Cavill and Snyder appearing at comic con!

So, can we already celebrate the announcement of the sequel? :)

I wouldn't get my hopes up since WB rarely makes announcements, but it would be nice to ride the momentum and be surprised for once! A lot of peeps seem to think something is up....

They should do it. There's so much expectation...

You know, I really love the Cavill/Snyder duo for some reason. Probably because I get a kick out of seeing one of the main creative forces guiding the new Superman franchise alongside the face of it:

They seem like they are close and genuinely like each other.

There was a great shot at last year's comic con of them standing and watching the crowd.

That's why I'm not holding my breath :yay: It's WB, after all. But yeah, a sequel announcement would be awesome.

I doubt we would get a sequel announcement. But it would be great if Snyder said something like we'll begin filming sometime next year.

Wouldn't that class as an announcement?

I'm talking about Snyder casually saying he expects filming to begin next year. To me, an announcement would be WB announcing a July 17th, 2015 release date. Snyder saying filming starts May 1st.

They need to announce the sequel. That's what is expected. Anything less would imply to many that WB is not confident in a MOS sequel (regardless of what the reality is.)
Remember, they just announced this. These two guys are not just going to go to celebrate the 75th anniversary or promote the blur ray.
Anything less than an announcement of MOS2 will look bad. They know this.

That's how I feel about it too, Sabaoth.
It would be a disappointment.

So does this mean we're not going to see any DCCU announcement at SDCC? :(

I just want an indication that there will be another movie, that this isn't Superman Returns take 2.

Was SR viewed as a flop at the time? Because it made more than Batman Begins (disregarding the budget of each film).

I wish I could be here. Looks great as always when Cavill is here.

Great news!!

*crosses fingers for a sequel announcement*

If anyone gets to go to CC and talk to Zack, mention that the fans want an extended edition DVD :yay:

I would be satisfied if they just provided extensive inside info on MOS.
The odds of a sequel annoncement are slim IMO
Snyder may say they are going to talk about it soon, but that is not the same thing as far as I am concerned

I fully expect an announcement for MOS2 and , and maybe even some other DC properties.

JLA would be a given if they were to announce more movies, as we've already gotten reports of JLA and MOS2 actively being written by Goyer, but Flash and Wonder Woman seem possible too, IMO.

It would be disapointing for us if they don't announce a sequel at Comic Con but I don't see how that shows WBs don't have faith in it. We knew what they were like with MOS and the marketing holding back etc so if they don't announce it at Con I'm not gonna panic.

I remember Singer infamously saying at a convention after SR's release that he intended to go all 'Wrath of Khan' on the sequel. Plus Routh saying that he'd been talking to Singer, saying he expected to be filming at the beginning of '08. And one of the writers saying that there would be 'two villains'.

We all know how that went.

I won't believe it until it's made abundantly clear, not just 'we think this is what'll happen'.

That said, WB would be crazy not to do it.

I guess it's pretty safe to say MOS is in a different situation when compared to SR.

Yes indeedy. I think after SR we're all a little panicky, even after MoS's numbers and audience approval.

Well... You can't really do that.

If I remember correctly, it was accepted that SR had underperformed. The blame was put on releases so close to Pirates 2, bad marketing in general (though what did they have to market with), the lack of action and being tainted by the last couple of movies etc. People had hopes the sequel would be better. Then time went on, radio silence from WB, they missed their initial speculated start date for filming etc.

Worldwide, the public was more interested in Superman Returns than Batman Begins. Look at the box office....

Superman Returns
$200,081,192 domestic
$391,081,192 worldwide
In Release: 128 days / 18.3 weeks

Batman Begins
$206,852,432 domestic
$374,218,673 worldwide
In Release: 142 days / 20.3 weeks

When Singer said he'd go all 'Wrath of Khan' with the sequel, he was spot-on. I read the story of SR2 and it featured Brainiac being drawn to earth by the orbiting New Krypton, and a million Brainiac footsoldiers taking on Superman, culminating in Brainiac inhabiting Jason's body. Superman killed his son to save the Earth. Sounds like the most action-packed story ever written, and also the most emotional/dramatic.
