So, can we already celebrate the announcement of the sequel?

I wouldn't get my hopes up since WB rarely makes announcements, but it would be nice to ride the momentum and be surprised for once! A lot of peeps seem to think something is up....
You know, I really love the Cavill/Snyder duo for some reason. Probably because I get a kick out of seeing one of the main creative forces guiding the new Superman franchise alongside the face of it:

I doubt we would get a sequel announcement. But it would be great if Snyder said something like we'll begin filming sometime next year.
They need to announce the sequel. That's what is expected. Anything less would imply to many that WB is not confident in a MOS sequel (regardless of what the reality is.)
Remember, they just announced this. These two guys are not just going to go to celebrate the 75th anniversary or promote the blur ray.
Anything less than an announcement of MOS2 will look bad. They know this.
I just want an indication that there will be another movie, that this isn't Superman Returns take 2.

I guess it's pretty safe to say MOS is in a different situation when compared to SR.
Was SR viewed as a flop at the time? Because it made more than Batman Begins (disregarding the budget of each film).
I remember Singer infamously saying at a convention after SR's release that he intended to go all 'Wrath of Khan' on the sequel. Plus Routh saying that he'd been talking to Singer, saying he expected to be filming at the beginning of '08. And one of the writers saying that there would be 'two villains'.
We all know how that went.
If I remember correctly, it was accepted that SR had underperformed. The blame was put on releases so close to Pirates 2, bad marketing in general (though what did they have to market with), the lack of action and being tainted by the last couple of movies etc. People had hopes the sequel would be better. Then time went on, radio silence from WB, they missed their initial speculated start date for filming etc.
