 and beyond, I just hope they give Leia a proper send off

I can't see them not trying to use that tech though, even if it's just for one scene.

The key difference between Peter Cushing and Carrie is that Cushing has been dead for 20 years and Carrie has only just passed. It was controversial enough to use Peter, with Carrie it's too soon and potentially uncomfortable for the people involved who knew her so well.

RIP Princess I watch the OT over the holiday weekend after I heard of her being in critical condition :csad:

as far as EP9 I hope they don't use CGI write her exit gracefully

Man, when this comes out I bet there won't be a dry eye

If we are talking about episode 9 well that won't be until 2019 or 2020 right? there is enough time to let things settle and it was done for the fast and the furious in a pretty respectful way,

We will have to see what happens in Episode 8 but i can only imagine her role for this trilogy was meant to be pretty important and since kylo is the son of leia and han i am guessing they had it planned for her to be in episode 9 but now without han solo there to play father and now with the passing of carrie its tough to see how they will pull it off in the way they may have originally planned too.

Can only hope they really got as much out of her in Episode 8 as possible and that they didn't hold all that much back for episode 9.

I imagine disney and lucasfilms are in a pretty tough situation right now with what to do.

Gary will be going to Billie. Poor dog is going to be so sad.

Please for the love of all things sacred, no "CGI Leia." I didn't even care for it in RO, but that at least was a tiny cameo by a different actress who was made to look up like 1977 Carrie. And she was still alive at the time. I didn't like CGI Tarkin either, but at least Peter Cushing had been dead for over 20 years, not a few. And Tarkin was only a major factor in ONE film.

This, we'd have seen her in-person for two movies, which in turn built off of three movies that we also saw her in-person. So to do this at the last minute, no just no. Also LF has also hinted that they're not recasting.

So the best option, and there really are no good options here, is to just write her out of Episode IX. Give her character as dignified and respectful and exit as possible under the circumstances. It sucks, but their hand is being (no pun intended) forced here.
