I feel so bad for Billie Lourd. 24 is a terrible age to lose your mother. Not that it's ever easy, but that's so young.
RIP Carrie, this is absolutely awful and 2016 continues to be the worst.
I really wonder what they're going to do with her in IX? I'm guessing we'll get a CGI Leia ala Tarkin? I always imagined getting a big emotional moment between Leia and Kylo at some point.

RIP to my favorite Princess. So sad I never got to meet her.
As far as EP IX goes...can't they have her daughter stand in for her? apply makeup and cgi to age her? She looks a lot like Carrie and I can't imagine anyone better to take up her role than her own daughter.
Not surprising considering she only showed up halfway through TFA.Well Leia has a much larger role in Episode VIII

1. She already had parts in Star Wars.
2. She doesn't exactly look like a 60 year old Carrie. You might as well CGI her due to how much work it would take.
I can't see anyone being ok with that. At least not in the sense that you have another actor standing in on set and acting out scenes with people who knew and loved her.
I can't see them not trying to use that tech though, even if it's just for one scene.
The key difference between Peter Cushing and Carrie is that Cushing has been dead for 20 years and Carrie has only just passed. It was controversial enough to use Peter, with Carrie it's too soon and potentially uncomfortable for the people involved who knew her so well.
